Angry Joe No Man's Sky review

Havent even watched the review yet but i can safely say this is one of the more tolerable AngryJoe threads. I knew this review was coming and his livestream of the game was the most frustrating thing for him to experience probably.

Im glad the defense force has eased up a bit and realized that this game is missing a lot of content and is painfully mediocre.

Boggles my mind to not see interviewers pressure Hello Games for a response. It's incredible at how much this feels like an elaborate con

They wouldn't respond, they aren't required to either. I'm sure they're getting pressure, you just don't see it bc nothing is happening after said pressure.

That's what happens when you reach the center? I still havnt got very far but damn that kinda took the wind outa my sails for this game.

A great review. You can't argue with the clips showing what was promised and what was experienced. Can they patch all this content in? How long will it take? Should they have held off releasing it?

I'm still enjoying the game, but there's no way I will play it till the centre. The UI is a disaster.

Ok glad I watched this review before opening the game...returning the game tomorrow. So much stuff promised is not in the game which is a shame. I hate repetitive games and this seems like the perfect example of a repetitive game.

I like his quote:
The strongest, most potential filled average game.

Will be buying when it is patched and they deliver half the game Sean promised.

Even if you ignore all the dropped features, 5/10 reads a bit too high for everything negative that he said, honestly. I was expecting a 3/10 at most, since basically the only truly positive aspect that he mentioned is the sound design. The "potential" of the game colored Joe's opinion on it quite a bit, it seems...

Damn, im not about the whole NMS hate train and I like the game.. but he really hit the nail on the head here. I didnt know about the ending... but im glad I watched that video and found out.

Ugh, such a shame we don't have a method of accountability. After Aliens Colonial Marines and Pitchford still getting away with that it's honestly disgusting. This is just icing on the cake.

Did an amazing amount of work to put this together. Very good example of being critical and backing it up.

Do hope they get a patch together and fix this.

Thought it was a good review. I didn't even know the faction thing was gutted in the game. Just another thing to add to HG's plate.

I mean couldn't u just sell it or return it tho? Ig people have sued for less, however
Sony doesn't allow digital returns and their return policy when you try to work around it if by some miracle they take pity on you is "if you return we will blacklist this game from your console so you can't ever get it again"

Basically if you somehow manage to return the game Sony won't allow you to ever own it again.

Score seems about right, it's a pretty average game at the moment. Doesn't change the fact that I immensly enjoyed my 40-50 hours wirh the game, technical issues, repetition and all. However, now that I've done pretty much everything I wanted to do, the crashes make me not want to continue playing until everything is fixed :/

will this game FINALLY stop people from pre-ordering games?
No of course not. This was largely a gamble for many though. I don't tend to preorder games I know for fact comes from a developer I trust or I've been really anticipating and every preview has been good.

This was unfortunately done by the hype machine from Sony and Sean talking about features that ended up being cut out/never existed

that centre of the galaxy bullshit. even peak form molyneux isn't that garbage

The Molyneux Curiosity Cube reward and Godus fiasco was so ludicrous it was like he was trying to parody himself. I don't think anyone in the next 50 years of gaming will ever pull off anything like that again.

Not only that, Project Milo was the most blatantly bullshit thing I've ever seen put up on a screen as game footage - granted Xbox had the good sense to pull the plug but I was just laughing my ass off watching it. Only Molyneux would have run that demo.

They wont, because in doing so they would have to admit they were on the hype machine, selling the game on lies as much as Sean did. We only have seen "Let this serve as a lesson" articles from some bigger sites.

Either that or sites only covering the outrage while not taking much of a stand.

inb4 "why does he get his own thread"

Those questions are fully justified. AngryJoe gets his own thread for every review he does and for example a thread about CrowbCat's No Man's Sky video (which undoubtedly he put a lot of effort in and was also very popular) was closed. :)

If I spent 40 hours to reach that I would be livid. It's literally nothing at all.

I feel less disappointed with Federation Force's final boss when compared to this shit.

Hell, I'd gladly take an Atlas ball rolling around and fighting me until it dies and we all escape and the center of universe explodes into shrapnels that destroy closeby planets every time someone finishes the game, thus reducing the number of planets in the universe. A game with quadrillion planets, I would LOVE for some of them to blow the fuck up.

Please? Anything? No?

This game needs something, ANYTHING, where it feels like things can be changed because of what's at stake.

Metal Gear Solid V does this very simply but amazingly with the disarming or arming of Nukes. They are limited, but the number changes with every player working towards this goal. There's actually cutscene dedicated to the disarming of Nukes (if players reach it), but hey, Kojima PLANNED FOR IT.

These guys planned for LITERAL NOTHING.

It's the "grander idea of exploration." Expecting a reward for said exploration is selfish. The journey is all that matters.
Literally. There is nothing else.

I'd be fine with that ending if the
2nd galaxy
was something special, or if the journey was enjoyable. Preferably both. It's all just very tedious and mediocre.

My issue with the sentiment to temper expectations due to the dev team size is that this is a $60 game. IMO you don't get to play the indie dev card to avoid criticism if you're charging a AAA premium for your game. If NMS was a $20 early access title I could understand, but asking me to pay $60 for a game that feels like a prototype for what was in the trailers? No thanks.

Amazon customer support tends to be great. I would say you'll probably get the full price.

Exactly, there's no defending hello games OR SONY here. The only card they can play is the free DLC card.... and they already mentioned that significant DLC will probably be not for free so there's that too.

What a clusterfuck of a game. I'll get it when is up for 5e or part of a humble bundle or something.

I think I might end up attempting to get a refund on my digital psn copy. Even if it ends up completely blacklisted from my console I can always come back to it on pc if it ever gets so good it's worth coming back to it.

I know im late, but HOLY SHIT@ how many features this game does not have that were promised.

And that devs smug face when hes talking about it. wow. unbelievable.

What a disaster. And ive read he wont even comment on these things. Speechless

Like I mentioned in that refund woes thread, that's bullshit. I refunded it just to prove its bullshit. They don't blacklist it. Refund is an easy process.

Still love Joe Danger but damn I've no longer got any respect for Sean Murray or Hello Games despite their achievements procedural generation wise. Such bold-faced lying is just insulting to your customers.

Im glad the defense force has eased up a bit and realized that this game is missing a lot of content and is painfully mediocre.

Just your opinion, though? A game can still be a lot of fun even if it's light on content. And this game is just light on content, not barren like Destiny or anything.

Not enjoying the game is fine but stating it's "painfully mediocre" like it's a fact is foolish. Plenty of outlets gave it 8s and 9s.

dude this guy's corny

Yeah it's painful. I respect his opinions but detest his means.

What a disaster. And ive read he wont even comment on these things. Speechless

That's the real blow. If they just said "we downsized the game a lot due to technical difficulties, sorry everyone" (which happens to every game ever) it would have been forgotten quickly... But he hasn't. And he talked about ambitious features WAY too much before release. We know now that none of this stuff was locked down but he talked about it anyway. Really bad PR.

I still like the game, but yeah, bad stuff.

People should demand their money back. This game is only based on lies. Not only the interviews, but every gameplay trailer is complete bullshit.

inb4 "why does he get his own thread"

why does he get his own thread

Because posts like this are so much more on topic and helpful

but what does he dooooooooooo?

I'm always down with threads about his videos but now I do wonder why it's allowed when they locked the other thread about Crowbcat video of No Man's Sky (which was 10/10 by the way). Is it because it's a review?

A 5 still feels too high. It's honestly one of the worst games I've ever played and I've played a lot. Usually you can filter the trash quite easily but rarely one sneaks through :(

You can notice they still don't use the entire score scale, even if the situation now it's better than 8 years ago.
There are people like Jim Sterling who clearly didn't like the game: the crafting, the inventory management, the repetitive gameplay, the combat, the AI, the technical problems, etc etc... and they still gave the game a 5/10. It's seems is taboo to go lower than that for big names, and you can only give a 3 or a 4/10 to not hyped games.

Those questions are fully justified. AngryJoe gets his own thread for every review he does and for example a thread about CrowbCat's No Man's Sky video (which undoubtedly he put a lot of effort in and was also very popular) was closed. :)

That's a fair point(I'm sure it's been made earlier in the thread)

Almost halfway through the video and wow, the number of times that Hello Games lied about this game and the nature of the features they lied about is criminal. UNBELIEVABLE. I'm not from the US or a European country but isn't lying or falsely advertising a product grounds for a lawsuit or something?

Probably a little too much focus on "it's all lies" but it seems like a pretty good review. Game seems really limited to the point where it's not much of a game.

Personally I would have preferred two videos, one a pure review of what's in the box, and other about the game development and marketing/hype.

I defended this game and I have to say Joe is spot fucking on. I mean I can play it and i'm actually enjoying myself even if I'm doing the same thing over and over......but then CRAAAASH. I'm 43 yrs old and been a gamer since the Atari and Intellivision. This is by FAR the most disappointing game I've ever played in my life. As a Comp Sci grad I understand game development...and this is a No Mans Sky Pre-Alpha release that I've ever seen. Where is the game in those interviews? All just a tech demo? or Paid DLC to finish the game? I think I'm cutting my losses and trading the game in....and if I see Gaf speak highly of it 6 months or a year later, maybe i'll pick it back up.
