Our guy wasn't kidding about it being bad; Ant? That's terrible! LOL

Can't cosign 8GB at 450 either. Transformer is too easy; even the Acer beats it. Still it's better than the Xoom pricing and I appreciate it Toshiba.

Asus wins this round. Unless you don't care about the dock or dislike the proprietary cable and lack of USB on the tablet itself...

I disagree, Ant is a pretty sick name! It gives off the connotation of something that is small, yet powerful. Though, my favorite Android tablet name thus far is the HTC Flyer.

Yeah I work at one and we recieved ours too. The screen is really nice, the colors really pop while not having that really blown up look of the samoled screens and the blacks, while obviously are beaten by samoled, look really good. The glass on the front also has this really nice curve to it which feels really nice. The monster bezel isn't as noticeable as first thought either

Scored 2322 in quadrant stock.
Are you referencing the SGS2? If you are can I correct you, it has Super AMOLED screen.

I wouldn't be surprised if it has the same bugs as the O2X in Europe. as mine was scoring around 2300 on Quadrant, and with the bug fix 3100-3200 on average. no overclocking or anything else, just 2 very simple fixes.

1080p video on this thing runs smooth as butter.

It's almost like they want you to buy a Galaxy S2. Samsung + Unlocked bootloaders = win?

Seriously, if true

yes_taeyeon.gif

After witnessing how smooth a SGS with Darky's ROM is a Dual Core Sammy with all the mod cons could be a goer. Buuuuut my Nexus One seems to fight on just when it is down and out.

SGS2 on Expansys for a penny short of £500. Want.

Wonder how much I could get for my SGS....? :/

Knew I shouldn't have gone and tied myself down to a long term contract, lesson learnt for next time around.

the thing is with all these recent SGS2 previews hitting lately ..they are all still based on the 1ghz exynos prototype, not the final retail version with dual core 1.2GHz exynos.

ps mobi city confirmed it's shipping to customers 3rd may

http://www.facebook.com/MobiCityFans

super amoled+ screen, 1.2GHZ exynos, NFC ... bring it

No, I think they might manufacture them but I'm pretty sure Apple design 'em (Whoops, it's Intel). Didn't they buy the company that designed the Hummingbird? Intrinsity? That's just the CPU. Intel designed the GPU of the iPhone 4, Apple use it by license.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Consumer_Electronics#Series5_.28SGX.29
Imagination Technologies designs the PowerVR GPUs. Intel and Apple are just large shareholders.

Save for Qualcomm and partly Nvidia, pretty much everyone piggybacks off of ARM for CPUs and Imagination for GPUs.

TI OMAP: ARM CPU, PowerVR GPU
Apple A4/A5: ARM CPU, PowerVR GPU
Samsung: ARM CPU/GPU (Exynos), ARM CPU/PowerVR GPU (Hummingbird)
Nvidia Tegra 2: ARM CPU, Nvidia GPU
Qualcomm Snapdragon: Qualcomm CPU (Scorpion), Qualcomm GPU (Adreno)

That said, there's a lot more to designing an SoC than just the CPU and GPU. The two are important, but they only compromise half of the other things that goes into making one. Anandtech had a good piece on the value of Intrinsity (who helped design the Hummingbird and A4) and why Apple acquired them: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3665/apples-intrinsity-acquisition-winners-and-losers

So I think Google follows this thread, the latest update for Google Translate removes the "Google" from the app drawer, it can now be found under "T" instead of "G".

lol

You know...you don't have to upgrade as soon as you're eligible. I guess that requires a little patience.

I've had a shitty phone for a long time now. If Q3, that better mean early July.

So i guess i'm going to go with the galaxy s II. That is a damn shame its coming out so late though. My brother still has a flip phone and I told him i'de give him my vibrant. Guess he will have to wait a lot longer.

Hope it comes out sooner.

Dang, I wanted to tell my sister-in-law to wait for the SGS2 on Verizon, but I don't think she'll be able to wait till July/August.

Is the Droid Charge worth considering over the Thunderbolt?

Sure. Dualcore > singlecore. Probably bigger battery too.

I don't understand how Verizon sold more Thunderbolt than iPhone.

This always bothers me when I look at the thread title but doesnt "Gorged on gingerbread, Hungry for Honeycomb" sound better?

Vote to Change?

To be accurate it should be hungry for gingerbread, eyeing the honeycomb.

Both phones are single core, unless your talking about the SG2.

So every phone Verizon announced in CES was dual core except this one? What the hell is the point of this phone? Samsung already got Galaxy S.

There is about 15-25 subsidized money build into your smartphone contract every month. If you don't upgrade as soon as possible, you are basically paying this 15-25 dollar to the carrier for nothing.

That's one of the reason I don't do contract anymore.

Someone posted a few weeks back about an app they are using to automate some power management things. Such as auto turn on Airplane mode and turn off auto sync at certain times.

Someone did.

So word is the transformer's dropping on the 30th. Anyone here getting it day-one?

Man that is going to be cutting it close. My Ipad2 is "supposed" to get here May 5th, but with how early people seem to be getting them when ordering online, I expect it to get here the last week of April.

I want to consider the Transformer seriously, but the lack of information about price and release date is making it hard for me to care.

I don't think I will be disappointed at all with the Ipad2, but the Transformer is very appealing to me. I really want to get my hands on it and try it out before making a final decision, but if the Ipad2 gets to me before I try out the Transformer, I will just keep the Ipad2.

well consider the fact that you'll actually be able to do something productive with the transformer because of that keyboard. That should be a big enough incentive for you to wait for more information. Just wait for some early reviews.

Asus Transformer is high on my potential list, but I really really need to hear what Apple is going to have in iOS5 before I decide. Also wish we'd move past the Tegra 2 chipset since from everything I've heard and seen, it just seems to fall short of being good.

What makes you say that?

I wouldn't go off the Atrix or the Xoom. Motorola at the moment are proving just how good (in this case bad) they are at device optimisation.

From all reports that I have seen the LG 2X which packs a Tegra 2 SoC is a real flyer (and LG aren't widely commended for their device optimisation either)

Personal experience. Worked on a piece of hardware using it and there was constant performance issues.

doesn't the SGS2 work in the states anyways .... supports enough freq ..aint one of them good enough for the US networks?
People in the States don't buy off-contract phones. Plus there is no store that sell them. (hence the failure of Nokia)

I have heard issues with AT&T detecting an off-contract phone and reverting your plan from the grandfathered unlimited one to the max 2GB one.

If that isn't the case I would import the phone, I am sure some of the online stores will sell it here.

Very impressive video review of the G2x:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYULrpSFu6g

Interesting that they found the screen so impressive, since I read a lengthy UK review that was very negative on the screen. The UK review didn't mention IPS either; is the US model screen improved?

I think this is definitely my next phone, and the upgrade from my first gen MyTouch 3G is going to be oh so sweet. The wait until May 10th (my full upgrade eligibility date) is going to be painful.
