Smells like scam to me.

The reward for your donations are 'discounts' for a product with an unspecified price tag. The actual cost of the product is entirely dependent on how much hype she thinks she can generate, and if you are a sucker who is going to pay $100 for a 30% discount coupon, you are probably going to fall for it.

It's probably pretty related actually. If they aren't comfortable enough to wear all the time, it kind of reduces their effectiveness.

I meant unrelated our earlier quotings about how rape can happen even at less expected times, but it wasn't really clear.

These seem a touch paranoid, but we're a country that makes concealed carry holsters for female (and male) joggers, so it doesn't surprise me.

I'm just not getting the controversy myself. If a woman wanted to wear an actual chastity belt, who has any right to complain? It's her choice, that's kinda the point.

And it's not like they are saying all women should wear these in lieu of other preventative measures.
The complaints aren't about individuals choosing the product, it's about the existence of the product itself and why we live in a society where people feel that it's necessary to wear one (or take other "preventative measures" against being raped).

lol what? I like the "clubbing" part. Dont act like a slut, won't get treated like a slut. That simple.

Problem is some people think going out clubbing is slutty behaviour anyway, or at least means you're "on the prowl".

132 Randomly assigned positions...so if you have multiple pairs, you have to remember which pair you're wearing so you can actually get out of them. That could make things interesting.

Seems like a bit of an unrealistic expectation. Rape and murder are as old as humanity. There will always be some risk.

jesus christ being a woman must be terrifying.

Agreed.

I don't see how these shorts are going to help. An aggressive attacker would probably just beat the girl till she takes them off or something. Could end up aggravating the attack like some people have said. Might as well ask women to wear suits of armour or more layers of clothes. A piece of clothing is not going to deter anyone.

People need to remember that not every rapist is a homicidal maniac. If that were true, rape would be about as common as homicide, which is to say much less common than it is.

These kind of preventive measures are definitely going to be effective in a large number of cases. Arguing otherwise is similar to saying locking the door to your house isn't very helpful because a burglar can always bring a ladder and break a window.

Security is never 100% effective, it's about making it not worthwhile for the attacker. And the kicker here, as stated in the video, is that this is supported by evidence.

They do say
We read studies reviewing the statistics of resisting assault, whether by forceful or non-forceful means. We learned that resistance increases the chance of avoiding a completed rape without making the victim more likely to be physically injured. We concluded that an item of clothing that creates an effective barrier layer can allow women and girls to passively resist an attacker, in addition to any other form of resistance they may be able to carry out at the time of an assault.

and they link to here. I haven't taken the time to read the pdf, though.

Seriously this, it seems rather pointless to me, the only thing working on as barrier between the aggressor and its objective its a thin piece of cloth that can be easily cut with a knife, as bad as it may sounds, it could lead to a far worse outcome :/.

Congrats, you're a fucking monster. I feel bad for the girls that you've known that have "acted like a slut" since they've been "treated like a slut."

You're assuming an aggressive attacker whereas studies show that the most common attackers are people that the victim knows. I imagine (though I haven't looked at the studies) that most rapes occur when the woman is inebriated/drugged/incapacitated in some fashion. It seems like this could help in those situations as a last defense mechanism. It obviously won't help for the situation where the dad is guilttripping the daughter or the guy with the gun has it up to his victim's head.

Clubs are full of horny people in general. I think all women should be strapped with ak-47's when they go in. It's crazy in there.

It seems like a good enough idea, but it's weird to think that some woman might be choosing her outfit for the night and suddenly think, "Oh I might get raped at the place I'm going to, so I'll put these on underneath!"

So basically there will now be cases of women being trapped in their underwear?

What happens if you forget your clock combination?

This seems like it's going to frustrate the hell out of the user quite often too

Imagine most users would forget to do the thigh locks everytime

More options are always a good thing though

Do they make these for guys? No? Wow.

Wouldn't look good.

It kind of reminds me of that South Park gag where Cartman wants the special laundry detergent to get blood off his underwear from when he eats Chipotle, but refuses to stop eating it.

If it saves people from getting raped then it's worth it, but the premise just seems weird. "Do you love going out into sketchy bars and inebriating yourself around horny men, but are scared of getting raped?" Instead of papering over the cracks why not just avoid the sketchy situations to begin with. Clubbing sucks ass anyway.

Just no, so much no with this comparison and sentiment

Why can't women go to clubs, bars if they want to without having to accept the risk of rape now?

Please do explain to me in detail how it's the womens fault

Because the situations aren't always sketchy (like the first date thing they mentioned), and a girl going clubbing doesn't entitle someone to rape her even if they are drunk and horny?

He's just talking about risk assessment. Risk factor goes up for many a scenario. My risk of getting drowned goes up when I have a pool in the back yard, I risk harm going into a seedy neighborhood at night that i'm not from. The risk of rape goes up when you go clubbing, and bar hopping in certain areas.

edit: Holy shit at the "entitled to rape" comment. Stop putting words into peoples mouths. You can argue without going dirty politician style on someone.
