If you've used the iPad, a comparison between the two would be nice too. I'm trying to decide between the iPad2 and Moto Xoom.

I have access to an ipad and then in a week or so I will have access to an ipad dos. I'll be more than happy to post some comparisons like the speed at which apps open and web browsing. I probably will do it as a video though so expect a youtube link shortly.

Arg, for some reason, my Xoom isn't activating with Verizon. Keeps saying it's unable to activate mobile data service.

stupid question, the when you bought the zoom is the representative activate your data plan on the spot? I know I get the same error as you if I tried to activate the data connection, but that's because I refusd to get the data plan

Yessssssss 2.3.3 Gingerbread finally available for my Nexus One.
Enjoy!

I broke down and manually installed last week. I'm really liking the little improvements. Everything seems much snappier, a good amount of memory space was freed up and the battery life has improved :D

She said she activated me in the system, even gave me the phone number for the device. Something might be up with the device, it's decently warm after about 80 minutes of use and just now it hard locked and then rebooted on it's own while I was reading some RSS feeds.

I have a T-Mobile G1 (which is firmware 1.6)

Instead of getting a new phone I was thinking about upgrading the firmware on the phone instead.

Thoughs?

After searching around I see that people have done it but I don't know how much risk there is or how well it would run. All I really want is to customize the home screen like in the android customization thread (what firmware is that?), not get on the latest and greatest.

Any good guides out there? I'm on the no contract plan and don't want to sign a contract so I would need to buy a new phone outright and to be honest I like my little G1

while the xoom is not without its share of bugs, I've yet to have the device reboot on me.

It definitely feels "snappier". Love the look of it. Black notification bar and the way the screen shuts off is great. Keyboard feels pretty good although I never had a big problem with the old one. Very pleased so far.

$540 wifi xoom sounds pretty good. I have hope that we'll see good 399 honeycomb tablets by fall. And by then honeycomb should be more polished. I'm still going to hold out at least until Asus slider comes out and also see which tablet will get the latest updates quickest either through official channel or via xda devs. Competition ftw.

My point was that had the iPad 2 been retina display, 1GB RAM, 1.5GHz dual core, etc it would have been the greatest thing they've ever seen. Funny how Apple comes out looking good either way.

But, now they're also saying that specs don't matter. WTF is that about? Specs matter in anything I purchase.

I finally tried CM7 and well, it takes a bit to get but it is pretty awesome.

Haven't tried performance yet or battery, but it seems as fast as stock htc sense. But you gotta love that lock screen with that awesome dialer to unlock. And the qucik access to settings on the notification screen is a godsend.

Still, I got a few problems with the default widgets. Calendar does not show anything even when in the app I have some birthdays. News reader only shows one item when the widget it taking one screen and such.

I guess I should get some other widgets :D

I'd still like to wait on the Toshiba tablet to see how they price that out. I'd prefer to go with a tablet that sports a full-size SD card slot, USB and HDMI. Don't see any reason why devices this size shouldn't offer I/O options like that.

Let it be. Let's not keep porting it into this thread.

My Xoom is not getting along with my PS3's. When using the wifi on both devices the xoom and PS3's seem to lock up when it comes to trying to get online, yet any other wifi device we use works fine. Turning off the Xoom lets the PS3's work.

Mine works fine along side my PS3. I've heard of this before happening before and it's always involves a PS3. You may need to get a new router.

Sounds like a ip/dhcp configuration problem. They're probably both using the same ip.

I had a old Nokia before which I switched to a G1 (on contract with T-Mobile, still had to pay $300) and then when that went nuts in June of last year I picked up a Nexus One direct from google's site unsubbed (so I paid the $570).

I got a call the other day from T-Mobile saying "Hi, we're taking a survey, how do you rate our service?" I gave them a 9 just for the hell of it. It's good, not perfect all the time but it works for me. The person THEN mentioned that my contract was up and if I wanted to renew for 2-years they'd give me a $5 credit/month to my account for that timeframe. They also mentioned I could upgrade to a newer phone and get the subsidized price on it if I wanted.

What do you guys think of this? Can I find a better plan/service than what I have now?
(two lines, 700 shared minutes - which we never ever exceed - for $60 plus $25 for my 3G data package & 400 text messages for my line = $85/month) I haven't seen something cheaper from any of the carriers. She said I could take advantage of this promo through March 19th.

Any massively better than my Nexus One phones coming out anytime soon on T-Mo? :)

Yup, that happened to me with my laptop and ps3. Give the ps3 a static IP address by going through the advanced/custom network setup.

have you tried reading a comic book on the device yet? how does it look?

also, what are the exact dimensions of the screen itself? i know it's 10.1 diag but i was wondering about h x w

thanks!

They called me three times and my plan is more awesome than it has ever been. If that 400 mins is not enough, have them give you the $20 Android plan and the $10 unlimited family messaging (so both lines have unlimited for that 1 price).

Protip:
this is something you can do at any time. There really isn't an expiration.
Save that #.

At the right times there's even certain phones you can get for free. (Got my G2 for free.99)

Well I downloaded N64oid. I gave it a try with Mario Kart 64 and Super Mario 64, two of my all time favorite games! :D

Super Mario 64 ran great, some audio and framerate problems but fine besides that.

Mario Kart 64, on the otherhand, crashes whenever I a race is about to start. It will get right to the starting line, the lights signaling race starting with go off and the game will crash. Anyone had success with this game?

Overall though, I am very pleased. I love the N64, it is my all time favorite console, I still play it at home and now I can play it on the go too!

I am running it on an OG Droid overclocked to 1ghz by the way.

Have you tried disabling the sound? I heard it helps. I don't have the emu though, my phone is a myTouch Slide, maybe I'll try OCing it to see if I can run it..

I liked my G1, but if you can upgrade, try to. Look for people selling used phones on craigslist and other forums. I went up to a myTouch slide because its similar to the G1 in form factor, but better in every aspect.

If you want to keep your G1, go to the xda-developers forum for it and find out how to root it (the G1 takes a little work to root, unless they found a one-touch root for it) then go from there. They should have a tutorial or guide you can use and your phone will run much better.

Doing a little math based on 16:10 ratio and 10.1 diag I come up with 8.56"w x 5.35"h

Yeah, I tried that, didn't help at all

Loving how small the bezel is for the Xoom. It hasn't rebooted on it's own since the first time, but Facebook is still force closing, and I can't activate my data yet. Will be heading back to VZW tomorrow about the data plan, I'm assuming the issues with Facebook are just growing pains with Honeycomb, so I can't complain about it.

fb was working for me, but hideous on the screen, so i uninstalled it and just use the full web version

Anyone move from an iPhone to a Galaxy S 4g?

Co-worker just did and he's complaining about the way images are rendered (dithering) on the Galaxy. I figured it has something to do with the higher res screen, but thought I'd check in case it's something he can change in software.

I guess the big problem areas are browsers and Gallery.

Not sure about the G1, but I have an Evo and rooting and installing a new rom is super easy. 1. use unrevoked to root your G1
2. install Rom Manager
3. open Rom manager and install ClockworkMod
4. download your rom of choice and put it on your SD Card
5. reboot into recovery mode and flash

Once you have everything downloaded and installed, it takes a whopping 60 seconds to flash to a new rom

Just helped someone with their new Samsung Epic, that shit is aweful. Such a bad skin. Told her to get the Evo Shift instead.

I got that for my Mom, put LauncherPro on it. She loves it. It has better hardware than the EVO Shift; the screen is amazing. I personally still prefer HTC as a company, as far as updates go.

I hate to quote myself for a bump but I really need some advice as I will need to decide on this soon. So far we're leaning towards AT&T because the monthly payments will be lower but damn if AT&T doesnt have any slider phones.

Hi guys, looking to get a family plan with 4 smartphones and of course Android is on top of the list. We really love QWERTY sliders in the family and are leaning towards the G2 on tmobile but the Atrix on ATT is pretty tempting. With our discounts we can get the G2 for $50 while the Atrix is $200 each. Is the speed bump worth the difference and lack of physical keys?

Is there any other dual core coming out soon in the next 1-3 weeks that I should wait for instead? How about a dual core slider? I would pay good money for that? Or should I just stick with the cheap G2s and buy an unlocked dual core slider when/if one comes out later this year?

Thanks for any advice in advance

If keypad is important to you, which is in my case, no spec is worth it if it doesn't have one. Dual core probably won't really matter *too* much, especially on the phone until there are things that can really push it... But I honestly don't use the phone for gaming so it doesn't matter.

T mobile has some of the best family plans in the market, no carrier will be able to match it if you get good service in your area. The g2 is a great phone if you like sliders. and is a fast phone (same that goes to the htc evo shift).

Making an assumption here, but I think that 'dithering' is a result of the pentile display on the super amoled screen.
