God-tier thread. So many awesome looking recommendations. Subbed.

Have to second/third/whatever every mention of Tripples de Belleville (still need to see L'Illusioniste) and Satoshi Kun movies.

The Laws of Eternity. This film literally changed my life and it will change yours. I know others who have seen it would agree.

I have no idea what this is even about but I'm totally intrigued.

Also...this is hardly obscure but I really don't see it getting any love.

Secret of N.I.M.H. doesn't seem to get the rememberance that it deserves. It's such a fantastically dark story, which I suppose works against it since movies for kids now seem so much brighter and friendlier. The Black Cauldron, too, falls into the "scares the shit outta kids" category that seems to cause animated movies to fall off the map.

I second secret of N.I.M.H, though i much prefer the book.

The characters had a lot of charm, don't know why the critics shit on this one.

Also the movie "The Wild" that Madagascar rip off that at moments is funnier than it. That one again shines on the characters, they say silly quotable lines, and the wildebeests are hilarious

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

Not only was it one if not the best looking CGI movie i've seen but it was always a fun movie. Except that one song part, the one single song almost ruined it for me.

Me and my brothers wore this VHS out when we were young. It's LOTR animation from 1978. Excellent drawings and animation. I wasn't too keen on the modified FMV they had in from time to time though. I think they done it to save money.

Coraline. It wasn't a flop, but it did disappear from public consciousness quite quickly once it left the cinemas. It's a great family film in its own right and also served as a springboard for me to explore Neil Gaiman's other work.
Oh man, I freakin' love this movie, it's amazing.

Oh this is sooo true...very simple story beats, but it reminded me of kids adventure films from the 80s and 90s

Another great Guardian movie

The Wings of Honnêamise features some of the greatest work to ever come out of Japan's top animators, a phenomenal character driven story, and one of the best depictions of a space program ever put to film.

Nobody I've met has ever even heard of it.

Please, go watch it on Hulu.

(Thanks to Gaffer Naked Snake for this)

The two Batman the Animated Series movies and the Batman Beyond the Return of the Joker deserve to be seen by people who only watch the live action movies.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
GaHoole is a very very toned version of the book series iirc

And did the movie fail? It sets up for the sequel.

Currygan

at last, for christ's sake
I thought Kung-Fu Panda was a complete cheese fest and the duck/pig villagers were creepy and lifeless. The Panda said awesome all the time, which is kinda telling of the quality of the writing these films have.

KFP is kinda meh, has a really underwhelming final fight, and plot is absolutely paper thin, but Tai Lung's escape remains one of the most impressive action scenes I've seen in recent years, animated or not
