Angry Joe Destiny 2 Review

Ok I don't know the sales figures ,but aren't they mainly free to play?

Anyway I don't hear many stories about them being massive games with huge concurrent online playerbase .

But there certainly MMOs from what I know . Cos I know the mechanics of an MMO. Look at those games , compare to destiny . Come back to me on the basics of what an MMO is

Destiny has MMO elements. It is in no way an MMO. The world isn't even connected, there is no crafting, there is no real reliant need for others to do content. Raids can be done with even less people than 6. Every one has been soloed. The newest one has been 4 manned in less than a week.

Think WoW.

40 man raids. 20 man raids. Trading, actual skill trees, talents, builds.

Destiny will never have any sense of actual community in the game. There are no servers. There are no cities. The only community that exists is on forums.

There is such a difference between what you think an MMO is and what Destiny is.

After the Halo 5 review thread where he had to personally come here and defend himself i think its safe to say hes just done with responding to anybody on gaf.

Same goes for The Order 1886, those two reviews really killed him here.

I dont blame him at all!

Destiny offers an illusion of MMO and community

This is sounding more and more like the reason why I stopped playing the first Destiny. I'm a PC gamer primarily, and for everything Destiny does, there's a game that does it better. Whether you think Destiny 2 is MMO Lite or just a looter shooter, there's full blown MMOs that do more and do them better, and for that matter there's even looter shooters & looter games that do certain aspects better (the most important ones imo). Even in PvP, sure it's fun for a little while, but it's not balanced at all and I'd just play something else. It's really hard to look for the reasons to pay $60 for this in addition to all the upcoming DLC.

The one thing that really got me was the microtransaction part. I play Path of Exile where they make basic loot look boring to give you incentive to spend money on cosmetics. Destiny 2 is doing the same thing here with their super gray, bland looking equipment. Path of Exile is a free to play game, Destiny 2 is an AAA $60 title. I don't mind cosmetic microtransactions in games, but when they make it so it works to the same standard as free to play games, there's an issue.

Really ? Illusion of comuntity ? Wow .
Just wow

Sure, you can perform things with people, lets say raids or whatever, but leveling together, explore things, having just long hours of chat, get in a party without really being together just to have a fast chatbox, long conversations in the guild which is in the game not like in an app for example, trading, auction, sending mail, even rp or marriage, those things are mmo community feel and destiny feels like a try of that

I'm gonna be devil's advocate for a second – what about the PC version? Because there's gonna be easier ways to communicate with others in social areas due to kb/m. Phantasy Star Online is considered an MMO which Destiny definitely got some inspiration from.

That being said, Phantasy Star games have been on both PC and Console.

Of course it's not as in depth as WOW , but it's a MMO lite , without a shadow of a doubt . Have no community ? LOL. Just no . Anyway , agree to disagree or whatever . Most game sites call destiny a MMO by the way so yeah, it's not just me

Dude he isn't wrong.

You're playing in a single player world with players fading in and out of it.

I am actually blown away that Destiny has the kind of community that it does. Reddit is the only real community the game has, and it's somehow huge, but by sheer luck. That community was self-made, not by Bungie, and definitely not by any systems the game has in place.

Bungie, the developer of Destiny, says that Destiny, the game that they created, is not an MMO.

There will be chat for PC (which is awesome), but it's very limited and not a standard chat system you would find in other MMOs.

Destiny's chat system is a system more like one in most PC shooters, for example Rainbow 6 Siege.

So, even being on PC the game wouldn't be an MMO. It would just have more of a social element than the console versions. It isn't about the platform, it's about what the game is.

This, however Im actually surprised that you took your time to reply to someone who is so defensive about a toy

Destiny does all of this . Sure you may have not have experienced this and sure the game doesn't exactly make it simple , but it's well known the Destiny community is very good , not as toxic etc as others . Raised millions for charity etc . This is not a cod commintity

Destiny has marriage?

Where.

It released a week ago . Lol 😂. Bad or not it's a MMO. Don't let destiny hurt your feelings

Destiny isn't a MMO, just a loot grinder similar to diablo, or is that also a mmo?

Its missing way too much of the community element from mmo's as well as the sheer scope and amount of stuff to do thats present in them.

6 out of 10? Unless you really hate shooters, I really can't fathom why you'd score it that low. It's so well-made and full of stuff to do..

Wait , WAT .

DC universe online Got 2 or 3 expansions
FF14 is the text-book exemple of a sucess story , especially since how it started. Both of those launched with a more stable structure than DESTINY did

The console excuse here , is complete bullshit , especially since the game ( destiny) is launching on PC

The Destiny fanboys in this thread are fuckin embarrassing.

They all seem to wonder why he gave the game the score he did, but none of 'em can be bothered to watch his 45(!) minute review where he explains this... Fuckin lol.

They called it a shared world shooter , didn't want to be stuck with the MMO shit against them. First game was garbage , they probably didn't know what it was anayway themselves .

And games communities don't get big without people lloving the game . D1 had 30 million registered players . Let that sink in for a while

As in large scale.

GAF obviously has a community, and so do other sites, but they are much smaller in scale.

The game itself has no community in game.

I am actually done with you. I have never seen so much ignorance.

Destiny being popular doesn't make it an MMO. I can't believe you discredit the developer for their own statement. The developer of the game didn't know what kind of game they were making? A game that've spent over half a decade making? Holy shit.

First of all, out of game community =/= in-game community, Reddit and events don't make a game an MMO. That's like saying Starcraft is an MMO because it has a community out of game.

What nails the coffin for me is the Diablo argument. I've played Diablo and Path of Exile, and honestly those games share a lot more in common with Destiny than MMOs. At the end of the day it's a looter shooter for me personally, it's okay if you see it as an MMO, but I get the feeling you might have less experience in that realm than some others.

Review is really well done. This coupled with watching KG streams has confirmed a lot of my concerns going into Destiny 2.

Surprised how much Bungie doubled down on the first game's issues. As a looter shooter fan, disappointed that the looter aspect is a step back from TTK, which was really only a small step forward.

Rami Ismail , game Dev , got married because of destiny . Google it

Now this is just sad.

I was talking about the expansive online segments of the game, in your life you will see something as big as an MMO feel to it in a game like destiny, not because you cant but because the game is not aimed to it.

MMO Lite or not, you dont have housing, clans, factions, chats in games, open world pvp, auction houses, mail, those things that make a MMO

Wanna get a looter shooter that does have a MMO feel to it?

Google it, if you are not busy re doing the same stuff all over again

Well you start with having a chat system in-game, along with worlds, zones, cities, meeting places. And don't say it can't be done on console because plenty of games prove otherwise.

Destiny has 2 incredibly small zones where you can meet a small group of others randomly instanced into your area.

Meanwhile let me hop onto FF14 and go to the nearest town, I'm sure I'll find at least 50+ people there.

Oh, you're comparing the community aspects in an loot-shooter that has mmo-like tendencies with that of a full dedicated MMO. Ok, lol. Expecting console Destiny to have a text chat function in it is pretty ridiculous.

Many of You guys fail to understand the defention of what an MMO is . Look it up. It's not rocket science .

Destiny is an MMO .lite for sure , but an MMO.

Maybe not your definition when you played years back or whatever , but yeah games industry it is

Destiny is not an MMO, it's a first person shooter RPG with some mild MMO stuff thrown in.

But what if I don't like the gunplay and third person aspect?
I mean, I played that game and didn't like it at all in the gameplay department.

I mean alt27 is doing that. So of course people are forced to do that when arguing with him.

I'm not sure what your industry standard is but there are proper MMOs in 2017 that exist like this.

Metal Gear Online 2 had a chat function back on PS3 in 2008, with controller or keyboard.

Guess what? It worked perfectly fine.

Guess what? Warframe has a chat function. Guess what? Warframe is on console.

Wow, so ridiculous.

It is okay, there are plenty of other games, proper MMOs at your disponsal

Oh, shit, didn't realise that because other games have it we should expect every other console game that wishes to be social to have it. How absurd.

I played Phantasy Star Universe in 2007 that had text function on Xbox 360.

Why not? There's lots of ways you can do it – attached keyboards to controllers, phone apps for chatting in game, plugging in a keyboard. It seems like a simple feature.

Half the reason why Destiny has a big community is because you still have to use forums, discord and reddit to make raid teams, like jeeze already.

That's waht turns me off buying destiny 2 more then anything else.

How are you expected to be social in a game where you can't talk to each other or anyone else. Mics are off by default, I've actually never heard anyone ever speak on mic in Destiny outside of a party chat. I have well over 500+ hours of playtime.

MGO 2 had chat ingame, it was in a console, in ps3. 8 years ago.
FFXIV has chat ingame, again, in ps3.
Multiple other games had a ingame chat, in last gen.

And yeah, no. Is not ridiculous to ask a game which has been called a "mmo lite" to have a proper tool to communication, I mean, what's a mmo without the social aspect of it?

A looter shooter, maybe?

This thread made me buy FFXIV, not even kidding.

FUCKING SAME

I was on the edge since I lost my account, but finding images to reply to these guys made me thirst over the housing aspect of the game lawwl

Destiny Roast 2

He's not wrong. Score should've been a 7 tho, seeing that have gave the first one a 6. It's definitely an improvement over D1.

It's also coming out years later. I think the same score is perfect, because it's better than D1 but also what D1 should have been to begin with.
