Regarding walking around naked in the locker room: Who gives a fuck? Are you that insecure in your sexuality? Just look in another direction.
Regarding squat depth: Quarter squats are obviously pathetic. But not everyone can go ass to ground. Depending on body proportions, flexibility and hip bone structure, some people struggle to hit parallel. I'm one of these people. I can just go to parallel, but if I go any deeper I get the dreaded butt wink which puts my lower back in peril. Ass to ground is great if you have the body for it, as with correct technique the bounce you get at the bottom can actually make the lift easier. This requires you to drop down pretty quickly though which is not advisable unless you are experienced, as your form may suffer if you don't really know what you're doing.

Just curious: what's "ok" to do in a squat rack/smith machine? Squats, deadlifts?
In the power rack: barbell squats, rack pulls, barbell shoulder press, barbell lunges, barbell Bulgarian split squats, barbell bench press (if you're not there with someone you trust can spot you properly), pull-ups if there are no other options for that.
Smith machine: there is really no reason to be using this for anything. I mean, using it for squats, bench press or shoulder press isn't bad etiquette or anything, but should only be done if there are no other options as it has a negative impact on form. I guess you could use them for reverse bodyweight rows?
deadlift and back day is when i use gloves. No gloves for the rest. How the hell are your palms in tact doing deadlifts?
Gloves will negatively affect your deadlifts. They effectively make the bar thicker, which makes it harder to grip and reduces your grip strength. Sure, lifting without gloves will give you calluses; that's part of lifting.
My gym has this thingy bar where you can do chin, ups pull ups of all kinds and dips. I use it to do dips, and chin ups mostly.
Anyways, I was once doing weighted chin ups. I was doing five reps in each set, mostly because I'm fat and heavy and I have 25 lbs more on me with my dipping belt. This one guy was looking and walking around while I was doing that. Then he came and hardcore just looked at me standing there. I thought maybe he wanted to use the space.
He says to me "oh I just wanted to say good job on those. Especially in the last one." I said oh, okay, thanks.
Not really annoying but I was wondering if I was doing something wrong or wanted the space to do pull ups or dips or something. I don't like it when people are looking at me, especially when I'm doing something. It makes me uncomfortable.
It was also kind of random. I've had other people be like "hey good job!" and while it can be nice, I kind of feel it's unnecessary and can't help but wonder if I'm being mocked lol.
Dude, if you're fat and can do sets of five, while ADDING WEIGHT, that's seriously impressive. I can barely squeeze out four at bodyweight and I'm average weight.
Great thread! I've only been going for 3 months but shit that's annoyed me so far is:
- People hovering around you to try and hurry you up on a machine.
I mean, they may not do it to hurry you up. They may just want to make sure they'll get to use it first when you're finished.
Yeah, it's much more efficient for me and I prefer straight curl bars as well. I have clamps there, I have 2.5 lb plates that I went on an adventure all around to find when I got finished with my warm up. Squat -> overhead press -> bent over rows OR Squat -> shrugs -> curls and i'm moving on.
If you've gathered up all the 2.5 lb plates, I hope you let people use them when you're doing sets where you don't use them.
