Samsung, lol…

http://technologizer.com/2011/03/25...t-its-figure-and-about-those-galaxy-tab-fans/

Me, I was confused about a different aspect of Samsung’s event, which you can watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jXY1x_tTcY

Much of it was devoted to video clips from the “Samsung Galaxy Tab Interview Project,” which the opening titles said took place on March 3rd in New York, and which was shown to involve inviting busy, successful New Yorkers to try the Galaxy Tab of their choice and share their opinions. The New Yorkers in question were identified as “freelance travel writer” Joan Hess, “independent film director” Karl Shefelman, and “CEO, leading New York real estate firm” Joseph Kolinksi.

As I watched the interviews, I noticed that Shefelman spoke and behaved more or less like a normal person, but Hess and Kolinksi came off as performers dressed for their parts and parroting Samsung talking points. I couldn’t tell whether we were supposed to take the clips as a documentary or a mockumentary. So I Googled around and couldn’t find any references to a travel-writing Joan Hess (one with, as she said, a following on Twitter) or a real-estate CEO Joseph Kolinski.

I did notice, however, that freelance travel writer Joan Hess bears a striking resemblance to New York actress Joan Hess:

And that real estate CEO Joseph Kolinski could be New York actor Joseph Kolinksi‘s twin brother:

Filmmaker Karl Shefelman, on the other hand, looks a lot like…filmmaker Karl Shefelman. Who works for a New York production company. One that’s done work for Samsung.

A thin, light Honeycomb tablet starting at $499 still sounds like a good idea to me. I just feel like it’s not clear whether Samsung has one that’s actually thinner than the iPad 2 yet, or whether it came up with the specs before it had a prototype to match them–and also decided to build its own happy Galaxy Tab users rather than find them in the wild.

Can anyone tell me which phones still use 1.6? I've got about 2-3% users (of my app) still on 1.6 and I'd really like to bump up the minimum API, but I assume the phones that are still 1.5 or 1.6 are never getting the updates

i... uhh... what?

i dunno what Samsung was trying to do, but when i saw that promo, i thought it was like many other product promos where they get actors to "simulate" what real people would do... like those Wii and Kinect promos. i can't speak for anyone else, but i never thought and never felt i was led to believe those were actual real people.
I know what you mean, but this led me to believe that it was real.

Well, decent day to be an Atrix 4G owner. First, AT&T is enabling HSUPA+ in April,

And second, Motorola released a small update (I have yet to install it, charging my phone):

Bluetooth - Improved multimedia experience with Bluetooth devices as well as the ability to use phone with additional headsets
Fingerprint reader - Improved fingerprint reader performance
Battery - Improved battery performance for longer battery life
Screen - Display will turn off automatically now while charging directly on wall charger
Phone stability - Improved stability resulting in fewer occurrences of touch unresponsiveness and/or programs quitting unexpectedly.
Car dock - Improved performance of car dock and 3.5mm jack

Bill Gurley thinks that Android is an unstoppable freight train that will prevail against all its rivals. For Google, Android is not even a product with a business plan. It's just a weapon at the service of their master domination strategy, a way to destroy any potential threats that may eventually kill their search monster. This is how they are doing it and the potential consequences.

I actually kind of agree.
But it might take a few more years to see if this opinion will become a fact.

Apparently Swiftkey is today's free app according to the e-mail I just got.

Morning folks,

Apologies if you're on our primary mailing list and have received this
message from me twice, but I couldn't resist making sure everyone was in
the know.

Today on the Amazon Appstore, the full version of SwiftKey is FREE. That
means that anyone who downloads the Amazon client and has an account can
get SwiftKey for $0.00... for one day only. Find out more on our blog here:
http://www.swiftkey.net/blog/?p=405

Given that you folks are by far our most important users, I just wanted to
let you all know this so you can help spread the word! The more people that
find out, the better!

Also, we're a whisker off getting 10,000 VIP beta testers in here, which is
great. To celebrate, we'll be running a special competition for VIPs when
we hit 10,000... so if you know anyone who may wish to sign up, please let
them know. Registration is currently open.

Have a great weekend!

Joe

According to an email I just got from the company, Swiftkey will be the Amazon Appstore free app of the day for Saturday. It's not up yet though.

Edit: Curse you Sangreal!

It's what I've been saying for a while whenever a Chrome OS vs. Android argument breaks out.

can a droid phone stream from zune.net? I am sure an Android would not have Zune software, but at least streaming can utilize a Zune Pass.

Anybody know of a way I can have the screen dim before going to sleep? I want it to dim for like the last 5 seconds like the iphone so I can touch the screen and stop it from sleeping.

I'm thinkin about getting a new, small (pocket size) phone that's also a good music player. Which one should I buy?

Currently using an old W200i..

They can always build ChromeOS on top of Android. It's just a persistent browser.

I think ChromeOS need to be a feature build into Chrome browser. So I can access "my computer" from any PC running Chrome browser.

I think google has a master plan. They just don't say it. For example, 3.0 has the capability to upload all your music to the cloud the stream it. That is one huge piece of puzzle that can eventually move your whole computer to the cloud.

Think about it, nowadays what can't you do on the cloud? Games, videos, movie/photo editing, what else? google is slowly moving the desktop dependent service to the cloud piece by piece. I would like to see google give us a serious media management tool I can access from the cloud. I want to manage my NAS and stream my video from the cloud.

I'm sure devs are getting paid by Amazon.
True, but it's perception problem as well. If you can get it for free (ie. someone is paying for it), why would you pay yourself in the future?

LG Chocolate 3 or similar phones from LG/Samsung.

Give it time. The next step is to run a promotion with an app of the day for $1. A year from now, Amazon will have lightning deals for the Appstore and users will be paying $20 for a task management app ;)

Have you never visited or purchased anything in retail, like ever?

I think of it this way. I have Shazam now, where before I would have never paid for it. I think it's awesome, and I show my friends, and they think it's cool. Well now they have to pay for it if they want it, it's only free for one day (not that long).

if only sony ericsson would make a walkman phone with android...

I don't understand the argument, the developers I'm sure either consent or love the promotion. I'm hoping that this spurs google to go further into the drm of the base market. I'm not sure amazon is really going to take off but it exposes holes in the android market.

I believe the Amazon app store gives devs the same cut as the Android app store - 70%. If the app is the free deal of the day the developer will get a 20% "cut". but obviously that 20% comes straight out of Amazon's pocket. All the developers agree to these terms when they sign up for the Amazon store.

many studies have shown that sales of stuff like this have gone up after free promotions

Maybe this is a Galaxy S thing, but my Captivate does this by default. Might be hardware based because it did it stock, and it still does it with the various custom ROMs I've used.

Anyone ever had this problem with their YouTube account on Android?

Was working fine up until last week, I tried unlinking and re-linking my accounts but it didn't seem to do the trick. Any had this and know to fix it?

If Google want to kill Amazon all they have to do is give developers 100% of the price and sort out some better search options.

Why would google want to kill amazon? They'd be seen as hypocrites considering the whole google voice on iphone thing. This is what happens in an open ecosystem. Amazon is offering nicer incentives than android market.

Played around with the Xoom and iPad 2. I've got to say, the Xoom impressed me a lot more. Really like the UI (although I'll admit, it's still not as user friendly as the iPad).
Can't wait to see Ice Cream on phones.

That's why I said 'If'. I never said they wanted to kill Amazon, I just said how they could achieve it.

:P

Thats what Im thinking too. I only see threads about people wanting to remove that feature, and its only on certain phones. It's so handy..

And is there a reason I cant play Angry Birds Rio without an internet connection? I just get an error saying that the connection to the Amazon Store could not be made. The other Amazon games I got are fine. My friend put his phone on Airplane mode and it worked fine...

My Thunderbolt and previous HTC phones did it as well.
