Annoying concert behaviors....

lol. Wouldn't be a real thread unless someone said something like this.

Well, I am an American speaking to someone from Australia.

Which would probably explain why he's never heard someone yell "FREEBIRD" at a concert.

Any others from outside the states want to confirm?

Everybody wants to take a shitload of pictures at concerts and they end up never looking at them BECAUSE THEY FUCKING SUCK

And nobody cares about your shitty concert pictures either

NOBODY

I'm pretty forgiving of most behavior at concerts.

The things I really dont like:

- People who try and ruin other people's fun by telling them to sit down or be quiet or stop dancing or whatever. If you dont like that shit, go stand in the back and let others enjoy the damn show like they want you miserable bastard.

- People who throw things. "Hey here's a shoe on the ground. I should throw this." C'mon.

- People that get super drunk. Its ok if you're drunk, having a good time, whatever. But if you can barely stand up straight or are puking or something, its time for you to go sit down or leave or something.

So yea, only 2 of the things listed in the OP really bother me. The rest, I dont care for the most part. It doesn't affect me if you're filming the show or taking pictures with your phone. I dont care if you shout out requests or 'Freebird' or anything, even though its pretty pointless. Its just kind of concert tradition and people are really excited to hear their favorite songs. People talking to friends - its a concert! Its a music show, but also a huge social gathering at the same time. Its not like you can usually hear people talking that much anyways while music is playing.

How is people showing up late not on there?

People who want to arrive the second the headliner walks on stage instead of showing up on time like everyone else suck.

the absolute worst was when I went to a flaming lips show several years back and some card was loudly whining because the crowd wasn't signing along with the correct lyrics

Variant on #10 - standing when no one else does. You have a perfect view if you stay seated, and you don't fuck over the people behind you.

The proliferation of camera phones was interesting to see from the late 1990's to the mid-2000's - when I most frequently attended concerts. It's almost as if the concertgoing became something to be shared after the fact rather than an experience in and of itself. It's been repeated over and over in this thread, but for those of us who know what it was like beforehand it was amazing to witness the evolution in crowd behavior. It's probably a contributing factor to why it's taken me so long to buy a smart phone.

I always try to have a great time at concerts so I don't notice any of these things. Don't go out much due to pregnant wife and just life. Wonder if others are just standing there miserable, judging me from afar.

You remind of me of good guy greg and judging by your avatar you kinda look like him as well.

I like you.

I feel like an old man since I hate how everyone stands at a concert. I want to sit and watch in peace. It's been made worse with phones and shit since everyone is raising the shit into the air with bright ass screens distracting in the dark. My GF is also very short so she can't see shit often at a concert. Getting farther away tix usually helps but you get randomly stuck behind the one little group that wants to stand the entire time

Thought you were talking about the cell phone thing, my bad.

The opener almost always sucks... So no, I'm going to show up whenever I want to and you have no say in that.

And yes I will smoke the joints I bring and I will gladly share. Just don't slobber all over it.

All that other shit I don't care about. I've been to far too many concerts and festivals now that I've learned to cope with silliness. Unless its directly affecting my enjoyment do your thing. I'll be over there.

depends on the type of show.

7. Getting so drunk you puke.
6. Pushing your way to the front.

if you're a punk or garage show, you best believe both of these are required.

people using ipads are the worst.

Yelling out requests works for the few smaller shows I've been to. A couple of bands didn't really have a given set and you could tell so we just yelled what we wanted to hear.

Mosh pits
Pushing

Don't really care about other stuff. But the lack of civility and downright violent nature of concerts lately pisses me off. I normally head to the very front, but stick to the VERY left or right of the stage. It's usually the best spot, because singers are far more likely to physically interact with you when they make their rounds (Bullet For My Valentine, The Darkness, Trivium, Dream Theater, Foo Fighters are all ideal examples of this).

But I am guilty of shouting out song requests...only because 1) I end up getting the bands attention and talking to the band somehow 2) As a result of that...they usually play the song despite not being part of the setlist and the entire audience goes crazy. I love that fucking feeling.

Some of my most recent concerts have been seated (TOOL, Dream Theater, A Perfect Circle, Deftones/System of a Down and upcoming Coheed & Cambria show). I prefer front row seated concerts these days. I still stand up, but the preference is because I can arrive when the main event comes on, and step out for a drink or piss without losing my seat.

The headliner you paid to see was an opener at one point. "They will probably suck so I won't show up on time" is a terrible way of going about things. You're missing out on some great music.

Yep. The openers for most shows I've been to have been amazing and in some cases I enjoyed them more than the band I actually went to see.

#7 What if the band is getting that wasted also?
#6 is easily solved by simply not allowing people to push past you.
#5 People seriously need to stop doing this, it is not and never was funny.

Agreed, I have found many bands I never would have stumbled upon if it were not for opening acts.

Smartphones are dumb when people are just watching the whole show from them, but it doesn't really bother me as someone watching the show. It just looks like a shitload of lights. It can look kind of cool at huge shows.

Also I don't keep my phone out the whole time but I'll maybe snap a couple pics, and some have turned out really well.

There are somewhat annoying people at shows (drunk dude going "wooooooo!" every three seconds, drunk dude yelling for the band to play the hit single, etc) but if you are into the band and its a good venue the music will drown them all out and you can enjoy it.

People in movie theaters bug me way more because you can't escape and you can hear every kernel of popcorn that fucking asshole behind you is chewing on...

Who sits at concerts??

Who buys a seat at a concert, when standing only/general admission tickets are available, and then complains that people ask them to sit down?

I don't get it.. I always thought seats were for people who want to sit.. the floor is for people who don't..

If there is no floor or general admission I'd agree, expect to be standing.. otherwise.. don't buy the seat if you don't want to be surrounded by people who might have paid specifically for a seat.. so they could.. sit.

Doubtful, I'm pretty good at this.

I've been to many concerts over the years, and one of the only things that's ever bothered me was people thrashing violently while surfing. Just float dude, come on! I have been known to grab kickers by their britches and pull them to the ground and reciprocate. Not fond of catching a steel toe to the back of the head...

All the other stuff?! Meh, whatever. Abide by context at shows... Don't go to a Devin tha Dude concert and get pissed at people cheefin.

One any Scottish people I'm sure will agree with. When people break out into chants of "Here we, here we, here we f'n go". Arghhh.

Oh yeah. When the fuck did folk start doing this? Sure, it gets people amped during just before the band comes on stage but after each long pause between songs and before the encore too? come on.

Doubtful, I'm pretty good at this.

The type of person who would show up late to a concert doesn't strike me as the type who would research opening acts prior to the show.

It will bite you in the ass one day. Band orders can change at the last minute.

Both times I saw Sunn O))), there were people with their phones out the entire time trying to take photos or video.

Sunn O))) is totally obscured by fog at all times. Their sound is too loud to really record with a phone. And yet these people had their phones out the entire time, probably filming away.

Come on guys.

The worst concert experience I ever had was having a guy put his hands down the back of my pants and into my underwear. I immediately elbowed him and then kicked backward at his shin and he moved back away from me. Thinking about it now, I should've probably told security so he couldn't have done it to anyone else, but I was pretty young at the time.

Other than jerks like that, I hate people who smoke in the crowd. Especially if you're at the front where everyone's pushed up against one another and some dumbass thinks it's cool to hold a cigarette 2 inches from your face. Infuriating.

I'm actually going to a concert on Thursday. Small-ish venue so I'm going to try to get front row. Considering I'm 6'4'', I feel bad for the people behind me. Oh wait, no I don't LOLOLOL

There should be an app that concert organizers could set up so that professional photographers photos gets shared to everyone's phone who attends the concert. No need for everyone to take shitty pics. Kinda like how Google+ events picture stream works.

I'm someone who actually enjoys a good mosh pit, but only really for the smaller gigs. I've been in a lot over the years and I've noticed that when it's been in a stadium for something like Foo Fighters or Muse, I've actually got pretty hurt. For bands like Cancer Bats, Every time I die or Gallows, whose music are monumentally more insane, it's been a much more pleasant experience. I think it's more expected at those gigs and there's a lot less doucheiness going on. When you have a good crowd who know what they're doing and are all looking out for each other, it's really really fun.

I don't know if this has been said yet but when people make out right next to you.
I had this couple at a show last year who were practically having sex ON ME.
