I'm also planning on more descriptions - possibly randomising within a selection that apply for the current time, and also possibly a slider which allows you to set the accuracy, so that it runs from accurate ("It's thirteen minutes past six") to wildly inaccurate ("It's Tuesday, I think.").

That's awesome. That's what most people want to know when they ask the time anyway. They don't need to know it's 2:36:51, Friday, January 14, 2011. They just want to know it's "about two-thirty". That's my problem with the various text clocks out there. They're so precise but you sound like a douche if you actually read that out loud.

Are you asking for an Android device with a built-in projector or a standalone projector that can connect to an Android device?

If the former, I've only seen prototypes so far, no shipping products yet, I believe.

If the latter, the standalone pico projectors generally seem to range from $200-300 dollars right now. As far as compatibility, it would really be a matter of whether the Android device has a video out option, typically HDMI right now. Some of the pico projectors have HDMI inputs so that should work.

they have continuously lied to us about the hardware, and software reliability of this phone, they promised us updates (to 2.2! Not the functionally dead JI6 2.1!) over and over, NOW they plan to release NEW galaxies without updating the old ones they currently have. The GPS is clearly a hardware defect. There are just too many issues with this phone and the Customer service reps have been combativeeven bullying and threatening customers!

Android Central reporting that the Atrix will release on March 1st.

That's very disappointing if true. They kept harping on "the coming weeks" at CES, even the latest Flash update mentioned the Atrix by name. Was really hoping that it would be out early February at the latest.

Also doesn't make sense why they would push their advertising now with the phone so far away. It would make sense if there was a release date attached to the commercials, but there isn't.

If this date is true.. I'm going to go ahead and buy a Captivate (or the new HTC phone if it's out) and return it within the 30 days to hopefully get an Atrix.

Ugh. 6 weeks isn't that long, but I honestly don't know if my
3GS will hold out that long. I guess we'll see.

With AT&T saying Q1 2011 this whole time, the March 1st date could just be an internal place holder. It's the 1st day of the last month of the quarter, so that would make sense. Many consumer electronic companies & retailers do things like this until the actual date is set in stone & released the public.

Not available for AT&T. I don't think any geek is picking the Atrix because it's an Android phone at this point, although it is a very nice Android phone.

They certainly have lost points amongst the users. Luckily the community is eager to make the fixes themselves. I saved my I9000 from my rage by installing voodoo-lagfix. Feels like a newly bought hardware now. I'm just hoping the nordic 2.2.1 firmware won't take ages. That seems to fix lot of minor details that annoy me.

Lesson learned though, never have high hopes on samsung software.

By what I'm hearing about Samsung and the uncertainty of updates to the Vibrant, I would go with the Slide.

If you are planning to root and do your own thing... then either phone sounds good, unless you prefer a physical keyboard.

They need to improve the media experience on android as fast as possible.
I don't even listen to music on my Droid anymore because the experience is actually that bad.

I played around with that new music app when it leaked, and it wasn't any better.
It was *maybe* a little more attractive, but it was just as awful to use. I feel the media experience is truly Android's weakest attribute. It's actively horrible to use.

While its very neat and handy, this music sync/stream thing isn't going help at all. I mean what's the use in streaming every song you have from your computer if the phone's software is so bad it forces you to stop using it.

I mean, every OS has it's weak spots that will bug you, if it wasn't this it would be something else.. but I think it really says something when Android's media playback is GODAWFUL that I'm considering spending 150$+ on an iPod nano just so I can listen to music on the go.

Using Winamp on my Nexus S the only problem I have is no gapless playback, compared to my old fat nano.

I don't really game much on my phone (Nexus One user here), so the lack of games doesn't bother me. The games I do have (Angry Birds, Robo Defense) are pretty good and work well. A bigger selection would be nice. For media it's fine, there are tons of different media player apps and I love how I can just drag and drop straight to and from the phone, in that aspect it's way better than anything else i've used.

For the basics: Communicating with people, looking up things on the internet, getting directions, camera... it's fantastic. Does everything I want it to. I also love being able to customize my interface.

Living in a city, the best thing about a smartphone is knowing what's around at me at any given time. Whether it's directions somewhere or someplace to eat or the nearest bank, a smartphone seems like a must nowadays.

For me, the default music player is unacceptable because it takes any and all audio files and throws them into your library. I use PowerAmp instead because it looks nicer, has a lot of features, and has folder support. It costs $4.99 on the market.

As for video, the default player is a bit lacking but there are other players available that play everything with subtitles and whatnot such as RockPlayer and arcMedia.

I don't really have an issue with the games as I have a Droid X. I can play all of EA and Gamelofts games. Of course more games would be nice, I'd like to have Tony Hawk 2, for instance, but I spend most of my time playing Pocket Legends (A F2P MMO).

The best part of android is that you aren't restricted. In other words if you don't like something you can change it, if something is missing you can add it.

Also, it does everything else you'd need a smartphone to do just fine.

There is a way to use the trackball to wake the phone. You'd need root at the very least. That can be found over on XDA.

Other than that, you can call HTC with your issue. If you're under warranty, they'll probably just send you a new phone. No need to send yours in until you get the replacement.

I wouldn't go with either one, I'd wait. And Samsung doesn't deserve any more sales. I picked up a Captivate last year for my wife with the obvious expectation (fed by Samsung) that the phone would get updated. My wife doesn't want to root or install any sort of custom rom. She shouldn't have to. This situation is shitty, It's unbelievable that AT&T hasn't had a single one of their phones updated to 2.2. It's an embarrassment to them, to the manufacturers, and to Google. And the fact that the Apple loving tech blogs haven't picked up on this in a big way is surprising. This is such an obvious weak spot, at a time when it seemed like Google was making real progress towards reducing/eliminating fragmentation, a top manufacturer doesn't update a bestselling Android phone series (Galaxy S) and the second largest carrier hasn't updated a single phone to Froyo, which was released last summer.

HTC are really good about replacing phones. If it's a hardware defect, they will likely help you out. Too bad their phone hardware is so unreliable. My refurb N1 now refuses to power on. grrrr

Search XDA. This is a know hardware issue with the phone.

These are the three mayor issues with the Nexus One:

Power Button
Crappy Touch Screen sensor
Phone heating up while charging.

If you are rooted I think there is a way to make the track ball your "turn on screen" button.

I hit the jackpot, I've had all of these issues now!!! What do I get?

Oh yeah, a call to HTC, a $500 hold on my card while they receive my busted refurb, and of course a hope and prayer that the next phone they send me will only have one of the three issues above (which you can't fix, the crappy screen sensor).

Call them and they'll try to work through your problems. After they give up, they'll refer you to their service/replacement line (888-716-3593 option 3) and you'll have two options. Send your phone out for repairs (they'll check the phone for trauma/custom roms, and as long as it doesn't have any of that stuff, your repair should be free), or you can have them put a hold on your card, send you a replacement phone, and sent you a label for you to ship your phone. The hold comes up once they receive the phone and do the checks above. Be aware though, that some refurbs come with SLCD screens instead of AMOLED screens. It's kinda luck of the draw on that one.

I use it for absolutely everything I want to use it for. Mostly, I just talk on it, browse the web, do a bit of emailing, Google Talk, take the occasional picture, and listen to podcasts. Oh, and it's my alarm clock. I also enjoy trying out different ROMs. Was there a memo distributed about the acceptable minimum level of use for smartphones? If so, I missed it.
