Any new Rumors about Destiny 2?

Destiny was announced at E3 2013 and then released in fall 2014. I'd be very surprised if Destiny 2 was announced and released in the same year - unless Bungie announce it in the next month or so.

I agree with this. I don't get why so many people are of the mindset that AAA games being announced in the summer and released in the fall of the same year is the norm now, it really isn't. Almost every game has a 1+ year window between announcement and release, usually several years.

I know Destiny has done yearly expansions with announcements several months prior, but an entirely new game is substantially more work and content. I would be happily shocked if it releases within 3-6 months of announcement.

Shorter hype-cycles are a thing these days. D2 is one of those games that does not need a long marketing campaign because of its still very active userbase.

I expect a teaser that points to E3 soonish.

I thought it was a mega patch updating the core game to "Destiny 2". If Destiny 2 is a separate game won't it leave Destiny 1 to die?

Doesn't it make more sense to update the game rather than start from scratch? I also thought that was one of the long term goals by leaving behind PS3 and 360?

Sure they're a thing. But they are still in the overwhelming minority, particularly with AAA games. People are getting their hopes way up that every game announced at E3 this year will be out in the fall it seems like.

What we've heard so far all points to a brand new game leaving Destiny 1 content behind. It always struck me as a strange decision in an mmo-style game, but that's what it appears to be.

I'm excited, I really do hope it hits in 2017. They should start the hype train soon if it launches this year.

Really think starting the hype train this time around should be very carefully approached. The hype train really hurt Destiny and continues to inflict wounds.

It was the 2.0 update of Destiny 1.

I miss Destiny sometimes and I go back and play a strike or two...and then remember that I have 0 friends that play it so the strikes are about all I can do. Hopefully 2 improves on that...or at least Eververse can sell me a few friends.

Please no. I don't like the structure of Destiny 1. I feel they've hit the ceiling in D1. Everything from the main hub to the mission design needs a major overhaul. I essentially want a completely new game.

Just get in the destiny community thread here and make some friends, raids are the best content.

Yes! I'd also like them to improve loading in 2. Destiny is constant loading and loading and loading.

Accessing loadouts from your ship would fix a dumb trip to the tower (yeah apps, but thats not the point). The ship was a loading screen in Destiny 1, such a waste. Its one of many issues this game has. The few sandboxes in it are completely dull as well, judging by the DLC it couldn't really be expanded in a way most MMO do. The game was a cut n paste job like FFXV. Thats why I rather see them starting from scratch and perhaps delivering what they intended.

no way is it coming out this year.

prepare to wait until Fall 2018, after a huge marketing campaign all summer long.

Well with 1000+ people working on the game I'd assume it's gonna be a pretty unreal finish if they get it done by Fall of this year.

Normally I'd agree with you, but what else does Activision have right now to make shareholders happy? There's nothing new coming out of Blizzard this year beyond the usual Hearthstone expansions, CoD sales are steadily declining year-over-year, and they've burned through all their other franchises.

Activision isn't motivated by the love of the hobby. They're not in the "wait until it's finished" camp, outside of Blizzard whom they have no real control over. It has to be Destiny 2.

No fucking way. Fall 2018 and the game is toast. It's either late Q4 this year or end of Q1 2018. They can't keep asking the live team to give us hold overs until then. It's just not sustainable. Plus there's going to be some serious pressure from Activision to get it out asap. It's gonna happen sooner rather than later.

Yeah, I think you should be able to hire bounty hunters(players) in the game to help you with the raid. You can rate them afterwards. Higher rated players get higher pay.

They need to put match making on the raids but they should also make it part of the lore.

main reason i dont think it has a chance in hell at 2017 is because of the nature of loot games. especially ones of this scale

by its nature it'll be broken at launch no matter what. but release it this soon it'll be a tire fire

Did you not get the spark of light? It should have been at your postmaster. But getting to lvl40 isnt that hard.

I did but I love the grind and the level progression so I'm definitely not going to use those items.

I don't really have any friends that actively play this so I doubt I'm going to do much of the end game content unless there's a nice group of GAF'ers who still raid on a regular basis :)

Just hit Lv 20 yesterday and still loving the solo story content.

I'm not feeling the Crucible much though. Is there a real reason to play PvP in the game if I'm not enjoying it? I feel like if I wanted to play a competitive FPS I'd rather just play Overwatch.

Have you not seen the DestinyGAF thread :P. Honestly no there really isn't a need to play PvP unless you're doing one of the quests, and the Crucible honestly is more fun when you are lvl40 with better weapons. At low levels it does feel like a chore.

I mean unless you want some of the Trials of Osiris or Iron Banner weapons/armor. There's not really a need to play it.

Join a group on the100 or a similar site. Groups you with a ton of people that all play at the same time you do.

Maybe we should do a Destiny 2 what we know so far thread. After all they have dropped all sorts of tidbits like totally different structure to the game more inline with rise of iron's in games activities and less like the prison of elders etc. also I thought we were given a timeline from Bungie confirmed rise of iron as the last expansion and that Destiny 2 was holiday 2017. That date might slip, but someone out there has compiled all the Destiny 2 info together somewhere.

Playing Destiny at launch? Meh
Playing Destiny two years later? OMFG GOAT AMAZEBALLS

I might just have to pull out the cryogenic chamber from the garage for Destiny 2 and play it two years post-launch.

Well, I've never played it, and if a new game takes 4-5 years to make, releasing it with little content and having to spend several more years just to get the expected features implemented, is it really worth it?

If they kept a lot of the same tech, engine, loot, and design in place and build on that- Wouldnt it give them more a lot more content and faster?
I thought Destiny had this 10-year plan and a lot of the appeal with it was to grow your character throughout the years and years.

It was always a 10 year plan for a franchise, not one single game.

I truly don't know. I can see it going either way.

It would be a megaton for the game to be announced at E3 and then release this fall. There would be a spike in hype.

You know its been in development in one iteration or another since BEFORE Destiny 1 even launched. AND if that leaked picture was true from way back when...Its been delayed at least a year.

So, even if believe that Development started the day Destiny 1 shipped, that's three years.

We know they have other studios working on it (or at least some parts)...

The Rise of Iron did feel like a sendoff to Destiny with some of those quests really "looking back" at the journey of Destiny. Plus them bringing back g-horns and icebreakers...etc.

So yeah...its conceivable it might release this year. More than likely Spring of 2018, but...eh.

I just want more Destiny....

You would think that, but apparently the tools they have to use to build levels, content, and maps in D1 is a gigantic garbage fire. Like I remember Kotaku reports saying it took hours just for them to load up a level, then hours any time they wanted to move anything, then hours to save those changes.

So really they are better off biting the bullet and releasing a whole new game that gives them a chance to overhaul the tech end of things, where as they couldn't do that if they stayed in the D1 framework.

Not just hours. Literally a full overnight cycle to load, and they had to prey it didn't crash or fuck up during the time that happened.

This new tech apparently is a whole other ballgame though compared to what they used to have.

I have mixed feelings about Destiny on PC. On one hand, I'd much prefer it but on the other hand it will be a hackers wet dream. I will probably just stick with PS4 or go to Xbox if it'd Scorpio enhanced

Well it is assumed the reason the first never came to PC is because of a dependency on client-side authority. A sequel may give them the clean break they need to button up their infrastructure. If there's anything Activision has access too, its people with knowledge to make robust and secure server infrastructure.

Could see it slip to spring, but fall would mean a full year delay.

Don´t see that happening.

I might be mistaken but wasn't D2 supposed to be released last fall according to the original, leaked and probably outdated schedule? If so then a fall 2018 release would actually be a two year delay.
I don't think they can keep D1 alive until then. D2 needs to happen no later than Q1 2018 and even that's too late if you ask me. I really want to hop back in but nut until D2 so hopefully they pull off a miracle and release it this year.

Pretty sure it'll be a Fall 2017 release as Rise of Iron was made by their Destiny content team while the rest worked on D2

It seems like they would want a consistent trickle of D2 news to remind us Destiny is not dead. It is supposed to be a living universe after all.

No, your right. It was already delayed for 1 year. They started over at some point and made Luke Smith the lead.

Of course it is coming out this year people. Lol. There is nothing new coming to d1 except small live team updates. They pushed back 2016 release for 2017.

If they can't release it in September I think it would be wise to save it for Q1 2018, avoiding SW Battlefront 2 and whatever else may release during the extended holiday period.

I really dont believe Destiny 2 would need to avoid any title.

People that play Destiny or used to would drop anything and everything, and it would be wise not to launch anywhere near Destiny 2.

Destiny does not need to worry about any other game. They have a massive core group that will be there Day 1 no matter what. That said, September is the perfect release window. Plenty of time to level up and explore the end game content before the wave of new players joins during the holiday season. Much like COD, there will be a spring teaser, followed by a pre-E3 trailer and post E3 beta.

This is what we should look for:

There´s a possibility of Bungie at least hinting at an announcement if they don´t want an earnings call to steal their thunder.
