Angryjoe plays Far Cry 4 - Impressions

Only a few things annoyed me about FC3 but I still enjoyed it and I'll also enjoy this. I doubt I'll really regret the pre-order

Really? That game bored me to tears. :/ FC3 was a step-up in game design, in my opinion.

Far Cry 2 wasn't perfect but it was at least trying some interesting ideas. Far Cry 3 to me felt like just Ubisoft Game: Tropical Island Edition.

Was hoping those mountains in the background were actually in the game, but the gyrocopter altitude limit has me worried.

Looks like more Far Cry 3 which doesn't interest me at all. I want more Far Cry 2 lol.

It being more like FC3 will be the reason I put down money for the game. FC3 was fun and I loved the hallucinogenic moments it had plus the cool loading screen music.

This is one of those games that makes me wish I had a PC to run it.

Yep same here, FC2 is one of my favourite FPS of last gen. I love that game, FC3....not so much. I don't think much of GAF would agree with us though :P

I must admit I did laugh at that video when Joe goes to the map screen and there's something like 4 fucking bars at the top of the screen.

Hopefully with this being the Dunia engine it should run much better on PC in comparison to some of Ubis other games.

I can't wait to fly around with the wingsuit. Characters look a bit more interesting too.

Agreed. They need a new formula. Watch_Dogs, Assassin's Creed and Far Cry all stick way too close to the original Assassin's Creed.

I am not that impressed. Hopefully story is good and will be worth picking up next year.

The game's a piece of gem on the PC. Also, Ubisoft's most well optimized game yet.

That it did, but I feel that's why AC2 is the best AC game in the series. The whole formula works once or twice within a series, but stagnates afterwards (especially when they bloat it with each following game). So unless they're really changing things up in Far Cry 4, I doubt I'm gonna enjoy it as much as 3.

Where's the QTEs?

I hope there ain't any of those awful QTE boss battles.

But I am interested... but my wallet is only thirsty for it on sale.

Definitely looks like Far Cry 3 with elephants. That's not necessarily a bad thing because Far Cry 3 was great, but like with most of Ubisoft's open world games, fatigue might set in quickly with Far Cry 4 because it uses much of the same formula so I may not enjoy it quite as much as Far Cry 3.

The thing that made me the happiest was near the beginning where he slid down the rock face and didn't lose 75% of his health.

It looks alright. I'll wait for a price drop though. I have enough shooters to play next month with Halo/CoD and I don't think I'll want to play another Ubi open world game for a while after I play Unity anyway.

PC version will be so sweet if the PS4 version looks this good already (some noticeable pop-up and stutter while driving though).

It was complete garbage. With Assassin's Creed and PoP 2008 is the game that originally ignited my fierce dislike for Ubisoft products.
I wouldn't really describe myself as a Far Cry 3 fan, but it still was a massive improvement.

Far Cry 2 was basically a crash course in fucking up standard FPS design as much as possible. Far Cry 3 was bloody excellent and I happily put money down for this because I can have my friend fly be around on a mini helicopter while I hunt rhinos with a grenade launcher.

I dont even mind that this is a lot like Far Cry 3...

But if they fuck up that Map Editor/Multiplyer again, I'll be inconsolable.

Disagree so much, FC3 was just pointless collection and xp systems with no soul, even by ubisoft standards it felt vapid. FC2 was full of interesting design and gameplay mechanics, sure it had some faults but it was engaging to play.

The story and characters seem absolutely insufferable, another game written to entertain 15 y.o's
We barely found out anything about the story in this video. And barely anything about the characters. What did the woman do that was "insufferable?"

Enjoyed the hell out of Far Cry 3 so I know I will enjoy this too. It is more or less Far Cry 3.5 and maybe if they had more than 2 years to develope this it could have some more new elements to it. The setting goes a long way though to make this really appealing to me. Now if only they'll know better than to **FAR CRY 3 SPOILERS!!!
kill the star character of the game midway through the campaign
, I'll be a happy camper.

A little bit of hyperbole mixed with kneejerk. I mean it's okay to not like the characters, but I think it's pretty fair to say that we haven't seen enough to condemn the characters so harshly.

Yep. The spoiler tag you have there ruined Far Cry 3's campaign for me. It was going so good too.

It looks like they took Far Cry 3, set it in the Himalayas and made it even better. Can't complain, as I loved the hell out of Far Cry 3. Pre-ordered it on PS4 last night and am good to go.

One of the things that annoyed me with FC3 is that they didn't pay any attention to the weather or the environmental sounds especially. It was missing environmental details that I loved so much. Things like the howling wind, the atmosphere of nighttime etc. Just completely absent of all sense of personality in FC3. I really didn't like the world of FC3 much at all.

Like what? Obsessive respawn? Bullet-sponge shirtless enemies? Snipers who kept track of your position from miles even through a dense forest? An astonishingly dull AI? Complete lack of diversity in terms of enemy types? Even less diversity in terms of mission types? "Intelligent" narrative premises like "No matter what faction you are working for, you'll kill everyone on sight cause you're undercover"?
It was embarrassing.
