I'm pretty sure he buys mostly everything with his own money from the stuff he does on Youtube/Twitch.

1. It was working fine for those first six hours, according to the video. He had similar things happen with the Unity port where it was working fine for awhile and then issues started cropping up for him and his experience then matched everyone else's on PC. He had bought the PS4 version as well I guess just in case things actually did go wrong on PC. I think he buys both a console version and PC version of anything he's going to review to cater to his audience (who comprise of PC and console owners, not sure what percentage of his audience are PC though).

2. I believe he generally buys all DLC/Season Passes for games he reviews so he can inform his audience later whether the content is worth buying or not. I'm pretty sure he bought all the monsters and what not for Evolve for review purposes as well, for example, despite how against the DLC he was in the first place.

AFAIK that's specific to reviews, where the videos can just be posted and discussed in the main review thread or possibly the OT.

I don't think there's a blanket policy for topical videos from major YouTube figures. If the mods thing the video has no substance and is unlikely to inspire quality discussion, they'll lock a thread made about it.

Joe serves a purpose that is important in my eyes for the industry. He is as close to 100% accurate impressions as you'll get to an actual casual fan without actually having to go and find a bunch of them.

Is he often ill informed? Yes.
Does he do his research? Not enough.
Does he over react? Yes.

Does the casual consumer fit this criteria? Yes, but unlike Joe they do not post it. Gamers post in game boards and eventually get a deeper understanding of games due to this. This makes it hard to get a truelly casual perspective sometimes because folks end up losing that casual perception of games as they hang out here and on other boards.

Joe isn't someone I would go to for news, or to help me decide to buy a game as a gamer myself. Joe is, however, someone I would go to in order to get a raw unfiltered reaction from in response to an experience I made. I know he won't kiss my ass, nor will he act optimistically about what he played for my own benefit. This is something I respect pretty highly.

Joe has his finger on the pulse of casual consumers who purchase things in the gaming market and his persistence in voicing his reactions like this gives you an idea of how the average Joe would respond to a game.

I respect him for his honesty and for what his perspective represents to the industry in terms of markets. Everyone else who delved this deeply into making a channel popular focused on gaming eventually got deep into meta games, strategy, and other aspects of one genre or the next. Joe is here to have fun and talk about it. He isn't here to max out any game and it is what makes him valuable in my eyes.

If the season pass is great - he makes a video about it ($). If the season pass is horrible, he makes a video about it ($$$).

The longer he plays a (broken) game, the more material he has to work with ($$$$).
