Any news on proper second screen support for Vita?

This was the case last week and I'm not greeted with a Vita firmware so I think the situation didn't change..

There is probably a grand total of "1" games (kept plural on purpose) that I know use Vita as a second screen in a meaningful way, and that is the Playroom. Yet, Vita still doesn't support the broadcast portion as the second screen.

As someone who has purchased the Vita no small thanks to the anticipated PS4 interactivity, this is quite disheartening. Is Sony criminally negligent towards the Vita, to the point that they still couldn't bring full second screen functionality?

I think a big reason for the second screen functionality being included was Sony hedging their bets incase the WiiU took off like the Wii did.

Since that didn't happen, and no third parties are really even making WiiU games now, it's just a residual holdover from the systems development. The PS4's appendix if you will, a shared ancestral link with the evolutionary dead end the WiiU went down.

It might get used down the line, but with the beyond terrible Vita sales, and no demand for such a feature, I'd be surprised to see more than a couple of games utilising it ever being made

You still can't even plug in a Vita to a PS4 to back up and whatnot. Probably safe to assume that there won't be any new (or further utilization of existing) features for the platform.

Here's a moment of silence for Vita, then.

Indeed, Sony is bringing the full PS4 activity on their phones now (with controller attachment support) and fully working second screen functions (which doesn't get the love from devs in anyway)

The dream is over, though this dream was never very realistic in the first place. GCN-GBA couldn't make second screen work and the Vita will never hit even GCN numbers while the jury is out on PS4 hitting GBA numbers (though it probably will).

Second screen gaming is officially dead with the Wii U until it can be included packaged in with a system while still maintaining price and power relevancy with competing platforms.

Came in this thread expecting TV out support. Which they should do. Imagine how good it would be if you could plug your vita in and connect more controllers via Bluetooth to play games. Nidhogg, PSASBR, fighting games, divekick etc. It could compete against Mimi android portable consoles, but truly be portable at the same time.

Plus the Vita has HDMI out functionality, they just needed to release the cable. They should have done this instead of releasing the vita TV.

Do many games even use this? If any of my games do it I'm unaware of it. Seems like a forgotten feature in general not just on vita

It's removed now on the newer models too. It's another possible feature Sony squandered on, the component cables for PSP were quiet good.

Because the profit margin from selling a vita tv is higher than selling a cable.
They may even make you buy a controller if you buy a vita tv.

That's what I thought too, including ACIV: Black Flag, but both simply use there own proprietary companion app. Which work when they want to and not when you want them too :(

I think Sony wanted the second screen to be good for all, jack of all trades, but it might have ended up being very slow for many tasks. My galaxy tab t230 (although entry level) is having a hard time updating the screen and it is very hard to draw anything because lines appear only after half a second.

Curiosly, my old phone was faster for the job probably due to its low resolution but since it didn't have ample amount of memory, many tabs did not show any graphics. I guess the high pixel density of the galaxy tab is too much for its weak cpu and the second screen app is not the best optimized app.

Any changes on Vita Second Screen?

I've been accused of spreading misinformation on a Tearaway thread because I said Sony is not updating Second Screen of Vita anymore. Let's set the record straight. Did they update it to accommodate playroom fully? Earliest I can check is tomorrow, otherwise.

I don't know, I don't have a PS4. My reply was just in relation to Tearaway Unfolded second screen functionality which will work with the PS4 Link application on PS Vita according to Media Molecule. ;) Don't know about Playroom.

My post was in reply to the post who thought second screen was not being utilized in Vita. I wouldn't be the least surprised. Good news that it works. Would be nice if they at least used a Vita in promo videos *additional to the tablet second screen* but they don't?

Probably it's using just the draw functions which is available on the Vita second screen but playroom is using advanced stuff that didn't work on Vita a few months ago.
