I've been having issues with the Galaxy S2 recognising embeded album art (using Mp3tag), an app like Mixzing will have no problem but the default program will use another songs art if it on some songs. I prefer using the default music player cause it has lock screen and notification controls.

I had problems with mixed up album art when I just had .jpgs dumped in the album folders. Embedding the art is what fixed it for me...

wow for just $199???

How's about a 7-inch IPS (!) panel, Gorilla Glass coating, a dual-core CPU and a chassis that weighs 14.6 ounces. There's also access to things you'd expect to have access to: Android Appstore, Kindle books, magazines, etc. -- all stored for free via Amazon Cloud Storage. Per Jeff: "Delete it and get it back when you want." Oh, and Whispersync now works with movies and TV shows! "When you get home, switch to your big screen TV. Your movie will be right where you left it."

sold!!

Don't forget you can get a refub Nook Color for $150 now.

Unless the Kindle is 1280X800 resolution. Othervise its just a "very good" price, not "great" price. If it has a full SD card slot I will also upgrade it to a "great" price as well.

So there is no spec for the Kindle? Is it dual core?

edit: lol at the e-ink Kindle price. I am so glad I sold my Nook Touch last week.

We just know it's a dual core processor, but not sure what it's clocked at or what it is. That 7" IPS screen has to look pretty nice. Can't wait for some videos and detailed hands on impressions come in over the next couple of hours.

According to this chart on ThisIsMyNext, it has the OMAP4. They don't mention if it is 4430 or 4460, though, or what the clock speed is....

It's probably the 4430 since it seems the 4460 isn't ready yet.
Well, it doesn't ship for 6 weeks, so who knows, but yea, you're probably right. Also, given the price, one would think it isn't using REALLY high-end parts. Looks very nice though. I know quite a few people who this would be perfect for.

tino said:
OK, how fast can you overclock an OMAP4430?

Also very important, does it have a SD slot?

No SD card slot. Disappointing, given that it's only rocking 8GB internally. The focus is on cloud storage though.

Cool pricing for Fire. Lack of SD slot kills it for me though. Most likely 512M or less ram too I'd guess. It's excellent product but seems not so useful for potential custom rom.

No SD slot is extremely disappointing. Iam waiting for the Toshiba 7" or the Samsung 7.7", or huawei MediaPad if I want to be a cheap ass.

Why the fuck do I need to set up a CC before I can download a free app? How in the world do they expect to compete with Android Market? Deleting this bullshit amazon store off my GS2.

Because it's a discounted sale, not a free app. Set it up dude. They are always giving away free apps, it's worth it.

Just use a Test Card Number I use the American Express one for example and download free apps all the time.

MMaRsu said:
Did that, the amazon android app store is not yet available in your region.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck me.

Did you set your address to somewhere in the US? I use a New York address and it works fine here in Ireland.

the whole point of them offering free apps is to get people in the door and ready to buy stuff.

New Kindle
US - $79
UK - £89 ($123)

Kindle Fire
US - $199
UK - £ELEVENTY BILLION ENGLISH SHILLINGS*

*Probable price, if we ever decide to release it there.... peasants.

Some strange pricing there, shame as if there were some sort of parity the new Kindle would be in the realms of "Fuck It, I'll Have One" price.

Not sure about Kindle Fire. I mean, its not really an Android tablet is it, it's a glorified portal to Amazon's store. But then its $199.... again, in the FIIHO price rage.

Anyone?

Hey guys. I checked the OP before posting, but didn't notice what I was looking for.

I was wondering, can any of you recommend some reputable sites to get clean APKs from? The market doesn't recognize this particular device, so new apps, and updates are a no go from there. I've used Freeware Lovers before, but they don't always keep things as up to date as I'd like.

In the interest of clarity, this is nothing to do with piracy, or any warez nonsense, which is why I asked for reputable sites. I'm only looking for options to download free programs like the latest Firefox, since the Android Market refuses to recognize my device, despite it not being hacked, or flashed in anyway.

If this isn't the right thread for a question like this, can someone please let me know.

I use 3 solutions.
First, Amazon.

2nd, Mobilism (they are pretty booylegrific but the 3rd option is very complicated)

3rd: Download the free app to my HTC HD2 first; use Astro Explorer to back it up; use Dropbox to upload it; download it to my Galaxy Tab. I had to do this for Netflix and a stock trading app.

ANDROID TABLET QUESTION.

Is there a way to get an Apple Wireless keyboard to work with any of the Android tablets?

Are those keyboards Bluetooth? If so, and they're not some weird proprietary standard, you should be able to just fine. I use a Bluetooth keyboard with my Xoom all the time.

I tried to use my mom's iPad keyboard on my transformer, but it didn't work. A mac keyboard might be different, though.

There's a bunch. Those are three of the top of my head.

Pretty sure you can download the latest firefox directly from mozilla btw.

Ah, IIRC, they have the Fennec alphas on ftp, but standard build downloads redirect you to the Market. I'll take a look again, and try out those sites/steps both of you mentioned.

Thanks for the responses, Copernicus and tino.

I should mention I've only used the Amazon one, so if your device explodes from downloading something don't look at me. =D

Amazon Tablet isn't really an Android tablet. That's like calling TiVo a linux box.

Nah, because it runs Android apps from the Amazon Appstore. You can develop for the Android platform and still have your stuff full compatible with the Kindle Fire.

so the new HTC Amaze for T-Mobile with its 42Mbps speed, that's pretty awesome and all but what's the point? Doesn't T-Mobile start capping the download speed after you've reached 2 gigs of download data??? :\

Yes, but how often do you download over 2gigs of data in a month? Not many people go over 2 gigs. The most I've ever used in a month was barely 1 gig.

Its the fastest Android tablet on the market and its selling at 200 dollars with an IPS screen. Thay.s insanely aggressive any which way you try to spin it. Its going to outsell every other Android tablet combined in a matter of months.

? i missed the specs?

7" is too small, and running a phone OS is yawn worthy. We shall see, but looking at the old galaxy tab from Samsung, it will be great for amazon users, and wonderfully stretched phone apps.

i dont consider it an android tablet the same way i dont consider the old samsung galaxy tab an android tablet.

Has anybody else have trouble with setting wallpapers in honeycomb? I use the cropping thing to set it to what I want, but when it applies it, the wallpaper is offset from what I wanted in landscape mode.

Faster than Galaxy Tab 7.7? How?

This device reminds me of the Xiaomi phone. Its spec sheet is very impressive but a couple of serious missing pieces make them un-buyable. In the Xiaomi's case, its the 2010 screen.

I missed that, apologies, but an OMAP4 SOC is sure as hell a lot better than anything Tegra 2 based.

again all it is is a rehash of this wonderful product.

a phone os on a "tablet" isn't going to move the market in android's favor whatsoever. As far as most developers are concerned its just another soon to be outdated phone restricted to an app store that has less of a footprint then the regular one.
