DoubleTwist updated AirSync to include AirTwist. It works like Apple's AirPlay. Stream media from your phone to your PS3 or Xbox.

How'd ya know it's coming to Three???
It's out this month, so I'm surprised there's not news on all mobile sites....
I follow them on Twitter and they posted a link to their blog here

It's not vanilla though, I got confused :s

...announced a much faster generation of the processor family, with speeds up to 2.5GHz per core. The multi-core (one, two, and four) 28nm chipsets, codenamed Krait, will feature WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, and FM, support NFC and stereoscopic 3D video / photo (capture and playback), and also boast multi-mode LTE modem integration.

can't wait for the new Android phones with these beasts inside

Does anyone have the default calendar apk for froyo? The POS HTC calendar is trash and can't find the google one anywhere online

It won't work. I followed the instruction used root explorer to replace the two apk in the system app folder. The calendar didn't load. And the worst thing is the Sense Calendar breaks 3rd party calendars.

So I ended up nuking the HTC ROM and replace it with a CM ROM. Basic Desire HD 2.2 ROM was more stable on my HTC but I COULD NOT STAND THE SENSE CALENDAR.

I'd be happy with a single core if they just improved the fucking battery life. Why the fuck does the iPhone still piss over all the android phones in this respect?

This. For god's sake, this.

this is not true at all. there are several android phones with way better battery life than the iphone. problem are fucked up and badly programmed apps which drain the accu fast.

I have the Motorola Defy and I can get 7 days out of the battery.
3-4 days at least with heavy usage (wLan, BT music player etc)

(the Defy is also No1 in several cell phone battery-tests; iphone included)

In other news, the Xperia Play is also coming to Three UK.

So is Optimus 3D. Yah my alternative phone my wife is using is out of contract, time to scoop one of these beasts and she can have my Orange X10 POS.

ok seriously what is up with android and the over pricing of the tablets.
the ipad is 499 why is the gslate and xoom tablets 1000 dollars or more

My guess if the iPad 2 is over $600 bucks Wi-Fi only, then these Tablets *may* have a chance. If it is still $499, there is no point to any of these tablets being made at these absurd prices.

Xoom is well under 1000, these companies are making huge mistakes by not launching with equivalent ipad models on the low end. Xoom needs to launch with the same configuration as the 499 ipad(16gb and wifi only) for a small amount cheaper. They are competing with the lowest selling model and are still above its price by a few bucks

You'll have to excuse my ignorance as my main exposure to Android has been HTC and Sony Ericsson. My own N1 lasts a day if I'm lucky, less with heavy usage.

Are you getting that long without rooting/underclocking?

Androids best the iPhone in talk time. iPhone bests Android in data usage.

Blah, my Droid Incredible doesn't look so hot. I have a year+ before I can upgrade. :( If only Verizon had released the iPhone 4 a year earlier...

My Defy is unrooted, has Motorblur interface and an untouched CPU(running at 800Mhz)
last weeks update increased the battery life even more.
note that the Defy still runs on eclair. Froyo update in summer should give it another push

I'm thinking that they're just riding the wave now and will end up reducing the price to match the competition later, that way they'll all seem nicer. Also at the rate tablets are popping up, by the time the iPad 2 is released we'll be really close to the second generation tablets. Sucks, but Android seems to be growing too fast at the moment.

The ipad2 will be arriving just as some of these models get released (wifi only versions, etc)

And there is no way apple will increase their prices now, they have a stranglehold on the market with the ridiculous competition

Got the e-mail yesterday from AT&T about pre-ordering the atrix which a couple months ago I probably would have but I can't leave verizon network. At least not while being an OTR truck driver.

And watch the OG iPad models get price drops.

My N1 sucks and has been worse since Froyo. Moto Defy sounds very impressive.

I just meant it as to say it's actually up and running on an Android device somewhere outside the Netflix compound. At least we know it's reasonably far along in development at this point.

Loving my Inspire 4G so far, but a couple of questions.

I like HandcentSMS much better than the stock messaging app. I've figured out how to change default applications by going to Settings -> Applications ->Messages -> Clear defaults. However, the 'Clear defaults' option is grayed out and I can't do anything with it.

Any ideas how I can change default applications? It seems to be grayed out for everything, even the web browser.

Also, I really like the look and feel of Launcher Pro (even though it's basically the same as Sense, the dock is what does it for me). Is there a way to get the Sense clock widget with Launcher Pro without buying Beautiful Widgets?

Okay, so basically you don't need to clear defaults or anything. All you gotta do is disable notifications for the stock messaging app and leave handcent on.

Once that's done you've effectively set handcent as the default sms program. The only thing you've gotta do is next time you need to send a message via the contacts menu or something similar, you'll be asked what program to use to perform the operation. Choose handcent, set as default, and done :)

And how do I do that? :(

'pro'-tip with android, when in doubt, press menu. Menus are completely non intrusive so people tend to forget about them a lot. (Spent a good 2 mins the first day trying to figure out how to add an APN. Fucking black empty screen.)

Anyway, yeah, like zesty said.

What exactly is the point of the Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0?

It's a 5" Galaxy S with outdated hardware (when compared to the new Galaxy S II)

galaxyswifi5.01.jpg

We'd be inclined to call this thing a Streak 5 or Acer 4.8 Iconia competitor, but it doesn't have a trace of cellular or 3G connectivity. We were, however, able to confirm what it does have -- it packs a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, a 800 x 480-resolution display, a 5 megapixel camera with a flash, and a 2500mAH battery. On the software front, it runs Android 2.2 (although it will be upgradable to Gingerbread) and TouchWiz. Oh, and it has the full suite of Google applications (YouTube, Gmail, Google Chat, etc.) and access to the Market.

So, what's it like? Well, it looks like an enlarged Galaxy Player (or what is now known as the Galaxy S WiFi 4.0), which really means it looks like Galaxy S smartphone and the Galaxy Tab mashup. The white slippery back clearly looks like our Sprint Galaxy Tab, but the thinner design and rounded edges remind us of a Vibrant or Fascinate. It's really a very "Samsung" device, and we don't mean that in a bad way -- the plastic build feels pretty solid and the screen seemed very high quality. As for performance, it seemed fairly quick and a preloaded video played rather smoothly.

Do people really want a 5" low res tablet?

Love my Android phone / iPod touch dynamic; don't think I'd want to change that. Would be a good vice-versa for non android folk though.

fancy widget for the clock

WIfe and I got our Evo Shift phones up and running this weekend and the IT guy at work just set up the firm's email to my phone. I'm all set.

Really like the phone, though it's gonna take a little getting used to since I'm coming off 2 years with a Storm.
