Just noticed this sesson at I/O. Lol.

The problem with this is, I'm not sure if this is completely tongue in cheek because it feels more like a representation of a real-life opinion.

I'm eligible for a TMO upgrade in THREE DAYS (woo!), and I can't wait to order my G2X. I've been pricing the phone online (amazon/wirefly), and every place seems to want me to sign up for a $30/month package for 4G internet in order to checkout. I already have an unlimited web plan for $24.99/month which I'd prefer to keep. Does this mean I'm stuck ordering through TMO directly and paying more for the phone? I've never dealt with a third party phone vendor before.

Hey guys,
I have a 5 year old (now unused) laptop which I would like to use as some sort of media server/streamer, especially to stream music/pictures/video over the air to my new SGSII. Do you folks know a cheap (or even free) and easy solution to do that?

Thanks.

check out SUBSONIC.

Call and ask T-Mobile about this. My guess as to what they'll tell you is that when you get the phone, you can call them to activate it and they'll make sure you get your old rate. An Amazon support person will likely tell you the same thing.

This won't work with Amazon. They will not allow upgrades for certain carriers. I tried it about a month ago. But what you can do, is have TMO price match Amazon.

Wifi on my San Francisco/ Blade has stopped working and i don't know why. Shit.

Mention the Wirefly deal too which is the G2X for $100 and they maybe able to match it. I got them to match the Amazon deal buy giving me $100 credit to my bill. I also got to keep the preferred Android plan for 19.99

Man, I just found out I can go pick up an Asus Transformer today. Must resist... Anyone else get theirs yet?

I got one, then sold it for $100 profit. I did like it a lot, but the apps right now don't hold a candle to the iPad. It is a great Android tablet, though, if a bit big.

Thanks to you and everyone else for the tip - sounds like calling TMO and asking them to match is the way to go. Do I have to talk to retentions for that, or just a regular CSR?

Also, I saw in the fine print for tmobile's $50 rebate for the G2X that a $30 or higher data plan is required. Are you still getting the $50 rebate with your data plan?

Got a HTC Aria today. Any must-have apps? (Free preferred.)

I was reading the impressions of the Galaxy S 2 by dejay and saw "LauncherPro" mentioned. I Googled but there was no official description of what it is on the site and on the marketplace the description is just a changelog. What is it exactly?

edit: gave it a go and it seems pretty cool. much nicer looking than default droid, even with the extra screens HTC Sense gives you.

Call and say "cancellations" or "loyalty", they're the ones that usually bend over backwards.

The $25 dollar unlimited internet, is it an android plan?

Guying showing of a Transformer working with a randomg logitech keyboard. All of the special functions work (volume, media play buttons, etc).

Very cool.

Hopefully other manufactures take some notes for their next iteration.

You can configure Launcher Pro to provide up to seven home screens.

Yes, that was the standard plan that launched with the MyTouch 3G two years ago, which I'm still rocking. Apparently lots of people have had success with retentions in getting a $19.99 preferred android plan, but I was shot down when I tried.

Yeah I had a dig around the preferences for it and saw that. That's fantastic. The only thing that annoys me is me occasionally using a feature that isn't available in the free version and it pops up with an error. But that's fine for getting a better experience.

The Wave Launcher free on Amazon today is pretty cool. I changed it to swipe from left since LauncherPro uses bottom gestures.

Was just coming here to see if anyone tried it, using go launcher but looks like from your post you can pair it with other launchers, so ill probably give it a dl

I got it too but have not tried it. Its more of a quick launch app, rather than a full launcher I think.

That's a bit of a bummer for the preferred android plan, I switched over from a blackberry with preferred internet so maybe that's why I didn't have trouble? As for the $50 rebate, no I didn't have to do it. I ended up paying $250 for the phone and the credited $100 to my bill the next day. Wish the wirefly deal was around when I ordered, I had them pricematch Amazon's $150 at the time.

The only downside to buying a phone over the phone and not in a store is that exchanges can be a bit of a pain

Its no pain. If you buy it over phone from TMo or Verizon, you can then go to any of their retail stores and do everything else you need, from having them activate it to service and exchange.

Had a quick run through the SGS2 at a shop today... it really does put my O2X to shame :(

Homescreen transitions are just so bloody smooth, not on par with Apple (then again they're not dealing with active widgets), but close enough. Loading Angry Birds Rio did not take 2 seconds to find the files and show the splash screens, whereas it does on my O2X. I'm hoping it's a Froyo VS Gingerbread issue though - I also had a go at some of the Honeycomb tablets, Acer, Asus and Motorola offerings and I believe they're all using Tegra 2? Even at a higher resolution home panel transitions were silky smooth so yeah... hoping 2.3 brings along major performance improvements.

Anybody picking up the Nexus S on Sprint?

By all my calculations* this launch should eclipse the iphone 4 launch easily.

*I ever make a mistake, ever.

So, XDA forums has a bunch of posts on battery usage on 2.3 Gingerbread. Apparently, Android OS is taking up 30%+ more battery even when phone is on idle.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055164&page=28

I was going to pull the trigger too, but now I am going to wait a bit and see.

Is that specific to the Galaxy S II? I used Gingerbread for a while on the HTC Desire before I sold it and battery life was the same if not better than 2.2.3.

Got my girlfriend a ZTE Blade (running 2.2) yesterday, loaded up the Market and ims I am disappoint.

Such a lack of choice of apps (games in particular) and barely any free ones... I'm not sure what I was expecting but it certainly wasn't this. Hardly any trials/free/lite versions of games either so it's so hard to know where to begin.

Can anyone please recommend something similar to Tiny Wings & Dungeon Raid please? Don't fancy trying random ones that sound similar in case I buy them and they're crap.

Cheers

My Battery life certainly increased with Gingerbread and not decreased. Facebook lately (past month+) has killed most of the benefit lately. Keeping the phone from sleeping. Really is a POS app.

I don't know where else to ask, but is anyone else having trouble getting youtube videos to play on their phone. I've tried several random videos as well as most of the ones on the homepage and they all give the same error, "sorry this video cannot be played." I've updated to the most recent version of flash and tried it on wifi to see if sprint was behind it, but I'm still getting the same error.

Edit: nevermind. Rebooted the phone, now everything is fine. I should have known to do this sooner. How embarassing.

God, looking at a non-AMOLED display in pictures is painful now.

Very painful.
The Arc has poor viewing angles, but straight on, it's comparable, or even better, than AMOLED because of the Bravia Engine.

Anyone think that with the recent increase in google contact file size to 128kb we might finally see improved resolution/compression contact pictures? I sure hope so.

Wish Gameloft would fix their store and/or just offer their games on the Market like everyone else :/

Still being redirected to their "wapshop" site on my S2 despite the fact that I'm clearly on an Android phone. There seems no way to get to the Android site either - going through Google just redirects me again - obviously Gameloft thinks users are too stupid to pick the correct OS for their games...

It's even more strange that Samsung's "Game Hub" which is preloaded on the S2 features some Gameloft games in the Premium section, yet Gameloft can't get their own store to work on the phone.

God the Galaxy S2 needs to hurry the fuck up and come out on Verizon already.

TAKE MY MONEY DAMNIT.

I saw a Droid Charge the other day, which has the same screen. Sooooo sexy. The bad part is, my Captivate's screen just doesn't seem as amazing as before, now that I've seen the new screen. I'm SAMOLED+ or bust now with screens. Nothing else will do.
