Another quality IGN article - 'Fake or Gay'

While at Captivate, I received Fran Mirabella's Mii in my Mii Plaza.

His Mii asked, "What do you think of me?"

I sat there, long and hard...and my brow furrowed over this decision.

As the seconds turned into minutes, and minutes turned into hours...

I finally replied with, "You're...okay...I guess."

I watched as Fran's Mii then slowly trotted away, eyes transfixed on the floor, his Mii looking dejected and mellon collie.

I pented my fingers, and the edge of my mouth slowly curled into a satisfied smile.

I have no idea.

If the use of terms like queer and poof is an attempt at slur-reappropriation then it has backfired for all the same reasons an article by a black guy talking about too many niggers online would have.

The writer is gay, no? At the very least it's a interesting examination into pop culture tropes, but it's probably more worth a blog post than a full blown article.
Dude, the word "gay" is the least of this article's problems.

So this guy actually set aside time to write this garbage? I know there's not much new gaming news to write about with E3 so close and all but come on.

GAF overreaction from anything that comes from IGN sometimes puzzles me.

The article is cleary a joke, maybe it should be treated as a "filler" of some sorts for the lack of news.

Don't take it too seriously guys, it's not like there's gay racism or something written all over the text.

Gay racism? Gacism?

I think they were trying to approach this in a positive way, ah right? It just was worded and structured poorly? Kinda lost interest early on with the whole Japanese style equals gay sentence.

Before anyone makes snarky comments, understand that the author of this is a Level 10 Editor. Which I'm sure means something in some parallel universe.

it's difficult to read an article like that which tries to be funny so hard but fails dismally. bad comedy writing, bad concept, nothing to say at all, and it really shouldn't have got through an editor and onto the site.

Say what you will about these IGN articles, but they always seems to find their way onto GAF. I'm sure that's the only thing these guys give a crap about.

Imagine getting paid to write stuff like this. It's a hard knock life.
Imagine the conference at the morning:
IGN Guy #1: "Hey I got this cool idea, we make an article in which we unveil secretly gay characters and unveil in the very same article that they are actually not gay, and best of all, we call it "Fake or Gay?"!

IGN Guy #2:"....dude. I just don't know..... WHERE YOU GET THIS AWESOME IDEAS!! GO FOR IT!" *brofist*

Yay, I get to use this image again!

Ok, go about your lives.

What exactly is the technical difference between "gay" and "queer"?
They both mean gay, but in terms of derivations, happy and peculiar would be more accurate. I think queer is more of a pejorative.

Pretty much.

You see, this kind of thing can be great for bringing all the backwards people out of the woodworks. It would have been much more effective if they took more popular characters like Nate Drake or Master Chief and questioned their sexuality. It would definitely get the comments section heated.

anyways, article isn't offensive, just pointless

These guys have it wrong. If Birdo is really a dude, then Yoshi is really a girl. How many male dinosaurs can lay eggs? Maybe Birdo is a dude that thinks he's a girl, and Yoshi is a girl that thinks she's a dude?

Consider me the referee for things related to gay gaming. For the gay readers who don't get the sports reference, consider me the judging panel from Project Runway, but for video games.

Because everyone knows all gays are limp wristed fairies who wouldn't know the first thing about these "sports."

I'm qualified to speak on such matters because I'm pretty much the Perez Hilton of IGN, minus the pink hair, bad attitude, and like 60 lbs.

"Maybe if we make enough stereotype jokes it'll come off as satire."

"Prehistoric poofs", huh.

IGN are jumping the gun talking about homosexuality. Most video games can't even do hetrosexuality right.

I don't have a problem with what the article is actually about and what they're aiming for it's just the introduction is smothered in stereotypes and I don't think it's smart to publish something like that.

It could've been executed a lot better.
