Angry Joe Mortal Kombat X Review.

The Valve thing only happened like...yesterday or the day before.

You'd think we'd remember a bit longer with regards to being able to use our feedback to make changes in the industry.
I cannot imagine owning an Xbox One if they went with the original plan. 40 GB downloads for 900p games.

Anyways, good review. It is a good game bogged down by dumb DLC.

Great review.
Joe is an absolutely excellent reviewer, even though I don't really like his humour and I find his tastes kinda massified and unrefined. He's (almost) always spot on and fair and, more importantly, he's always on the consumer's side... which is something very, very rare nowadays. Really don't understand the hate.

I watch his reviews because his analysis and opinion tends to be measured and well thought out. It's just his manner of expressing said opinion which is irritating and so over the top it makes me wanna quit halfway.

Still, probably one of the best reviewers out there. He doesn't go easy on games and generally covers all the bases.

seems like a fair review of the game and a good score from joe at the end, don't forget he uses the entire 1-10 scale and not just the last 5.

Angry Joe isn't against DLC. He just doesn't like bad DLC practices. Practices like locking a complete and ready to play on day one character out of the game as a preorder incentive, and then charging $5 for people who didn't preorder.

The game is $60 and comes with 24 characters by default. Ignoring everything else included in the base game, if you divide $60 by 24, that's only $2.5 per character. But Goro is (and all subsequent Kombat pass characters are) $5.

What kind of sense does that make?
It's disingenuous to ignore everything else in the base game and then come to this conclusion, don't you think?

Almost spit my eggs out when he did the Cooking with Ermac joke! I agree with his Micro DLC stuff (doesn't bother me personally, but I do hate to even see it there to begin with), and the DLC stuff. Goro on-disc $5 unlock, etc. I don't agree with him about story mode. This is a trim the fat version of MK9's story mode. We didn't need 50 fights where characters on the same team fought when they disagreed with each other about where to go next. When I played MK9, there were many times I just wanted to get to the next story point, but instead I kept fighting characters in the same arena because they happened to walk in your path.

Good review over all. I always enjoy Joe.

dat ass on Takeda lol

Know what's more annoying than Angry Joe reviews? People coming into Angry Joe threads and shitting on Joe and his reviews. Please, if you don't like it, just stop watching and spare us with your own personal review of Angry Joe that no one gives a shit about.

to be fair the "koin reduction" patch was disproven weeks ago. this seems more like sensationalism than journalism.

Great review so far, but I wanted to say that these are easily some of his best skit segments yet. I'm lol'ing at all of them at my work desk. I think Other Joe is becoming the star of this video series. Lots of great comedy timing in this.

Easy fatalities have been in since atleast the PS1 versions. You have to activate a cheat code, but it's fun to use when you're just shooting the shit with someone.

Yeah, in online it's annoying though.

You can't use Kombat Kodes online anyways, so this is irrelevant

Why is there a thread for every new angry joe review? isnt that what review threads or for?

Im biased cause personally i just dont like his style, nothing against the guy.

I think Joe is mis-remembering MK9 a bit. It also had cut scenes/fight scenes that didn't get together. In a cut scene someone would be hardcore super man. Then get owned in a vs fight.

Sindel was probably the worst offender.

Heck not to mention the sheer brutality of a fight that made no difference in the following cut scene.

Though the funniest bit (to me) is that MK9 is the "Mortal Kombat Tournement! and these heroes are fighting these super evil baddies, and no one ever kills anyone after a fight. "Reptile just tried to murder me, better leave him here knocked out."

No actually the funniest part of 9 was when Jax gets his arms ripped off. Where are Sonya and Smoke? Just watching this happen? Apparently. Not to mention that if Ermac is that powerful why doesn't he do that to everyone?

Not sure if MKX has those nitpicks but I expcted Joe to mention them when talking about MK9.

You're on the internet.

I have this game but haven't even attempted to play it yet. The whole microtransactions for easy fatalities is such a turn off.

Why do people find him funny? Most games don't need to be ripped on as much as the old budget ones. It's better to complain about things people suffer over for years. This is like prasing new games on Spike TV game awards shows when no one got to even play.

Glad I watched this review even though I have no interest in MK. But to be honest, he's kinda sold me on it and I'm picking up the previous MK next time I'm at the store. Mostly just hearing about the fleshed out story mode which is something I've never seen in a fighting game before. And those fatalities really satisfy the gore hound in me. If I end up digging that I will probably pick X up some day as well.

Yeah, I can safely say I enjoy hearing him talk about just about anything. Dude is probably my favorite critic now and I rarely even play the same types of games he does.

Because people are allowed to like different things.

I know it's hard to grasp.
What does that have to do with their question? They asked "Why do they find him funny?" not "How can anyone find [insert explicative here] funny?"

Coming from someone who likes his stuff sometimes.

And this review was incredibly positive. I don't see many things being ripped here at all.

All they need to do is refer to every other Angry Joe thread where the same questions are asked and same complaints are made.

Just watched the whole thing.

I generally agree with Joe when it comes to bullshit anti-consumer tactics, but in this case I feel he's being a bit over-zealous. Not only are easy fatalities of absolutely zero consequence (since fatalities aren't typically difficult to perform anyways), but they're easily obtainable in the Krypt if you do happen to want them.

I wish he a done a bit more research about the patch that allegedly slowed the accrual of Koins - I can attest that after beating the story it took me more than an hour to spend all the Koins I'd earned, and that's not even counting the Koins you get for doing absolutely nothing like Faction payouts.

Regarding Goro, I'm kinda half with and half against him on this one. On one hand on-disc DLC is annoying, but on the other it's for a character who has zero bearing on the story - he is "extra" by default, and you shouldn't really feel like you have less of a game if you haven't bought him. He's a pre-order bonus and he's on-disc so that everyone can be on equal footing day one.

Agree with him on the annoying "buy me now" messages for bonus characters. It'd be fine if they were tucked away in a store menu option, but they have no place splashed across the main menu like that.

I knew Joe was gonna do this review and grabs to microtransactions drama because those DLC are not esssential or alter the game yet he goes directly to that topic and invest a good bunch of time and jokes in the review.

Some of them do alter the game though, an easy fatality? They're supposed to be a bit difficult for a reason, you have to have a certain pattern memorised or nearby.

Complained about everything. Said story was short, factions were crap. A lot of crying about microtransactions that no one is going to fall for. It's not like the game is flawed because they are not using his ideas. There is too much ripping on things that are more about cattering. I think reviews are weird anyway. Fighting games take years to master. Casual people that pay 5 dollars used for games usually have prejudice to this extreme. I think games are about winning and skill, but some people expect to be athletes for button mashing. The story and added content are just bonuses and are not the core experience, yet we judge games for that. Sad

He ripped into every thing, and largely got the micro transaction/DLC stuff out of the way. The jokes worked for me, and I thought he was more reserved on it than expected. Pretty fair review IMO.

But...he perpetuates the mistake of assuming several of those characters you fight against are "already finished with complete move sets". They're not, and it's pretty obvious that they're not. They borrow moves or use old ones, and there's a lot of repetition when you fight them.

Also disagree with his complaints about the story. I also like a good campaign in my fighting games but I rarely expect them to be more than a few hours long - 3-4 hours for MKX is perfectly serviceable. I think some characters in the campaign could have stood to have their own chapter (Mileena, Erron Black, Quan Chi), but there were others like Jax, Sonya, and Johnny that could have made way for the newer characters. So really if you looked to balance the campaign you'd be taking out about as much as you'd add.

He also said the fighting itself is the best it's ever been and gave the game a 8/10 which sounds about right.

Complaining about everything is not the same as a negative review. He still have the game an 8/10, fail to see how thats negative. Every point he makes is real, and worth mentioning. The short and weird story, the transactions in a full priced game at release and the PC version. All valid complaints, which did not detract THAT much from the final score.

Again he gave it an 8/10...
