Because in a few days/weeks/months they'll be sporting some other avatar and while it can be said that some fads are based off of some good stuff, it doesn't stop the fact that some people will chop and change their 'interests' in order to 'fit in'.Jintor said:But sometimes fads turn out to be, like, good stuff. Community, Doctor Horrible, Doctor Who... how do you tell the difference between avatars that are fad-based and avatars that are taste-based?

If I didn't want to keep my trend of using only Phoney Bone for my avatar, I would be picking Mojo Jojo. Mojo Jojo is what I would pick if I did not have the Phoney Bone avatar, because Mojo Jojo is what I would pick.Koodo said:ALERT! POWERPUFF GAF is offering the much desired position for Mojo Jojo!

Now you see, and also take notice of the facts in front of you in a visual manner - which is to say with your eyes - that I, indeed, have rendered you in a state incapable and otherwise without ability to be helped or otherwise assisted!

Having said that, people who actually feel that an avatar from something like MLP/Community/meme is representative of themselves now look like they follow the fad. They will be the ones down the line who will look like they don't want to jump off of the bandwagon but they will be the ones that will have a genuine interest in it.
I find the whole username/avatar/post content to be a really interesting thing. If only I studied social psychology

I sometimes wonder how you can even bear to post here, I've never seen you post anything that didn't show a complete disdain for everything.ghst said:i remember a month ago, i really felt like gaf needed an army of mewling, saccharine moefurries to worship a visually diabetic one-note flash cartoon, and factory line a whole internet's worth of sub-lol cat image macros and enough nauseating gifs to make a ps3 first party exclusive ot blush, in a veritable festival of transparent development issues.
Absolutely nothing wrong with that in my books. Like I said, some people see them as instances of their personality. I could go deep into thisUltimoo said:I just pick avatars that look cool. Laughing Banana: People that sport Game/sports/anime/whatever in their avatars do so because they enjoy said content. They often will sport said content for their tenure on Gaf. I don't disregard their posts or opinions because of this. I was merely observing how some members follow trends and how those trends can reflect on the personality of the poster.

The TV show is currently on the air. I like said TV show so I show my affection by sporting an avatar of said show, similar to the way you sport an avatar of whatever that is you have there. When the show stops airing I will likely change to another thing I like currently, or maybe wear another for Season 2.I <3 Memes said:I cant be the only one who has started adblocking every single one of them. OK you had no interest in the show 2 months ago but now it's trendy so you are all of a sudden into the show. Fine with me. The world needs followers too. But damn if those avatars arent 100% obnoxious.
I've never felt the need to block anyone's avatar before this, but now every time I look to the left of a page it's full of pink unicorns shitting heart shaped rainbows. This shit has gone too far.
