Yeah. Top 2 best anime of all time too.

The other one being Mushishi of course :D

But on a darker note I was going to recommend some that have already been mentioned : Paranoia Agent, Monster and Ergo Proxy.

Synopsis (spoilers for Ep 1):
Following the collapse of the world's economy, the gulf between the rich and poor deepens more than ever. Enter Tatsumi Saiga (center), an ex-war photographer who manages to infiltrate Tokyo's secret pleasure club, where the entirety of the social elite congregate to indulge in their sickest fantasies. The centerpiece of the orgy of perversion is Kagura Tennouzu (right) a girl who has the ability to awaken latent powers within those called Euphoria through a single kiss. These powers usually arise out of their obsessions and fetishes, and anyone who is not a Euphoria is instantly killed by Kagura's lips.

Saiga, when discovered, is brought before a hypnotized Kagura for execution, but when he miraculously regenerates his wounds it becomes obvious that he too, is a Euphoria. He gains the ability to destroy anything ihe takes a photo of, (as per Saiga's hard-on for photography) and uses this ability to escape. Cue self imposed quest to free Kagura of the club's manager Chouji Suitengu and destroy the lifeblood of Japan's ruling class.

Then there's "Three Men on the Rails" Where Kino, apparently just having watched Star Trek, decides to take the prime directive to dickish new levels.





Another good mystery one I forgot to mention before is Haibane Renmei. 13 episode show from the creator of Lain. The whole thing takes place in a mysterious town surrounded by a giant wall that no one can cross.

I watch a lot of anime, but every time I come in these threads, there are a bunch I havent' seen.

Code Geass starts soon!

It is. But I definitely didn't find it exploitative. Really, you could say the same for most war related fiction.

Everyone kept telling me it was amazing, that's probably the reason why I found it so underwhelming. I liked it, just not as much as I was expecting.

I don't get the Star Trek reference. Is the plot similar to an episode of Star Trek or something?

Star Trek has a non-interference rule, and Kino usually followed a similar philosophy.
 
I'm too lazy to start new thread so I will bring this one back to life.

Lately I have been watching anime shows from 80's and they are freaking good so I would like to see some more. Genre doesn't matter.

So far I have seen:

Kimagure Orange Road
Maison Ikkoku
Galaxy Express


And currently I'm watching touch and I like it too.

There might be some other series too that I have watched back in the days but I don't recall them right now.

EDIT: And my GF loves those love triangel animes like Kimagure so I would appreciate if someone could recommend something like that.
 
I hate Dark Anime...so I will tell you the ones I sort of stopped watching because they were too dark:

Elfen Lied
Speed Grapher


I enjoyed Death Note, but it's not as dark as the ones above, since I was able to finish it.

The point of the episode was to show the difference between the three men and the society where people don't do any work, not how Kino would react to their situation.

That's all at the top of my head; i'm sure there are more. Oh yeah, School Days. That shit was just creepy. i totally did not expect that type of ending.

I would like something that's funny and romantic. I'm not too much of a fan of Mech anime. It's not like I don't like them; its just I'm not in the mood for them atm.

I'm thinking of watching Speed Grapher and perhaps finishing Murder Princess ( I only saw the first too episodes, but there are like three or six aren't there?)

Anywho, I would really like to see something that is similar to Nana, H&C or School Rumble, but any other recommendations are greatly appreciated!
 
I'm really starting to dislike Death Note, it's just one one-up after another, constantly.

Although, I've only seen the English episodes so far, I think there's 4 or 5, of Code Geass and it's really enjoyable. Kinda weird flashing between battlezones and school, but pretty interesting stuff, plus the character designs remind me a lot of X.

Death Note is the classic example of an anime/manga having an incredibly creative or interesting story idea, then fucking it all up over and over with ridiculous narrative decisions.

The art of the manga is fucking incredible though.

Edit: I'm not a big fan of most supernatural/mystery type stories. But as for dark, well:
