But sometimes fads turn out to be, like, good stuff. Community, Doctor Horrible, Doctor Who... how do you tell the difference between avatars that are fad-based and avatars that are taste-based?

Because in a few days/weeks/months they'll be sporting some other avatar and while it can be said that some fads are based off of some good stuff, it doesn't stop the fact that some people will chop and change their 'interests' in order to 'fit in'.

Having said that, people who actually feel that an avatar from something like MLP/Community/meme is representative of themselves now look like they follow the fad. They will be the ones down the line who will look like they don't want to jump off of the bandwagon but they will be the ones that will have a genuine interest in it.

I find the whole username/avatar/post content to be a really interesting thing. If only I studied social psychology

I don't disregard their posts or opinions because of this. I was merely observing how some members follow trends and how those trends can reflect on the personality of the poster.

I cant be the only one who has started adblocking every single one of them. OK you had no interest in the show 2 months ago but now it's trendy so you are all of a sudden into the show. Fine with me. The world needs followers too. But damn if those avatars arent 100% obnoxious.

I've never felt the need to block anyone's avatar before this, but now every time I look to the left of a page it's full of pink unicorns shitting heart shaped rainbows. This shit has gone too far.

The TV show is currently on the air. I like said TV show so I show my affection by sporting an avatar of said show, similar to the way you sport an avatar of whatever that is you have there. When the show stops airing I will likely change to another thing I like currently, or maybe wear another for Season 2.

I had no interest 2 months ago because I hadn't heard of it, I'm not born with knowledge of every show I'll love. What is trendy? Supporting a new presidential candidate? Buying a new type of shoe you like?

I don't plan on abadoning MLP as if it doesn't exist anymore, I will watch Season 2 when it airs as well. Are new likes trendy?

Grow up and stop treating a message board like a high school cafeteria. If a group of people like something you don't, accept it and move on. I haven't seen anyone from MLP post that creepy fanfic picture, only insecure trolls that actually have it saved on their imgur accounts. Pandaman, the OP of said picture, was lambasted for it and hasn't done anything like that since. He probably will again at some point, because I suspect he is a troll as well, but whatever.
