Well if you can't use 4G, I would at least consider other carriers. AT&T/T-mobile may have 3.5G in your area which is a little bit faster than 3G and Sprint is the only carrier offering unlimited data although you may already be grandfathered into an unlimited plan with Verizon.

Looking only at 3G Verizon phones, the Droid 3 definitely looks like the best option at least for the next couple months as it has a dual-core CPU, nice keyboard, and it's a world-phone. Only downside is it's about $200 so it's much more expensive then the three 4G phones available on Verizon.

Ya I still have my unlimited plan with Verizon so I would like to keep that for sure. I am going to see what happens at the Samsung event at the end of the month.

yay i managed to update to 2.3 :D and seems like all my data is intact. what a marvellous victory for me. oh boy i wish this is at least a little bit smoother than 2.1... my Galaxy S was horribly slow with it.

Samsung can go fuck itself though. i chose my own language Finnish in Kies, yet some of the instructions were in Estonian (neighboring country)...

Glad you got it sorted out. Needing a computer to update a phone sounds like a hassle.

Hey guys,

I have a Samsung Galaxy Spica, and yesterday I chose to switch from Android 2.1 to Android 2.2 Cyanogenmod, following the steps of this video.

The installation went well, I recovered all my messages and applications and whatever via MyBackup Pro, but now I have a lot of unexpected troubles: the phone seems to be rather slow (but maybe I'm wrong), a lot of applications are acting weirdly, even if I do all the setup (the alarm does not ring, Winamp shows every music twice even if they're only once on my SD card...), but the most irritating is that almost every application bugs after a few seconds, and the phone asks me to wait a response or to force quiting.

It drove me mad, so I thought I should go back to 2.1, but since there are advantages to 2.2 Cyanogenmod, it would be great if someone here understands what is going on my phone, and it would be awesome if there is a solution. Thanks!

Oh and by the way, is there a good launcher different of PandaHome which has dockbars?

Any recommendations for a solid calendar widget?

-- And, dumb question, but is there something I need to do to sync Google Calendar with my phone? I updated some stuff on G calendar via desktop, don't see it updating on phone...

Business Calendar.

Make sure the sync settings are set properly:

Settings > Accounts & Sync > Pick an account -> tick on the calendar.

I use and have been using for a long time Agenda Widget. Highly customizable, but the menu system sucks for going through the settings.

Check your google account sync settings

Make sure Calendar is ticked.

First Kal El is Asus Transformer 2

Tegra 3 that is
It was supposed to show its face in August, but now it is crystal clear that Kal El has been slightly delayed for at least month or a bit more.

We got a confirmation from a multiple sources that first tablet based on a new quad core 40nm Tegra chip, codenamed Kal El is going to show its face inside of the Asus Transformer 2 tablet.

Asus transformer based on Tegra 2 was quite popular device as many users really liked the combination of a keyboard dock with an extra battery and a thin Tegra 2 tablet.

Jen Hsun Huang, Nvidia CEO said at the last conference call that despite its four cores, Kal El consumes less power than Tegra 2, and this is the case across the board in just about any work scenario. This is a huge step forward for Nvidia and Jensen also said that there are many companies who are currently working on Kal El designs.

There will be many tablets and at later date, most likely in Q1 2012, we will see phones based on quad core Kal El. According to Nvidia's Tegra roadmap, Kal El should have better computational power than Core 2 Duo.

Kal El based cellphones. Bonertown.

Has it been confirmed that the next Nexus is running on a TI chip?

does anyone else think 4.5" is just too dammed big?

For ICS (without hardware buttons) it should be perfect. Otherwise the phone gets rather big to accommodate for the hardware buttons.

That's a fair point, it's more about the fit in the hand than the screen size, and I'm biased coming from an OG droid which is a nice overall size. Is the thinking really that the next nexus will have no hardware buttons?

Anyone who missed out on the free nexus s promotion from best buy last week, sprint is offering it for 29.99 via their website. Good time to jump in if youre thinking about switching or due for an upgrade

Edit: looks like best buy is offering the nexus free again today only, as well as the atrix and fascinate

Yeah, ICS will move away from hardware buttons, it'll be like Honeycomb.

I hope they revamp that software keys. As I use it more each day, they feel more and more wrong.

I really really can't wait for opensource so I can throw CM on the transformer.

So you really can't sync two GMusic accounts simultaneously. You can't even hop between libraries.

If someone has figured a way, I would love to know how. Under sync settings, my secondary account doesn't show "sync music." I desynced my primary account, rebooted and went back and the menu option still wasn't there. Do I need to go to the website signed in as my secondary account and add my device somehow? I mean, there HAS to be a way.

It's a little buggy to get accounts/devices to be authorized/connected.

thanks again for the help. i'm noticing my Galaxy S is noticeably faster now which is great. not quite as smooth as i had hoped but oh well, any improvement is awesome.

i have a new small problem, but very annoying to me... on 2.1 i used to have website bookmarks on the homescreen, like NeoGAF and Last.fm, and they had a nice small logo of the website as an icon. but now on 2.3 they are just the lame default white star on a red background :/ any way to change them..?

Is it too much to ask for quick "radial" menus in all Tablet Apps?

I wouldn't mind having them pop up on the left side of the screen, specifically for the home, back, settings menu.

how do you mean? the location?

and i could 100% get behind the pop in radial menu as in the internet browser.

Maybe this has already been brough up, but I really have to recommend BrowserTexting.

You just install a tiny Android app and a Chrome extension (or you can use the BrowserTexting site instead of the extension), connect your phone by scanning a QR code (no need to sign up for anything), and you're all set to send and receive SMS messages from/to your phone remotely, right in your browser.

You get a notification in your browser when a new text arrives, and you can read and respond to it right there without having to pick up your phone (plus, you get to use your computer keyboard, which is always faster). All texts are sent and received by your phone as usual, the app just connects your phone to your browser. Contacts are also pulled from your phone to your browser. Everything is encrypted, so it's supposedly secure. Really convenient, and works great!

(No, I'm not in any way affiliated with the developers, I just think it's pretty great!)

Yeah, at the very least I'd like options to mirror the whole bar. I also think that space in the middle is a complete waste.

I'd like to see the scrolling recent apps list become a grid.

They so need to use quick controls on everything. That would alleviate my issues with the status bar to be honest. Swipe up and you have everything readily accessible.

Do it Duarte, do it!

quick controls would also bring back the dead space due to the bar, since nothing can go over it. I dont mind the scrolling recent apps list but god yes, i would vote for a swipe in quick control. It would also be infinitely more usable on a smaller phone screen

Why still all the bezel space at the bottom if it will not have buttons?

So I was trying to type a Design Document for a game on my tablet. (Acer a500, Honeycomb 3.1) And although I love the Thumb Keyboard, there seems to be a lot of lag and it's really messing up my typing.

So I decided to unplug my USB keyboard from the computer and plugged it into my tablet. Lo and behold, the thing works flawlessly. I didn't even had to configure or nothing. Just plugged it into the USB port on the side, and boom! Of course I have a Wireless keyboard that I bought for my iPad so I'm gonna try that and see if it works.(specifically) if there's no lag) If it does than the productivity usage for my tablet just shot up by ten folds.

I think he means no physcial buttons. I'm willing to bet a cheeseburger it'll have capacitive buttons.

yeah looks like soft buttons that glow? I dont think there is a need for that bezel space, unless itsjust a prototype and they haven't changed it

to center the screen and keep the screen proportions the same.

Capacitive buttons are in there though.

I agree. But if you are going to go ICS with no kind of buttons on the bezel, they should make the best of it. Either reduce the overall size of the phone or give it a bigger screen.

I was using CM 7.1.0 RC1 alpha4 on Spica. It worked better for me than CM 6 (apart from camera being unusable). But in the end I went back to custom rom 2.1.

Back in the WM days I loved SBSH's Pocket Breeze.
They made Android version of the agenda widget few days ago.

Capacitive buttons--the bane of modern phones.

I've got a DroidX and sometimes I wonder if capacitive buttons would be better. I worry about wearing out the menu and home buttons that are used all the time.

Just got the 2.3.4 update from Vodafone! Makes the phone much more responsive. Sense is like 10x faster as well. Awesome work HTC/Google! Now when's 2.4 coming out! :D

About the FC issue, have you tried rebooting the phone a couple of times? And also do the "Fix permissions" thing in ROM manager - that fixed any issues I had before.

Absolutely amazing. Using it right now, took all of 20 seconds to get set up. Cheers for this!
