Annoyed Gamer E3: How the Mighty Have Fallen

GOOD

I can't begin to tell you how obnoxious it is to see someone walking around in their filthy Pokemon pajamas when you are at a business event. Honestly, get that tasteless, classless bullshit out of here. The booth babes/costumers are bad enough, but they are part of the marketing at least. If you're traipsing around the LACC in a dirty onsie while others are trying to conduct business or at least not be a spectacle, you should be ashamed.

I agree completely. Not that I've ever been to E3, but there are just certain aspects of nerd culture that I cannot stand (this being one of them).

Good shit and agree completey. I'd love to know where them 8:1 preorders in favor of PS4 come from.

Sweet avatar because well it is Arthas :D

Now we have Angry Joe,Jim Sterling and Marcus on gaf. Adam sessler needs to get on board also and then there will be great debats.

First time I'd seen that Mattrick interview. Geoff actually looked kind of annoyed.

Anyway, great points made and some interesting info as well.

well having more money makes you more independent, not less. I have bigger issues with sony calling flower an indie
(in the psstore)

Sure, it gives you more independence. But showing your 'support to the indie community' by launching a couple of titles that have already made millions upon millions isn't very supportive.

Personally he should be called the "pretentious gamer" or the "entitled gamer" . He doesn't speak for a large majority of gamers.
First, his rant on E3 about having to wait on lines to play games and seeing young kids, etc... is ridiculous. I have been to EVERY E3. Even the crappy Atlanta ones and he is right the show goers have changed. As the internet has grown, more blogs and "news" websites have popped up allowing people to use them to get into the show. Yes there are more lines, but I have never had an issue getting in to seeing the games as I am a person that the show was intended for. Sorry you had to wait 20 minutes to play Knack. It must be very upsetting that you feel that you are so above everyone else that uou should not have to deal with crowds. The industry is bigger and so is the desire to get at what's new.

Second, his Microsoft rant I agree with in terms of tone. Don Mattrick stuck his foot into his mouth almost every time he opened it. Microsoft has a huge messaging problem right now. But, this war is by no means over. There is time to right the ship and there are ways to do it without changing their policies. If, and its a big if, they can show a benefit to their new policies to the end user they will succeed.
Marcus needs to remember that back in his atari days there was no buying and selling used games. In the NES days you could buy a used copy from your video store after no one rented it anymore. And Microsoft is not saying that they are getting rid of used games.
Bottom line. We as gamers are given a choice to purchase one or more of these consoles to enjoy the content that is provided by the publishers. Stop thinking we are entitled to anything other than the ability to make a decision to purchase a game and enjoy it. I don't see a game as a commodity that can be resold. I see it as an experience that I can enjoy over and over again if I want.
This is my opinion and I'm not saying it is anyone else's. But when marcus wants to be treated like a serious gaming journalist, and not just a guy who is famous for a schtick, he should look at the whole picture and not just try to pander to this forum.

I'm glad he brought up MS points expiring as that's been kind of swept under the rug compared to all of the other things MS has done lately.

It's a great point though, this is gaming's most professional event, not for cosplay.

No I agree. I just thought it was hilarious. Followed up by interaction with Parappa. I'm guessing that was a Sony employee underneath but funny regardless.

In MS defense...there aren't really any ball-grabbers (imo) for PS4 day one either.

Yeah, I was ready to head to the store the moment they opened to make a PS4 preorder, but if you're not into Killzone and already have a halfway decent gaming computer they really have nothing to offer right now. Hopefully TGS brings some launch surprises.

Knack and Drive Club seem pretty awesome too, but yeah the cross gen titles are gonna mean the move to new generation will take some time.

I dont know, i agree that Sony did not bring their monster devs (Naughty Dog, SSM, etc) to E3, but the fact that most of these games will likely have some legit issues on current consoles could be reason enough to upgrade for now. Ass Creed 3, Far Cry, etc dont hold up too great on the current consoles so that in itself is a good reason for an upgrade when Ass Creed IV, Watchdogs, and others will likely struggle just the same.

Plus most know that ND, SSM, MM and the rest will be bringing games sooner or later so for now that launch lineup that we know of is solid enough to warrent the investment(imo). Then early next year we will start getting more stuff like infamous.

I do wish they had shown actual gameplay for The Order, and Mad Max though because its hard to get excited for teaser trailers.

Notch agrees on the indie front.

He says this but then takes sacks of money to keep Minecraft on Xbox only ><

I'm talking mainly consoles and other competitive platforms. Put it on every platform you can man, I would buy it on at least 4 platforms if it was on them.

Until then, I think I may get this on 360.

He did say to someone who asked about a ps4 version that though he could not comment on any other platforms "paitence is a virute", and he was not sure if he was even allowed to say that. So its likely that a PS4 version is coming, he just cant talk about it.

Im wondering if he is the one who makes those exclusivity deals for Mojang, because some of the stuff hes saif makes it sound like hes no thrilled about being exclusive to MS.

Dunno why but this post made me think of:

Cheer up dude, without these disgusting man children we wouldn't have an industry to do business in.

Ouch. Bit of a jab at Edge in there?

Hey, if Edge can run an article citing sources saying that Sony is lying, he is ok to claim he has heard that the sources are making shit up.

If a few more of these guys called others out on stuff they might be a bit less willing to post random bullshit that they found under a rock.

Enjoyed the video, loved that when he said RROD the MS logo went red.

It's sad, really. XBLA was undeniably a positive thing for console games and microsoft became more and more cynical with it each year. The games got more expensive, they told people when they could launch, what their launch price would be... they only promoted the games they knew would sell 100s of thousands of units and sent the rest out to die.

It's a bummer. XBLA used to be amazing.
I do get the impression that what Sony and even Nintendo are doing is above and beyond what Microsoft ever offered, it's just Microsoft inadvertently offered an amazing outlet for smaller games that can't justify hitting retail, when they mainly meant that service to only ever house old arcade games or newer arcade-style games. Kind of a happy accident that rather truly take full advantage of they just kinda fucked up in the end. Story of the Xbox I suppose.

agree 100%
The real way to support indies is through self publushing, and well on thus front we all know who stands where

I wonder when this was shot because he states that Sony wasent definitive about their stance on DRM, but after the quotes from Tretton were clarified from the Geoff interview they have been pretty clear about not allowing DRM on disc based games.

No DRM, no Online passes, only Day 1 dlc allowed type of thing. Scott Rohde even made that clear in the verge interview, as have other Sony execs in various interviews. Gotta give Sony credit for standing their ground on this.

I love watching people in some kind of sought after 'glamour' industry who still are kind of in love with the fact that they work in that industry, overcompensate about just trying to get their job done. Music writers are just as bad.

TOS is read. Burned into my arm.

Seriously though, not here to pick fights, make silly comments etc. Just going to give my opinion now and then.

It was a good show, made some decent points. Mojang is indie but like Notch said theres different types of indies.

I actually hadn't watched him before and now went back and watched the last few. The worst things that could happen at E3 segment is funny in contrast to what happened.

Notch no longer considers Minecraft or Mojang indie, and hasn't for some time now.

The word "indie" really needs a more exact definition. Everyone seems to have their own slight variation of it.
It's all semantic. Same with AAA. Meaningless basically.
