Any good Cthulhu horror movies?

They've been mentioned but Lucio Fulci's City of the Living Dead and The Beyond are considered to be part of the Cthulhu mythos. They're both apocalyptic horror films with overt references to Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos (City of the Living Dead being set in a town named Dunwich and The Beyond having a book called The Book Of Eibon being an integral part of the plot). Highly recommended films for horror fans.

Just watched The Cabin in the Woods on Netflix. It sures fits the criteria of Cthulhu mytjos, but I did not fins it very good. Specially the near ending. Some good moments, but overall a no-no.

Should have watched it in cinema.

Everyone screaming "Press the red button" was priceless.

that was my exactly problem with the ending. Too silly to have a single "red" button to release all emprisioned creatures at once, with nothing else to control it (considering that they were doing that for decades). There were some other weak points but that one was the breaking point for me.

I didnt had a problem with it. It was basically for delivering a nerdgasm moment. Seeing all those creatures in action instead in boxes was awesome. Dont think about realism in horror movies. Or else you will never have fun with those.

Wow. WOW. Just watched The Borderlands.

No Lovecraft fan should miss this. Unbelievable. Flawlessly constructed; creative, understated, and utterly horrific.

Edit: I strongly advise you don't watch the trailer. Go in blind.

this is sort of how i felt about it. it didn't really play with the genre at all and i felt like

it did not "earn" it's supposed emotional payoff at the end. i never bought that Louise loved Evan, even though they had on screen chemistry together. she lived through 2000 years and plain jane Evan is the guy who makes her fall in love?

I completeley agree with the spoiler text. But that aside, I thought it did what it was trying to do absolutely perfectly. I just didn't love what it was doing. The weird element could have been any classic creature, and the movie would be identical. I wanted much more focus to be on that aspect of the film. As it was, that facet just felt like the thinnest piecrust of justification, filled with an excess of red herring, on which to serve the rest of the plot.

Just watched the trailer for The Borderlands/Final Prayer on RT: I'd advise you to skip it. It's not spoilery, but it gives too much away, and innacurately represents the film's tone.

Just go in blind and enjoy the ride.

Hmm that movie didnt do much for me, maybe i should rewatch it. was years ago when i saw it.

It depends what you want from a Lovecraft flick. It won't give you your fix if you're after a tentacle monster movie, but it should be your first stop if you want a Lovecraft adaptation that conveys the psycological horror of his writing. It nails that sense of isolation, paranoia, and irrelevance of humanity in the face of the horrors of the cosmos. Superb ending.

Did anyone mention The Midnight Meat Train?

Also, I just watched AM1200 based on the recommendations here. That could have done with being another hour long. It had a great buildup.

Right? It's great as is, but I'd be very excited to see a version stretched to feature length. I wanted more of everything.

I liked the Psycho-esque build up. Combined with the rest of the movie it definitely feels like there's a good story left untold there.

The Mist and in the Mouth of Madness were two of the most fantastic movies of this kind.

Karak delivers, as always. I must agree, Mist and In the Mouth of Madness are two of the best Lovecraftian movies I know. Theoretically Prince of Darkness falls into this category alongside The Thing since they are part of the Apocalypse trilogy with the third being In the Mouth of Madness.

I didn't like it at all. Too much pointless violence.
