Anybody use a tablet for notes at work?

Just curious if anyone out there uses a tablet for their note taking at work instead of good ol' pen and paper? If so would you mind sharing your experience?

At my last job a few years back some people on my team had started taking notes on their iPads during meetings instead of in notebooks, and they seemed to like it.

I'm considering giving a tablet a shot, as in my head at least it sounds like it could allow for a smoother and more efficient experience when having to juggle a slew of notes for multiple, big projects.

Also, open to suggestions on hardware and apps if anyone wants to toss some out. If I decide to try this out I wouldn't want to break the bank, and would probably be looking at something like a Galaxy Tab 10.1 w/ S Pen.

Thanks!

Why not just use a small laptop so you get a proper keyboard

You can get really good ones that still weigh less than 2 kg, so they're not too heavy to carry around

Can also use it to quickly visualize something using spreadsheet or presentation software

I have an iPad Air 2 and I don't like taking notes on it at all. From what I've read, the iPad Pro using a Pencil is great for note taking, so it sounds like you just need to do some comparison shopping and find a good model. Not sure about Android tablets, but hopefully there's something comparable.

Are you going with a pen or a keyboard? I found the pen on the Surface 3 to be more trouble than it was worth. I always ended up retyping my notes so I could organize them. Maybe I was doing it wrong.

Either way, use OneNote. Multiple tabs and sections for multiple projects (or whatever you do).

I use my surface book to take notes using OneNote. I'm not sure if it's easier than a notepad and pen but it works for me.

Not work, but for school yes. I replaced every single paper notebook with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, which I know you didnÂ’t list but thatÂ’s my answer to the question anyway. ItÂ’s honestly amazing and I have no desire to go back. Super portable with every notebook always with you

Me Pete! Me use pen!

I use the Galaxy Tab A with S Pen here at work. I take my notes in OneNote. It's been super handy. I work at a stone engraving shop. It's handy for making sketches when I'm talking to customers, or taking pictures of rocks they pick out, and definitely nice for taking notes with people who call in. It's been really handy for me. Between it and OneNote, it's helped me be a lot more organized. I open up OneNote on one monitor on my computer, and have Photoshop going on the other as I work on designs for customers.

Really depends on your note taking style. I made fairly sparce notes in University, so I was perfectly fine just pecking away at the on screen keyboard.

The weight can be a factor. I loved just having to deal with the weight of a tablet rather a whole laptop, not to mention the better battery life.

I became a big believer in handwritten notes (there are suggestions writing things out long hand helps with memory retention) but I haven't tried the newer Tablet Pens.

I currently use an iPad Pro w/ Apple Pencil and Notes Plus. I used Notes Plus prior to the Pro & Pencil w/ a rubber dome stylus.

iPad Pro + Apple Pencil is the closest to note-taking on a piece of paper but with all the benefits of being digital. It's great.

iOS 11 is even adding handwriting recognition for search capabilities in the default Notes app.

Surface Pro w/ onenote is great for meetings. Once Quad core U processors become a thing I'll have to seriously consider making them my main work PC.

Thanks for all the responses so far everyone! Really appreciate it :)

In my mind I'm envisioning a pen to tablet approach as opposed to keyboard.

I'm old school and just use a laptop and type all of my notes into Notepad.

I prefer using keyboards over touch interfaces.

That being said, I've never owned a tablet before; now that I'm working in IT, I have a burning desire to get one.

iPads are so damn expensive, though. And I don't know what the best budget-priced Android alternatives are.

I use an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil, in OneNote. It's an awesome set up, especially getting back to my Mac and everything is already there sync'd in OneNote.

Oh hey this is exactly the setup I'm thinking about. Tab A with S-Pen and OneNote, though I've been reading that the Android version of OneNote is really bad, which had me worried. But it sounds like it's all working great for you.

Are the notes you take mostly sketches? Or do you do a lot of writing as well?
