Another quality IGN article - 'Fake or Gay'

ciD_Vain said:
Again, did you read the article? There are some things said that are inappropriate for a professional videogame journalist to publish.

I think it should be pretty clear by now that IGN is not a professional (re quality and professionalism, obviously they get money for it) gaming site. There are better sites for reviews, actual news, and opinion articles.

Okay, so I only did a quick read of the article... but what's so bad about it?

Seriously, just seems like a lot of bitching because it's IGN rather than because of anything wrong with the actual article.

You ever notice how Mario's face is right on Yoshi's asshole when Yoshi goes blimp mode in Mario Galaxy?

Or maybe it's his egg hole

Ummm.. I'm not gay but isn't it offensive to be referred to as a poof or queer? And the joke about gay people not watching sports but watching project runway?
I mean I feel uncomfortable that this was published. Fair enough having an article (or series of them) focusing on gay or possibly gay videogame characters but the way this goes about it calling gays queers and poofs makes me uncomfortable.

Do you see the Wall Street Journal running this kind of article? Obviously gaming is a lot less serious than politics and economy, but still! Write articles about gaming news, not poor attempts at humor. Maybe they've run out of ideas for top ten lists.

This whole thing reminds me of Engadget and their mass exodus of editors due to the "AOL Way". Is this going to be the fate of every news site that gets large enough to be bought out?
Hmmm, I'm not familiar with that incident. What exactly happened and when?

You're right.

You've got to be fucking kidding me.
I was thinking the same thing.

... absolutely pathetic. Project Runway analogy? REALLY?!

Next up from IGN: An Analysis of "the blacks" and "the browns" in gaming.

I don't think IGN wants to be associated with the Wall Street Journal, nor should it. We're talking about games here; it's a pretty light hearted topic to fucking begin with.

This is beyond lowbrow. In light of Japan electing its first openly gay politician just recently also proves that the comments toward Japan are demonstrably false and insulting.

IGN just shot themselves in the foot...

This piece is a poor, misguided attempt at satire that fails in such a way that it actually comes off as offensive to some people, presumably the opposite of its intention. That's exactly what the worst satire ends up doing, and it deserves to be mocked with glee in its failed attempt.

He's in Persona 4 and to be honest, that's a HUGE spoiler.
Alright, no intention here of spoiling anyone's fun :) I really have to pick up Persona one day, never played it :(

I'm gay I didn't find it offensive. What's your guys' beef?

The author is obviuosly gay and the article is meant to be taked as tongue in cheek. It's silly and harmess. Are you guys really that bored?

EDIT: Just in case the author is not gay, I guess I would have to add my name to the OMGDRAMAOUTRAGE front since he has no business making such silly proclamations and attempting to make jokes on sexuality.

You have somehow accurately summarized every piece of IGN editorial content in the past 6 years in one short paragraph. Bravo.

I know its perhaps a little harsh, but I have not seen anything with an IGN tag that has been good since the site went commercial.

Didn't we just have this thread?

I'm referring to the "Why aren't professional game journalists 'professional'?" thread

Kanji isn't gay, he just likes his cute girls dressed like cute boys.

(I originally was going to say "reverse trap", but that probably isn't fair to Naoto's character.)

One of those guys looks like Ryu, what's going on here. IGN investigate!

Also what about Sonic, Kirby, Mario? We must now!!

Beyond a doubt Kirby is gay! he is pink! lololol. Gays dress in pink!
me too I can be an IGN 'journalist'!

I'm gay too and I didn't find it offensive either but yeah, it is pretty dumb. I can't believe I used to visit that site everyday when I was in HS for gaming news. D:
For the gay readers who don't get the sports reference, consider me the judging panel from Project Runway, but for video games.
Is he Michael Kors, Nina GarcĂa or Heidi Klum? You can't be all three!

Saying you are qualified and comparing yourself to Perez Hilton.........The dots will continue.....

Article sounds like some fangirl making slash pairings.

I always see people talking about how stupid IGN is but if you don't like it, don't post it here. I for one would never see an IGN article if people just wouldn't post these ridiculous "articles".

I'm gay too, but I think that the "outrage" is not about it being "offensive" (is not offensive) but that it's poorly written and doesn't even make sense. As I said earlier he could've added at least a few more examples or something. But he just chose those 2, to make an "article"... because it's Dinosaur Week at IGN.

If next week is Robot Week, what are they going to do? Post another one with ..2 robots that might or not be gay? :p

Why should you be offended if he was straight?
This piece is offensive because it's offensively stupid, the whole homosexuality of the writer or the characters is not even a factor why it's offensive.

Seriously if it was talking about food preference (which character is a secret vegan for example) it would be equally offensive.

And yeah I tried to use what they called reviews theses days in that shitpile and let's say I was actually better served in browsing the user reviews of gamefaqs.

IGN is worthless and pointless, the sooner it manages to put false rumour and get banned the better.

Fairly recent:

http://www.observer.com/2011/tech/aol-way-claims-another-victim-engadget-editor-paul-miller

Long story short: AOL has apparently been pressuring Engadget (and many of their other acquisitions) to put profits over quality journalism. Several senior editors quit in response, citing this as the reason.
Wow, yeah, I wasn't aware of this. That's terrible news indeed. This is exactly the type of issue that impedes the evolution of all blog-based news outlets. But hey, it's nothing new; it started plaguing the industry back in print's golden era, albeit in a different form.

Thanks for the link.

Why do people read IGN?

I mean it in all sincerity. If you post on GAF, you either get all your news here and even if you don't, there are all the news blogs that look better and don't divide their content up over several pages just for clicks.

"Consider me the referee for things related to gay gaming. For the gay readers who don't get the sports reference, consider me the judging panel from Project Runway, but for video games."

The worst fucking part. SMH. I'm glad I stopped reading IGN years ago.

Are you fucking kidding me? Stopped reading right there.
I think it was supposed to be a joke, but yeah I stopped reading there too.

Eh, it's not really offensive save the Project Runway comment which was just an unfunny joke.

It's just poorly written and... not funny.
