womp said:Z4Root. It's an app that you install, tap 'Enable Root', reboot and done. From there you can do ad blocking in apps/web browsing and make use of WiFi tethering which is great to have handy at times.
ROM's are fantastic for getting vanilla Android on say my Droid X which came preinstalled with enough horseshit bloatware to choke a small mammal. Unfortunately it seems to be the current trend with these phones and is very bad.
D'OH! So simple. How did I miss that? It's common sense!RoadHazard said:Open the folder and press & hold on the title bar. I also had some trouble figuring that out at first.
Jasoco said:3) Is there a way to set it to lock only after a set time like my iPod? I don't mean sleep. I mean lock it only after a set time passes, but if I try to wake it up before that time, it simply gives me the slider. (I have it set to use the pattern lock screen instead of a password.).
Deadly Cyclone said:More questions, I new at rooting! How easy is it to undo?
Also, are roms easy to install? I would like to root, but dont want to brick my phone.
What roms do you recommend?

Anyway, how do I take a screenshot of my screen without requiring the Android SDK? Does it really not have a simple built-in method like the iPhone?
Also, is there a way to scroll to the top of a page? Like how the iOS lets you tap the status bar?
Also, is there a way to rearrange icons better if the whole screen is filled? On the iPhone, when you drag an icon it displaces other icons, but it only allows flowing of icons. On the Android, you can place an icon anywhere on the grid, but there doesn't seem to be a way to swap two icons in the case that a screen is filled to the brim.

Seems for me, folders sort icons by name. Not by date added.RoadHazard said:#2 can be done in some web browsers (I know Opera Mobile supports it), but not in the OS menus as far as I know. Quick flicks seems to be the way to do it.
#1 and #3: No, as far as I know. The shortcut thing annoys me too. Rearranging a page can take a lot of work. And as far as I know, you can't rearrange stuff inside folders at all (besides dropping the shortcuts into the folder in the order you want them).

Jasoco said:I have my phone all set up to only use one single screen for everything I need with a folder for most used contacts and one for games. Other than that I have the News/Weather widget at the top, some bookmarks and social networking apps and other miscallaneous apps as well as phone-related features and Gmail at the bottom. One screen, one Dock, all at my fingertips. Sure, I don't get to oooh and aaah at the neat animations when switching screens and watching the wallpaper scroll, but I like it this way.
Hey, Dolphin HD is pretty cool! It does let me fake an iPhone so Xmarks looks right.RoadHazard said:Dolphin HD can be masked to identify as a whole bunch of browsers. I'm not 100% sure Safari is one of them, but I'd say it's likely.

I disagree. I just tried both and LauncherPro works much better for me. I really did not like Go Launcher EX at all.kinggroin said:Just a heads up for those new to android. Avoid launcher pro and get Go Launcher ex. It has ALL the speed and features of LP minus the stability problems, and bar none, the most robust app drawer in existence (with the ability make folders and arrange apps within them!). Its also 100% free.
As for the cool lp widgets, just get colorize widgets, and thank me later.

Seriously thinking about getting the Nexus S.
It raises the cost for the consumer. There are a lot of Android devices that have better GPU/RAM then the iPhone 4, but there still is no Infinity Blade, Dead Space or Rage on Android, and developers are still just porting 3GS apps. The Tegra2 is more powerful than the iPhone 4 hardware, but there aren't any games that take advantage of it. Now you jump to Tegra3, which might cost a bunch more?bdizzle said:The apps that require a more powerful processor on PC. Games
Developers will find ways to use the horsepower. It's always better to have too much and not need it then to need it and not have it.

Andrex said:I'm not worried about cost, but I will say that all this new power is probably going to wreck battery life which I care about much more. I mean, the Atrix has a 1930 mAh battery for Pete's sake. Ridiculous. Battery tech needs to advance the most right now.
Are you sure about that? The Verizon/CDMA iPhone 4 battery weighs 1.3 grams less than the GSM iPhone battery, but it seems to have gotten more than 15% increase in battery life in 8 months.Burger said:Unfortunately Moore's Law doesn't not apply to chemistry. I read an article recently where the battery industry considers a single digit percentage increase in performance per year a good number.
I'd say power on hand will be one of the biggest things holding back the mobile devices of the near future.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/16/htc-flyer-tablet-hits-amazon-de-for-669-euros/We're seeing some rather unattainable prices for many of the sexiest Android tablets to be unveiled at MWC and CES this year, but thankfully HTC's Flyer looks to be coming in a little lower than most. It's just popped up on Amazon.de at 669. Subtract the VAT and run that figure through a currency converter and you're looking at a price of around $730. A bargain? Hardly, but better than some others we've seen. Sadly it's still nicht verfügbar, but if you hurry you can jetzt vorbestellen.

The Playbook will supposedly be $500.tino said:The Asus MeMO is supposed to be 500. Let's face it. If you want 7 inch tablet, the only real options are Nook Color, used Galaxy Tab and Huawei S7 Slim, in that order.

After playing around with the hacked preview build of Honeycomb on the NC last night and today (off a class 2 SD card no less) this is looking really viable.tino said:If you want 7 inch tablet, the only real options are Nook Color,
I'd use DVD shrink to rip the films and Handbrake to encode with appropriate settings. The great thing about HB is that it has a slew of predefined setting presets for different target hardware.gcubed said:wow... nice
i need to start ripping my dvd collection. What are some good settings for 10" tablet and phone viewing? Any way to split the difference so i dont have to keep multiple copies? How about how to do it? Handbrake?
