Contracts aren't the problem. AT&T will simply stop using the 1700/2100 MHz spectrum for HSPA+ devices. That will be reserved for LTE. Everything in T-Mobile's lineup will only be able to access EDGE

They can't cut customer's service off willy nilly, and the loss of revenue from contract dropping would be disasterous.

Especially considering that t-mobiles data service is now labeled as "4G". It'll be a gradual process, and it won't start happening for at least two years.

Incredible S Review, for those that want a murdered out phone to match their matte black challengers.

rock it for a year at least.

Still hoping it doesn't go through, though. Especially because At&t would have to pay Tmo a 3 billion dollar break up fee.

.. yup. Still not over it yet.
The $3 billion breakup fee means AT&T can spend $2.9 billion to lobby Congress/FCC for approval and still come out losing less money.

HSDPA (3G) and HSPA+ (4G) use the same spectrum. If HSDPA is being shut off, so is HSPA+.

Have fun with AT&T.

I'm pretty sure I'll be knocking over magazine racks in all AT&T stores once this happens.

That's my point. The shitstorm that would arise if ATT just "shuts" off data for customers in contracts paying to 4G service would be insane.

They have to gradually phase out those T-Mobile customers over time.

Hey, I don't know, maybe moving those customers over to att phones would be cheaper for them than trying to salvage their current contracts. Time will tell.

My T-Mobile contract says nothing about 4G data. It just says Unlimited Android Data Plan. It will still be unlimited, it will just be unlimited on EDGE.

There has to be a dual core Nexus coming soon. I'm hoping in May.

We only have two to go by of course, but they are on a 11-12 month release schedule so far with the Nexus line.

Don't think we will see Nexus 3 until Ice Cream is ready. I'm thinking October/November of this year.

this is the US we are talking about. Stern talk and a rubber stamp... and wireless is even lower on the list of "gov't cares about"
Yup :/ At this point I'm for anyone else other than AT&T. A pity Sprint's pockets weren't big enough; though I guess the logistics would have been harder for them.

LOL true... :(

I guess it's a good thing the Pyramid isn't a Nexus phone then. Would have said fuck it anyways and bought it.

Hmm didnt see it was 32gb. Still think its too much. Average Joe will still go for the iPad at the same price. Considering you can buy a pretty decent laptop for $300-$400 I just don't get the pricing of these tablets at all..
that's what i've been saying for ages!

how can tablets with lower specs than an AMD Fusion Netbook cost more?

Unless Asus drops the ball, the transformer should start at 399 for its honeycomb goodness. I'd love to see the Toshiba start there too.

Friend of mine bought two bricked Viewsonic Gtabs fixed them both and is offering one to me at a pretty good price. I may just jump on that and ride it out till the 2nd gen stuff comes out.

There's another HTC Pyramid spyshot floating around. The launcher looks like a blend of Sense and stock Android.

According to TmoNews' tipster, it's coming to T-Mobile in June, and it will sport Android 2.4 with HTC Sense 3.0.

htc-pyramid-wild1-550x434.jpg

call me crazy, but that doesn't look like 4.3 inches to me

So tablet watchers. The Asus Transformer (i refuse to call it the EEE Pad Transformer) coming out this friday in Taiwan, and next month (all according to plan) in the US.

+1

However, with the shitty ATT news, the Pyramid is now not a temptation to re-sign with t-mobile.
Where you off to? Sprint? Verizon?

Vyse The Legend said:
Considering the phone next to it is the Desire HD, which sports a 4.3in screen, I'd say you're crazy.

maybe because the pyramid is thinner it's throwing me off, but it looks smaller than 4.3 to me

official specs for the 8.9" samsung tablet

galaxy-tab-89-two.jpg

That thing is super slim. Yum. As long as the 8.9" and 7" variants run stock Honeycomb I'm in. Just sold my original iPad so I'm really looking forward to some solid details/pricing emerging tomorrow at the Sammy event.

Motorola Zoom (wifi) release in Apr for Canada. 3G version later in the year.

http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/03/21/m...t-599-99-estimated-release-date-of-april-8th/

$599

Really? Almost $100 more than a 16GB ipad 2 will go for? The prices of these Android tablets is out to lunch.. especially the Galaxy Tab which is about $500 still.. wtf They will never get mass adoption if this continues.

Like the android phones vs iphone, I can see the android tablets overtaking the Ipads in time, but you will never see any single tablet really compete at all with the ipad. There is just so many different models prices and coming from so many directions.

More specifically, it looks like a Sense phone running LauncherPro...which leads me to believe this one could be a fake.

Honeycomb in June? Any ideas what it is supposed to bring? This fragmentation thing is going to be ridiculous the further we go down the line.
I ain't too worried tho, nexus phone blah blah... :3

I bought a Droid X with my Verizon upgrade last week. Good choice? I love it so far. But I can't tabbed browse the internet? :(

Dude...the Thunderbolt just came out. I'd return the X and get a Thunderbolt for the sweet LTE love.

Verizon is more likely for me. I'm going to keep watching and see how the merger shakes out and see what phones are announced.

I was hoping to keep my Nexus One until a new Nexus is announced. I'm still crossing my fingers that the merger fails (are there any petitions or anything out there?) and a new Nexus phone will go to T-mo.

Just an FYI: Samsung's 8.9in tablet has a custom UX on top of Honeycomb. It's called "Live Panel," and it has Playbook-styled previews of apps running in the background.

Let the skinning of Honeycomb begin. :(

Price difference?
Edit: So it's a $100 price difference...is there a rebate?

I went with the Droid X because it's what I could afford.

The Tab 8.9 is slimmer than the iPad 2?

Wow
Wow indeed. I didn't expect anybody to match the iPad 2. Thinner, lighter, smaller and a higher resolution screen?! I could get behind that.

That actually sounds like a good launcher. I'd certainly prefer it to the app switching I tried out on the Xoom. As long as it's easily rootable and there aren't any restrictions on the tablet itself then I won't mind too much. Honeycomb updates though? Oh well...

The Thunderbolt can be had for $179.99 from Amazon right now.

Ack....tempting, but it was a gift from my parents (poor college student here lol) and they liked that the Droid X was $99 after a $50-rebate.

Jesus christ. Last year i would have argued that HTC made the best looking/fuctional devices, but the past several months it feels like every phone they make now looks almost the same as the one before. What happened?

I want to see small awesome updated aria form factors rather than clones of evos.

Highly possible. How many times have we seen a leaked phone with a blurred out screen of its app launcher, or screen in general. This will be my final T-Mobile phone if A. T-Mobile becomes AT&T B. If prices skyrocket C. I die.

I think they are trying to create an identity. You can tell an HTC Android Device just by the look and feel even if there isn't any HTC logo on it. Unibody design, funky backplates, large speaker grill top and centre. But I can see how you could become jaded by it very very quickly. Most people don't spend their lives looking at mobile and technology blogs though so it ain't so much a problem for them.

Wjat's happening with the HTC phones (look wise) happened with laptops, desktops, Mac products, motorcycles, buildings etc etc. Uniqueness will be happen less, but build quality will be steady. A good enough trade off.

Oh man I may have found my next phone. It has everything I want with hopefully good music listening quality, high battery life (according to Engadget review), and all the other standard stuff at good speeds..

WHAT DO YOU THINK GAF? This or get the Bionic which has the dual core chip running inside?

There's still no real reason to prefer dual core over single core yet. I could see Android Ice Cream changing that however...but that isn't going to be revealed in any shape or fashion until May at the earliest. Until then the Incredible S is a beautiful handset with a promised upgrade to Gingerbread.

just played with a thunderbolt and a xoom again.

Leave it to best buy to not have the thunderbolt activated, so all I can really comment on was the hardware experience. I have an OG droid, and the 4.3 in screen feels HUGE. It's kind of disconcerting, though I know that's where phones are going so I'll probably just have to get used to it. The hardware felt solid; it's big, heavy (i like heavy) and the kickstand is a nice touch. It's thick enough and rounded on the back so it fits in your hand as well as a 4.3" phone could.

I'm not a fan of sense, but I use launcher pro so that's an easy replacement. I was kind of surprised that the phone wasn't 'lightning' fast (excuse the pun). It didn't hang per se but my droid running at 1.1ghz is even a bit snappier. Screen was bright and crisp. If I were up for replacement now i'd definitely consider it.

As for the xoom, I think that's been beaten to death here so the only thing I really played with was the portrait scrolling (and google body, for shits). Every time i'd return to the home screen, either in portrait or landscape, there was a couple ms lag you could feel, but otherwise I thought portrait scrolling was actually fine. After messing around with the xoom a few times I've come to the conclusion that it's a well put together piece of hardware, and the software just has to catch up. I won't be in the tablet market for a while so I'm excited to see where things go...

EDIT: Wouldn't you expect the incredible S to be on verizon? If so, why no 4g? After seeing those speeds on the thunderbolt everything without it just seems...uncivilized.

Skinning Honeycomb huh. Paying for something at such a high price and this shit still is a issue. Unless there's a Nexus tablet that's reasonably priced, and Google puts some polish on the market, I can't ever see myself buying a Android tablet, especially after owning a iPad. Man, Google needs to grow some fcking balls.
Openess + carriers = abuse.

If samsung has any sense they'll do something akin to T-Mobile themes chooser. Hello they should just USE the theme chooser and build on it. TMo did open source it after all.

Haha, you're really going to say that and think anybody is going to agree with you? You can just buy a different model that isn't skinned. You have choices in an open market.

ugh @ more skinning. why can't google just make vanilla android work on all devices, and give US the choice to put it on, or put on the skinned versions from htc and the like?

is that really so much to ask for?

This is so ridiculous it's awesome:

Android is free.

They have no say what so ever with what a company does with it once it's used.

Motorola is doing nothing to android. It's not because they're being noble. It's because it's the fastest way to get Android on their devices.
