Another Infamous: Second Son screenshot (offscreen) [Up: More Images]

Are they for real about RFG destruction

holy shit

That's what I want to know. Red Faction Guerilla is one of my all time favorite games because of the awesome destruction physics. The way I see it you will only be able to destroy those special military structures and not every single building in the game. :(

i'll try not to get too excited but its looks good nonetheless

Well we do have video of how it looks on the ground like the gif above your post, and the dual shock 4 infamous video where they show him absorbing the neon on a wet surface. It shows good reflections.

I'm starting to wonder if Gaf's frequent use of the word "douche" here, as it's applied to Delsin, is really a substitution for "handsome-ass-bastard-that-would-probably-get-more-ass-than-me-if-he-was-a-real-life-person-...-fucker!"

Lol I really don't get it. No one has been able to offer a valid example of how he looks "like a douche".

Looks more like a troubled youth than a douche. Daddy issues, gets picked on at school, does bad in class, everyone expect the worst from him. Now he has powers, and things are looking up! He's smiling again.

It's not Red Faction-level destruction. He's simply saying when you blow shit up, it looks just as pretty as Guerrilla did. Chill, people.

But yeah, love the colours.

yea probably thanks to the Sony ICE team. This studio was never really known for the graphics before. Sly 1, 2, 3 and Infamous 1, 2 and the Vampire add on all looked like ass technically. And now out of no where, they have blown all the Sony devs away :P

I may have agreed with you at one point but I played through both Infamous 1 and 2 recently. 2 was a huge step up from 1 in terms of graphics and effects. I think it also compared favorably to the PS3's other heavy hitters like Uncharted and Killzone if only because it was a big open world game compared to fairly linear affairs in the other two games.

Reminds me of what Watch Dogs was initially aiming for.

Yeah, before the PS2 became the lead platform...

I'll say what I did in the other thread: It's mindblowing how little attention from the press does this game get. It's pretty much the first real next gen game. And it looks so damn fine!

I agree; it seems to be getting little coverage compared to Killzone, Forza, Ryse et al.

The map reportedly not only has Seattle, but the outskirts of the city with forests and mountains, so this game is definitely going to be the biggest Infamous yet, by far!

This is also excellent news. I enjoyed the cities in the previous two games, but it definitely felt like they could have used some rural areas outside the city. If you get free-roaming in this a la San Andreas it'll be goddamn glorious.

Open world, surprising amount of destructable enviroment, best particle effects of next gen yet (well, aside for Resogun but that doesn't count!), top tier graphics that honestly to my eye rival Shadowfall...

Sucker Punch is giving ND ,GG and SSM a run for their money it seems. They need to really outdo themselves if they want to impress me after this.

I reckon this will be their most successful title yet and push them into the big time alongside ND, SSM, Polyphony etc.

Nice to hear about the destruction. That's one thing I'd love to see in more next-gen games!

I definitely agree; better AI and destructible environments are my two main desires from next gen. For what it's worth, I think the destruction in Second Son will be superficial structures, statues and that kind of thing rather than actual buildings as in Red Faction Guerilla. But I'm nonetheless happy to see any advancements in this area.

Posted in the wrong thread apparently. Repost

Super powers in that world, please be able to fly, run fast, and jump high! Off screen and small screen but still looks promising.

Nah, I liked the powers Cole had in Infamous 2; he felt fast and agile and capable without being overpowered. I don't think they need flight or super-speed, but high jumping and surviving big falls is a must. Infamous 2 was a joy to control between the grinding, ice jumps and gliding. I'd be more than satisfied with another set-up like that in Second Son.

So much pre-rendered footage being mistaken/misprepresented as in-game.

Here's a hint: If the character is either not on the screen, or looking into the camera from up close, it's almost certainly pre-render.

As far as I can tell, the physical destruction GIFs in this thread (from the E3 trailer) are the only gameplay footage we've seen.

[Bonus Hint: Pretty sure we haven't seen a single second of live-play footage from The Order: 1886.]

To think folks thought Sony 1st party would lose their edge working on an easier to develop for platform. Guerilla and Sucker Punch are killing it.

Yeah, it seems I was right about my prediction that the initial basework on newer GPU featuresets and a different CPU architecture might slow down the initial progress they made (which a couple of them have admitted to) but that they would make up the difference very quickly.

True but all of this stuff is real time and in engine. It might not be a perfect representation of gameplay but the differences between in engine and gameplay are getting smaller all the time.

People saying their going to give Naughty Dog and Santa Monica a run for its money. Are you for real, Santa Monica and Naughty Dog haven't shown their cards yet. Killzone Shadowfall looks great and is targeting 60fps for Multiplayer yet it is a say 1 launch title, and let's not also forget about The Order 1866. And I am sure Guerilla Games second studio is making a graphical showpiece as well. I think being a PS4 owner is going to be great, all their fist party studios have matured, and there is a lot of internal collaboration with Ice Team, XDEV and Santa Monica.

That's a pretty lame reflection technique. They're just using a simple reflection of what the player sees rather than what the actual world would reflect (which in this case would be the sky and very little of the road).

Heck, you can even see the player's HUD in the reflection (at the very end on top of the car).

Dat 60fps compromise.

So you think the Neon light absorption with the PS4 controller gif is not gameplay footage?

Sony has all of it's studios in great shape to churn out games on a steady basis next gen, especially with ND, GG, and SSM having extra teams now. I cannot wait.

Looking at this gif, it is clear the game is big on reflections. Since it is always raining in Seattle, they probably thought it would be great to have reflections all over the place.

And Sucker Punch never uses CG, they have never released CG for any of their games. They use real time graphics or comic book cut scenes

Its a cutscene.

That owl reflected in the frosted glass looks amazing!

One of my favourite times to be waking in the city is when it's been raining at night. There's just a giant shimmery relfection on everything.

They nailed it in this game.

It's really hard to believe that an open world game with the possibilities infamous has can look this good.
I hope the frame-rate holds up whenever you decide to go on a rampage.

Sorry man but that's a really silly thing to say. It's a shame people fail to appreciate the technical achievements in Infamous 2 and are unable to do a fair comparison between an open world game and a linear one. The guys at SP clearly know their tech and SS leaves no doubt that they are up there with the best studios. If ND or SSM had to deliver an open world game that allows you to create a massive amount of destruction with the press of a button with all the effects and physics calculations that involves within the first few months of the PS4's life, I seriously doubt it would look better than this.

the frame rate in the e3 build was great! No drops at all. I just hope they lock the FPS at 30. i didn't like the unlocked FPS in infamous 1 and 2

Out of interest, does anyone know if Sucker Punch built a new engine for this, or are just using the same one from Infamous 2, but turned up to 11?

Probably the same base engine with a new renderer and expanded featureset. That's what GG is doing for Shadow Fall and what ND is doing for their next game.

Diminishing returns guys! Nintendo fans told me so.

putting aside the fanboy wars for a moment, it is so remarkable to me how many people across the board keep putting their foot in their mouth about diminishing returns. This is first gen PS4 shit and it's already slaughtering every single title that came out this gen by leaps and bounds. By the end of the gen, only tears left for the diminishing returns set lol

People on this board were talking about diminishing returns back in 2005/2006. Hilarious, isn't it?

I think some of them may actually believe it, depending on what they value in visuals. I've always been someone who was in awe of little details and those things are getting dramatically better which is why I can see a bigger difference than most. Some people that just look at the whole image or have their TV set up on vivid mode with the sharpness and contrast at 100 will probably keep crying diminishing returns.

so, we're making new threads for single off screen screenshots now ?

*sees screenshot

Holy CRAP !

My thoughts exactly--I didn't think it was thread worthy until I saw the picture for myself.

edit: I honestly thought Infamous was one of the worst looking franchises of the current generation, but this is looking like one of the best. They've definitely stepped their game up.
