The minimum I believe is $500 for a good bed, however what are the options if your going to go lower than that ?

I'm going to be moving in with my parents and most likely share a room with my brother. Something like a Twin or a full would be good.I have been looking at guest beds from Amazon and they all seem to be bad in one way or another.

Less than $500
Twin or Full size

So what would you recommend?

I have an ikea twin sized mattress that is $200 after I moved out on my own. I can definitely feel my sleep quality is worse on this one than on my more expensive mattress at my parents' house. However, after a while, my body gets used to it and I sleep better.

How long are you staying home?

Ikea beds and mattresses have come a long way. I love my 300$ Ikea mattress a lot more than the 2000$ Tempur mattress I slept on for a year before that.

But then again, sleep and comfort are very personal things.

A couple of months

How about this?

Amazon has XXL Fuf for $179.00: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0055DXL08/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Sure, it's not a bed but it's quite cheap and seems comfortable.

Beds are something you have to try yourself before buying. I went mattress shopping myself a few months back myself and found a few with great online reviews.. but were horrible trying them out at the store. Had my eyes on these fancy pillowtops but discovered I hated them in person and that I sleep best on extra firms.. Anyhow OP, I'd recommend you wait for a big sale at a physical store and go test em out yourself. Also keep in mind that twins and full sized mattresses are more meant for children and shorter people.. I'm 5'8, hardly tall at all and I have to sleep a lil diagonally on my full so my feet don't hang over the edge at times. They're 75 inches in length but add the pillow and my toes are always touching the edge.

Which Ikea bed was it ?

I'm actually not sure, browsing the site now. It's a foam mattress, at least.

I just went there and I lied down a bunch and checked which mattresses felt right. They have boxsprings, memory foam or regular foam mattresses in all price ranges, basically. Just go and try them out for a bit.

I agree with this. I picked up a memory foam Ikea mattress and frame and it was great. Took about a week to adjust from box spring but after that it was smooth sleeping until I broke the frame :/

I agree with this about trying out the mattress first. Go to a furniture store or Ikea and just try them all out.

3) It's impossible to comparison shop. The manufacturer's can, and often do, "label" the exact same bed with a different cover and name for two stores in the same market area.
7) There are limited sources online to understand the build of a mattress. Therefore consumers have no idea what they are sleeping on. Most people could not imagine a visual of what it would look like if they sliced their bed open.

I don't think price is a very good way to determine "good"ness. Try them out. Pray for the best.

People don't seem to know what they want or what is best. Firm/soft? Half of Asia sleeps on the floor. Who is right? Who is wrong?

Casper Madrases keeps getting a lot of endorsement from many of the podcasts I listen to. They sound awesome.

I have an Ikea. I don't know what Madras, but the frame is a Malm. I Sleep well in it, but the problem with it is that it creaks and I cannot make it stuck. I've tried tightening it with screws all over, but nothing seems to work.

seems casper mattress offers 0% interest for 6 months, maybe not bad

I bought a queen size memory foam matress for $300 shipped from Amazon. It's as comfortable as the $1000 memory foam mattress I bought 8 years ago. I can find a link if you're interested.

Maybe i'll just get something cheap from Amazon as well. No point in going $500 for something especially since I have no idea how long i'll stay there .

I bought a full size bed unfer $400 a few years back and got a free frame with it. I needed the frame and box spring as well as a mattress. We also had a uhaul from the move, so I was able to do my own pick up.

You can always haggle the price. But go and lay down on several beds. Don't go by name alone, compare on feel.

I went through several mattresses over the past 2 and a half years and what I ended up most happy with was the cheapest solution.

I tried a couple memory foam mattresses including a Tuft & Needle and I've concluded that memory foam just isn't for me. Not firm enough.

What I ended up doing was getting a really firm (maybe 9/10 on the firmness scale) mattress off of Amazon on sale for something like $150, and a really nice 4" gel+fluffy-pad mattress topper, also on sale for $150 I think. My only complaint is it can get a little warm for my taste because of the "cool" gel portion of the mattress pad which still absorbs a little heat, but it's really comfortable for what was essentially a $300 bed.

I found what I got:
mattress
mattress topper

With the money I saved I even got an inexpensive but pretty nice looking metal frame, so I finally have a real bed instead of just a mattress on the floor.

Did you save money going through several mattresses though?

If you go to IKEA avoid the jomna, hasvag, malfors, moshult, minnesund, and meistervik. Morgedal firm has a very decent price if you like a very solid mattress.

I have the Morgedal firm. I'd probably feel a bit better with a mattress topper though.

This, OP: Signature Sleep Memoir 12-Inch Memory Foam Mattress with CertiPUR-US Certified Foam, Queen. Available in Multiple Sizes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005A4OO80/?tag=neogaf0e-20

We have one and its every bit as comfy and durable as the $2000 posturepedic one in the master bedroom.

No need to brave Ikea. Or you're to your car roof. Shows up in disturbingly small box right on your doorstep.

And its unfolding and expansion is magical to behold.

Pair with any box spring or base and you're golden.

Aside from the first one I got 2 and a half years ago, which I ended up selling for a decent amount, yes. I returned them all within the returnable timeframe.

The second one I got which was a spring mattress I probably would have kept had it not begun to sink in way too much for a relatively new mattress.

My friend gives me endless shit for going through so may mattress like I'm some sort of delicate princess, but I have sleep problems, back problems when I sleep on shitty mattresses, and considering you spend a third of your life in bed and you have no way of telling how well you'll sleep on a mattress from lying on it for five minutes in a store, I don't think there's anything unreasonable about going through so many mattresses.

I also didn't have a sense for how firm of a mattress I really wanted until my second-to-last one, the Tuft & Needle. A nice firm mattress with a few inches of cushion on top to relieve pressure points and so you can't fee the springs is just perfect.

Stop by a mattresses store and try the beds, find one that you like.

Then look in the clearance section to see if they have that particular model. Sometimes you can get a great deal on one that was returned or is marked down due to something like the stitches being wrong.

I got my Queen about $200 cheaper then a new one just because it was a return.

A bed isn't something you want to try to save money on, it will bite you in the ass in the long run.

Basic beds are comfortable to me. I'm not hard to please. Although I would, one day, like to own a nice mattress.

Then again, I sleep on a couch most nights and could also sleep on a futon without much in the way of complaints.
