Anybody taking time off for Dark Souls 3?

I just decided to go with Uncharted 4 and buy DS3 later since I'm just fresh out of bloodborne and dark souls 3 seems odly similar.

Tuesday is kind of an awkward day to take off for game releases. If the game released on a Monday or Friday, I'd take that off to extend the weekend and enjoy the game, but taking a random day off in the middle of the week feels weird to me. I'd rather save the time for when I'm sick or other emergencies in this case.

I'm lucky, here in Cambodia April is full of public holidays including a third new year in 4 months (we get time off for Western, Chinese and Khmer new years)

My kind of third world problems :)

Nope. I think taking time off to play a game is kind of stupid to be honest. If you are planning to take vacation and it coincides with that day, then sure knock yourself out. However, if you are burning a day of vacation that you could later use, or if you are going to miss out on pay if you aren't salaried, then that's a losing proposition.

True.
But they has to be a better use of your day off than playing a video game. especially since most games tend to be unplayable for the first few days. Also it is not like playing the game at release actually changes anything. You could still play the game during your spare.

I mean, it if your time so you can free to do whatever you want. Just know that people are going to be critical of it since the time could be better spent doing something else.
Most tend to be unplayable for the first few days? Regardless of how a few big launches have been in the past couple years, that's a pretty big exaggeration.

And better use according to whom? You? Some abstract meaningless societal standard? People are allowed personal time off every year. The keyword being personal. You don't determine what's a better use of someone's personal leisure time, and people that hold that critical position shouldn't be taken seriously.

Honest question: Is taking paid time off for gaming really how some of you guys like to use it? I guess I'd maaaybeee consider doing it if I had more than two weeks. Right now I'd much rather use it on travel.
What if someone doesn't care about traveling? See, that's the thing, you value it. Cool, nothing wrong with it. At the same time, why shouldn't someone have a day or more to themselves to relax and unwind with a game they've been looking forward to for a long time? I'll never understand taking up issue with it lol.

No but for the longest time I have wanted to take days off for a games release. I just haven't found a game yet where I want that to happen. I could if I wanted to. I have two vacations scheduled for the year and I have to use my days or I lose them. So I might just be taking random days off during the year anyways.

I'm surprised by the number of people in this thread throwing negative criticism at people who would take a day off to play a game. I'm of the opinion that if you've got the time, take a day(s) off to do whatever you want; whether that's: playing games, being hung-over, enjoying the outdoors, housework, etc.

The current company I work for only allows carry over of 25% of your vacation days / PTO; otherwise it's "use it, or lose it." I consider vacation time almost as important as salary, and make the most of all the time that I get. After planning out the days I need to take off for the year (for planned travel, etc), I make a plan on how to spend all the leftover PTO I have. This usually includes: a day for E3, a couple Fridays in the summer just to enjoy the weather/outdoors, and a day or two saved for extra time around Christmas.

I'm not a big Souls fan, and I've never take time off for a game specifically before, though I think I might do so for the first time this year (or next) when Mass Effect: Andromeda releases.

I have 31 vacation days per year and none carry over, so yeah... I can take time off for video games a few times per year and still have time for traveling, etc.

like posting on gaf

Yup. The irony.
Or killing your bladder eating shit/killing your liver by drinking lots of alcohol. Everyone has their own priorities and there's loads of hypocrites in this topic (people getting offended at what others use their days off doing). Some of us have very long hours at our current jobs and don't have time for vidya gaems, so yes, taking a day off is pretty much a requirement to do what we want.

Unfortunately I can't afford to take off unnecessary time right now, but I'll be playing every night after work for way longer than I probably should.

And you'll waste one of those precious weeks just playing dark souls in your pyama pants all day?

I mean, sure there's enjoyment to be had playing games, but taking time off of your day job just to slum it in front of a monitor for days on end is just not something I can imagine myself doing. No matter the game.

Be careful up there on your high horse

People enjoy things others don't, who knew. For 90% of the population of the planet, the fact that you spend hours on NeoGAF, posting over a thousand times during last year alone, is utterly incomprehensible. :)

For the record, I've never actually done this, and at this point I don't think I would. I've noticed that even playing a whole day (on slow weekends where me and the missus don't feel like doing anything else) is way too much for me and I stop enjoying it if I don't mix it up with other things.

I never understood it personally.

The idea of someone taking a day off from the grueling 9-5 grind to relax peacefully with something they have looked forward to experiencing for a long time shouldn't be too difficult to comprehend - even if it's not something you would personally do.

I've never booked time off to play video games and probably won't but I certainly can understand why people would.
