So if I want to buy a xoom, I am essentially forced to buy a month of 3g on verizon's network to get wifi?.

That kind of shit should be illegal. Tablets aren't cellphones, This pricing structure is rediculous. Hopefully not all Android tablets are gonna be like this, or else I'm going for an ipad.

I was about to register but checked flights to SFO and couldn't make it work.

Oh shit, sorry man. I thought you meant you actually registered before it sold out. Vic Gundotra just tweeted that it sold out already. Last year it took 50 days. This year, 59 minutes.

They need to stop hyping it up. It's a conference for developers, and I have no qualms saying that most of this year's registrants probably aren't.

Did they give out the Nexus One last year?

HTC Evo 4G.

Oh yes. And the Droid too.

That was GDC.

Well, the point is they give free stuff out >_<
I couldn't remember which was which.

Ugh, Droid X battery is at 20% right now and I've barely taken it out of my pocket today. Took it off the charger at 9:45am. LAME.

seems something wrong with one of your apps. I have a milestone which i did not used for two days and it is still at 70% (i have no SIM card inside, but it is turned on). I have MIUI running and it has some great battery life.

You should try another ROM or use setcpu.

Today's Sprint event is definitely about the Kyocera Echo.

Sprint's own website accidentally went live with the information.

Definitely a letdown.

Well I'm on Fission 2.5.7 and I generally get GREAT battery life. I've only had my X since October, but this seems to happen like once every month or so (extreme battery drain).

gcubed, have you noticed Subsonic draining battery? That's the only thing I've installed over the past week which could potentially be causing the drain.

NeoGAF seems universally down on the Echo.

I'm beginning to suspect that Sprint has got a massive hit on their hands. ; )

Seeing pictures of it, it looks like a neat concept. Looks like Froyo is installed, what a shame they didn't do 2.3 right off the start. Only thing I would change would be instead of the DS clamshell design, I would have it as a sliding out second screen, like the g2.

Echo is so laughable. First of all, it looks like a product from 2005. Look at that black plastic that is all over the phone. Such a bland design.

Price isn't bad though. $189 on contract.

Interestingly, the Echo doesn't really run the optimized apps simultaneously when you have two of them open -- it quickly switches them in and out of hibernation, even though they're both displayed on screen. That means you can't do things like watch a video while writing an email, for example -- it's an odd limitation, but it seems like it'll only be an issue in limited circumstances.

eh?

I have been on sprint my whole cellphone contract life.... What an effing failure of a device. Looks like a knockoff DS. SMH

Hopefully that explains the lack of 2.3 on the Nexus One.

I'm still guessing that they are trying to squash the crash/reboot bug in the nexus s before they move it over to the nexus one

EDIT:
is http://market.android.com giving a certificate error for everyone or just me?
This is probably not the site you are looking for!
You attempted to reach market.android.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as *.google.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration on the server or by something more serious. An attacker on your network could be trying to get you to visit a fake (and potentially harmful) version of market.android.com. You should not proceed

I wouldn't want to link anyone to a market page if someone who isn't aware of what this means could think I'm sending them links to a malicious site

EDIT2: Never mind.. Just tried it on a different computer in my house and it's fine.. something on my laptop seems to be causing it

No warnings on my end.

edit: Oops, your edit2 snuck in while I was posting.

A friend of mine is a product manager at Toshiba and he tells me they're gonna launch with wifi only at first.

Any 7" version?

Not at launch - there's going to be a 7" and a larger one (I think 11.6") in the summer though.

This was the tablet I was vaguely talking about at the Galaxy Tab launch, if anyone saw my douchily cryptic post.

Any ETA? I need Honeycomb, and Motorola's $800 pill is tough to swallow -- unless, of course, the Toshiba tablet debuts at a similar price.

Can anyone recommend me a good app for streaming media from my computer to my phone? Mainly videos and music.

Subsonic. But mainly for music though you can make it work for videos too.
