I've never had that happened to any of my Android phones (N1, G2, Thunderbolt). Whenever I'm driving, I usually have my phone connected through the aux jack to my car stereo system.

Happens on my Thunderbolt (aux for my car sitting in car dock). Not sure if it is 100% of the time as I don't really pay attention, but I've noticed text sounds not coming through my car speakers.

The list of devices (not just phones - the tablet that they handed out at Google IO is also affected) in the original report that the bug report references is quite comprehensive.

Anyone have the Incredible 2? Was thinking about picking it up tomorrow and wondering if I should stay away or whatever. Don't want a 4g phone but I really need to upgrade from this 4 yo Razr.

If you don't care about LTE, its a solid phone. How the hell have you been getting by medical school without a smartphone?

What's the best way to change your device's CPU clock speed? I noticed yesterday that my phone was running just a little warmer than usual, so I downloaded an app called CPU gauge, and sure enough, the custom ROM I installed last week OC'ed the kernel to 1071Mhz versus the 800Mhz stock speed.

While I haven't noticed a major decrease in battery life, I'd still like to restore a lower clock speed in hopes that it'll improve, but I otherwise like the ROM I have at the moment.

Any twitter client that is better than the official one? And also has a widget that functions like a widget? The official app opens the app up when clicking on the widget.

Seesmic is my Twitter app of choice. Going from it to anything else is like going back in time due to not having picture previews in timeline. Tried Tweetdeck again last week and it's just so much slower and still missing picture previews. I don't get how no other apps are doing that yet (that I know of).

Im really stuck. I've read great, surprising things about the Charge. Great battery life, good camera, 4G LTE, great snappiness, solid Samsung phone with a beautiful screen and nice big clicky buttons at the bottom (something that actually really interests me instead of the soft buttons). I can get this little guy for $99. I'm really tickled pink by it because the dearth of information about the Samsung Galaxy S2... it really feels like months since I've heard about this thing in any relevant fashion to those of us on this side of Le Pond de Atlantique.

So samsung sent the developer who ported CM to SGS I a free SGS II so he can work on that port.

Dev tweeted about it, sorry can't find the link.

Awesome, now I want SGS II

What? Damn. OEMs should embrace the mod community like this more often.

I'd rather see these companies contributing code and not devices.

Call me cynical, but it seems Samsung is getting free bug testing on their hardware from thousands of real world users for a few hundred dollars and no liability.

ALL of CM's code goes up on github for free for anyone.

Unless there is CM code in TouchWiz, I don't see how this is getting free bug testing.

CM tweaks kernel, drivers, libraries, etc.

I mean, those guys will be doing that shit anyways, but now Samsung comes out like a champ for "supporting" CM.

Hey, can't say no to free hardware. But don't the kernels, drivers, etc need to be open sourced for the CM guys to be able and re-distribute them?

Nope, there's a grey area when it comes to redistributing those things to people who already own the devices since they technically are licensed to use those files.

I stand corrected. Forgot the whole issue with GAPPs, which is pretty much the same.

Meanwhile in America:

http://www.androidcentral.com/adt-plugin-eclipse-updated-visual-layout-editor

The ADT plugin for Eclipse, including the new visual layout editor, was updated and made available today. If you go back about a month or so to Google I/O, one of the most popular developer sessions was given by Tor Norbye and Xavier Ducrohet as they went over all the upcoming improvements to Android development tools, and when they talked about this one, the packed house cheered.

This does two things -- takes the time needed to hardcode the layout of an application and frees it to be used in better ways, and gives designers a unified set of tools to make beautiful apps.

Sounds like prettier/fancier UIs for apps are on their way.

I think I'm about to buy my first Android device, an Asus Transformer, but not knowing too much about it, I don't know if I should go 16 or 32 gig. I know it has a micro SD card slot but I also remember hearing that there are some restrictions on what you can have on the SD card slot vs the internal memory.

They've been doing both. Samsung has released source code for several of their android phones, pretty much all of their recent ones, I think.

As for other companies, Moto and HTC certainly have released source code for a number of their Android phones.

They've release kernel sources, because they have to.

I can only recall T-mobile releasing source for their own creations - Theme engine(awesome thing btw).

Ugh when the droid 3 getting released my wife is in dire need of a new phone but she has to have a keyboard. Every damn android phone is touch screen, WHERE DA KEYBOARD PHONES???

They're still releasing code, it's hardly accurate to say they're not doing both code and hardware contributions, regardless of the requirements. It's not like CM can't make use of the kernel source code, it's useful.

Last night I opened the browser. It was on some random page I don't even remember. I then went to bookmarks to load my web-based yahoo mail and this thing came up on the screen (hid the address bar, so I figured it might have been an OS thing that just finished downloading for all of a few moments and then I realized it wasn't something official (like an OTA update) so I e-mailed myself the link to my desktop machine.

I downloaded a screencap app (where you shake the phone to take a cap) and this is what I saw:

which took me to this suspicious link (I viewed on my desktop browser). I've been poking around and this app seems crazy. On the market for less than 7 days, over 250k downloads, talk about many people "accidentally" hitting some button charging them $10/month... I wonder how many people got that screen above, thought it was an official OTA update (much like the Windows Defender/fake desktop popups I see) and installed it. :(

Anyway... watch out for it. Could be malware. Thought I'd share with the rest of neogaf on this.

Oracle sure is persistent.

http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news/oracle-wants-to-murder-android-then-spit-on-its-grave/

Oracle — has come out of under the bridge once again to do what it does best: sue other companies. A new filing in the Oracle vs. Android lawsuit indicates that the company wants more money in damages than all the profit that Google has earned from the OS since it was released. Let me repeat that, greedy Oracle wants all the money that Google has made from Android.

Ad revenue.

I was just joking, but there's no way they would pull amounts from ad revenue. From what I'm reading this is a straight "you stole from me, pay me bitch" litigation. Ads are delivered to android, they're not integral business that came from android.

But Oracle could potentially kill/steal Android from Google. That's pretty wild.

The outcome of this trial is gonna be huge!

You should make a thread (unless you already did).

That 'loosing charge too fast!!' would have thrown up all sorts of red flags for me. Pretty crazy if people are actually getting charged.

My N1's power button is starting to go. Seems like a common problem. Fuck, I don't want a new phone just yet.

Dp

I do have to wait for the new iPhone, after all :D

just FYI ..thanks to chainfire ...riptide GP running just fine on the non tegra toating Galaxy S2

running super smooth on mine. muhaha

Hello android users, i am looking to get a new cellphone. I haven't had one for over 2 years now. Most of my friends have blackberrys or iphones, I want to try something different but I don't really have a good idea of the smartphone market. Can anyone give me some options as to android phones in Canada? A few I've been looking at here are the Google Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy, HTC Desire, and Sony Xperia Arc. Oh yea can anyone give me advice as to which carrier I should be going with? Thank you for any replies.

The best carrier really depends on your location, so the best thing to do is to ask around your area. Bell and Telus share their HSPA+ network so there isn't any technical difference between them, but Rogers' network is separate. In some areas (like mine), Bellus will have the better coverage, in others Rogers has the upper hand, but speeds with equal reception should be similar, given that they all use the same technology. All of them are currently building a 4G LTE network as well.

In terms of phones, it's really a question of preference. I'd advise against getting the HTC Desire unless you're on a budget constraint; that phone is over a year old, its hardware is outdated and the upcoming Gingerbread update is likely to be its last. I'd suggest looking at Bell's Incredible S or Telus' Desire HD if you want to go with an HTC. Same goes for the Galaxy S: the Galaxy S II is nearing release, and you could regret buying at this point. Do you plan on modding the phone with custom ROMs? If so, the Nexus S is the obvious choice and should last you a good while, but other options are available. HTC and Samsung are generally very modder-friendly, but avoid Motorola at all costs; everyone else is somewhere in between, depending on the individual device.

Overall though, you should know that this is a poor time to be buying a smartphone in Canada. Dual core smartphone are starting to be the standard in the US, yet in Canada the only one we have is the Motorola Atrix (Bell). More are definitely coming fairly soon, though, meaning any phone you buy now will be majorly outdated in a matter of weeks or a few months at best.
