Another performance patch for FH3 is 'coming soon'

Good, I hope FM7 doesn't suffer the same fate.
If it's like Forza 6: Apex and this, it will. :/
Forza Apex is not at all similar to Forza Horizon 3's performance issues. Apex remains one of the best running titles be it DX12 in general or UWP specifically.

A decently capable CPU + GPU will allow for 4K fully/nearly max settings at 60fps or greater with few drops apart from rain and certain conditions. Horizon 3 struggles to have "a few drops" only as there are portions where the framerate simply plummets 10-15fps or greater.

Granted the linear nature of Forza Apex means naturally it won't have the challenges of a more open environment streaming game like Horizon 3, but let's not act as though the two are plagued with the same performance problems.

Is it just me? Does this post leave you with more questions than answers?

What issues are they referring to?
Which platform are they referring to?
Was there context to anything here?

I've read through the thread (mostly) and it seems I get a mix of PC people and console people all thinking it's something different.

I do get hitches maybe once every 4-5 hours that usually last 10 seconds and may be related to audio but I can't be certain.
I have more issues with Groove and wonder why it is needed if there are no radio hosts as I can use the music option on any game as it stands now. I suppose the benefit is the integration of audio to the game, which when I enter a Festival is "sorta" neat.
Or maybe I missed something entirely.

I'm not going to believe it until I see it. They haven't earned my trust yet.

Lots of people have stuttering issues with Apex and it has the exact same CPU usage issues as FH3. I can get 150+ FPS in Apex but it's still unplayable due to stuttering in certain situations.

Yeah but it's almost impossible to play the game at 60fps without massive and constant framerate drops, even if you have a 1070 or 1080. I'm playing at 30fps on my 1070 because it's the only way I can play the game with acceptable performance, which REALLY shouldn't be the case.

Lol what.

I've got it maxed at 1080p with 2xMSAA on my 970.

It's not a locked 60fps but it never goes lower than 50. Hitches occasionally down in the city areas but it's bearable.

Yes, but if you throw much more powerful graphics cards and CPUs in, you're still very likely to get exactly the same. Mostly 60 with jarring drops to ~50.

When I tried playing at 60fps it dropped to 50/40 fps constantly. And in Surfer's Paradise it sometimes drops even lower.

Changing the graphical settings doesn't help the framerate at all. Even on low with AA off I still got a ton of hitching.

I literally just bought a $400 graphics card so I could play games at 1080p60 without any issues. This type of performance for a brand new game really shouldn't be acceptable.

Why do people keep talking about Nvidia and HDR all the AMD RX cards support HDR

Because Nvidia is pushing studios to support HDR in PC games

AMD hasn't said anything along those lines

They're also working with Netflix, with their PlayReady 3.0 stuff (you can't currently view 4k, let alone HDR stuff because there are extra levels of security needed)

Another? Was there even one to begin with?
Yes, it was within the past week or so with many users reporting worse performance. Some people had stated that while they had very few problems and little perceivable hitches the update made that worse. Others have said it helped improve things for them.

The majority I've seen have either had lower end (and/or lower core) CPUs or memory compromised GPUs like the GTX 970, with the remainder being random and unidentified causes.

Forza Apex can easily use around 4GB VRAM in addition to some allocated system memory, but even with memory leakage issues I've never experienced unplayable conditions across a range of PCs I have. Disabling things like GameDVR on Nvidia and ULPS on AMD seems to have addressed many of the the identifiable gremlins.

By no means was I saying Apex was flawless, only that it's clearly better for most users than Horizon 3. Even on CPU usage while Apex can fully peg 2 or more cores the usage is more consistent than Horizon 3.

Oddly enough Horizon's intro and "optimizing for system" aspects have what appears to be better CPU usage than the game proper. As always YMMV, though even as a UWP title it's had better results across systems than many other DX12 titles.

Setting the game down for a bit to see what the next patch will bring. Starting out, things were pretty awesome and rock solid 60 all the way up to 4K (high/ultra). Getting to Surfers Paradise has been pretty rough and as much as I tried, this game isnt working for me forcing 30fps. Seems while at 30 I can throw whatever resolution or dsr setting at it, but nothing is working to keep a solid 60.

X1 still suffers from stuttering and high input lag.

Mine doesn't. I'm using an external 7200rpm drive though. The only thing I've noticed is a slight pause when finding a barn-find.

PC version is a stuttering mess though. Even at 30FPS, it's nowhere near as smooth as on Xbox.

I can't even log in to the Xbox app anymore, access denied for some reason. The weird thing is I can log in on my less powerful pc.

As usual, my luck.

I can get a solid 60 at just under 4K in free roam and yet there are races that tank the frame rate down to under 40 at 1080p, that's how messed up this game is.
