Rofl what are talking about?! What?! Do you complain about not having legendaries 7 hours into World of Warcraft. That is perhaps the most ridiculous assertion I have heard yet.
Yes if you are looking for a contained story based game Destiny is not for you. I could have told you that in a lot less than 45 minutes.
I'm like rereading what you're saying here because that makes literally no sense to me. "I more or less only care about story"....uh yeah so like I originally said his review is for people WHO EXPRESSLY DO NOT ENJOY THE DESIGN OF GAMES LIKE DESTINY. I don't go into NBA 2K thinking "I'm only playing up until the credits of the story mode". What?
It's a shared world game. That is how they work. You won't like Destiny. You wouldn't like The Division he'll you won't like Anthem either.
I think you misunderstood. Joe played the RAID for 7 hours and got two pieces of equipment as a reward (neither of which turned out to be useful). That'd be like saying "I played 7 hours of non-stop dungeoneering in WoW and got two gear". I have no idea where WoW is these days, but if that's the norm for WoW, I'd also say it's not very good.
The rest of your post, I agree with. I think most of my post was not really directed at you, per se, just the thread in general. I think I also would not enjoy Division or Anthem, and don't plan on purchasing either, certainly not day one. Although I did play Diablo 3, I never played it twice. But during my first playthrough I did enjoy the loot mechanics a bit (this was pre-RoS).
Getting back to the post, because the original premise of Destiny, or the original hype for some=, was of a strong story / campaign that could be played co-op with maybe some loot, it's reasonable for a review of the sequel to come back and say "Hey, did it live up to that original hype for Destiny 1? Still no." After this point, I think everyone will be basically on the same page moving forward -- Destiny is basically only about grinding the same missions over and over again for loot.
If NBA2k17 had said "we're going to have an expansive world with a lot of lore, we're going to have a great story campaign" and then got released with 15 minutes of cutscenes and no campaign, I think it'd be fair for reviews of NBA2k18 to say "Hey did it live up to the promise of story that many were hoping for in 2k17?"
There are a lot of OTHER reviews focusing on the loot or made by people who enjoyed Destiny 1. Joe didn't like Destiny 1 that much, neither did I. I valued seeing whether he thought Destiny 2 changed.
This is a terrible approach to a game that is clearly more than it's single player campaign. It's like playing Street Fighter for it's story mode and complaining about how unsatisfied you are.

Actually I had this more or less happen to me. I bought Street Fighter IV out of all the hype only to be extremely disappointed. Because a lot of people don't necessarily explain why they like a game or what they are looking for from the game. Just "10/10 will play for years" or "GOTY for sure".
It's mostly my fault for not doing more research, but frankly how many mainstream reviews of Street Fighter 4 are there from people who don't normally like fighting games? This is the niche Joe is filling in this case. He's warning people who don't like endless grind to stay away. Personally I'm glad, because it answers the questions I had about whether Destiny 2 (with all the positive reviews) might be worth jumping in as someone who did not like Destiny 1.
