Anyone else considering selling off their PS2 collection?

My PS2 collection has gotten smaller over the years as they get re-released. I'm down to four that I will never get rid of, unless the Squeenix gods answer my nightly prayers of FFXII HD.

My PS3 plays PS2 games so no need for lamo ports! The only ones I got that are getting HDized are MGS2 & 3 anyhows. I actually wanna maybe get more PS2 games and sealed new copies of a few I already have. >_>;

Never, when I was a kid I used to give away consoles and games to youger relatives whenever I got a new one. I wish I still had my Nes and Genesis.

Whatever I have now stays with me as long as possible.

In the past few years I've broken the habit of selling off my old stuff when something newer and flashier comes along. In fact my PS1/2 library is consistently getting bigger. Only the most popular games will ever get the remaster treatment, which leaves tons of games like Ar Tonelico 1/2, Klonoa 2, Demento, Sky Gunner, God Hand, KOFXI, Valkyrie Profile 2, Dragon Quarter, Grimgrimoire, Zero 1-3, etc. That's just stuff I have on my shelf!

If Ace Combat 4/5/0 never get ported, there isn't a chance in hell I'll part with my PS2.

but but but in 2013 when they release the $450 PS4 LEGACY MODEL with full BC you're gonna be sorry

i'm not selling my shit, but i do agree that cutting themselves off from such a fantastic library was one of their worst moves, hands down

I'm keeping the good stuff. ;)

I don't think a majority of them would be really worth all that much, and I still play them from time to time. I don't think I've beaten all of them anyways.

Seeing as I only have 3 PS2 games and 2 PS1 games I use my PS2 to play, umm no I'm not selling them. Even though they all will see remakes at some point.

Wouldn't give up on PS2:
Ace Combat series
Ape Escape series
Armored Core series
Contra: Shattered Soldier
Dragon Quest VIII
Front Mission 4
Klonoa 2
R-Type Final
Ratchet & Clank series
Mega Man X Collection
MegaTen series
Suikoden V
Twisted Metal: Black
Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution
Yakuza series

Everything else I like seems to be getting HD'd, and I would be all for those I listed getting the same.

Oh yeah, Gradius V. I couldn't live without that.
Hell yeah.

I'd almost expect that to be re-released on XBL in HD though... All of Treasure's other shooters are on there.. it seems like a good fit.

I still own several PS2 games that I have not been able to finish, and there are yet more that I want to buy in the near future if I can track them down for decent prices.

Edit: Gradius V being one of the ones I need to buy! Heh.

I'm actually not even done acquiring PS2 games! (Although as I think about it, Konami and Sony's HD collections would cover I think just about everything I was actively looking to pick up.) I own like 60 PS2 games and I definitely haven't covered everything that's excellent and worth playing on the system.

There will be a day where the entire PS2 collection fits on $5 storage the size of a postage stamp and when refinements of emulation have brought a near-perfect implementation of the system's past glories to the PC screen, leaving the value of the physical discs to fall far from its peak.... but today is not that day.

Well, no, not really. Can't consider selling anything off if I never owned it in the first place.
Have to go with Billychu on this. The PS2 does have some good games so you should start a PS2 collection that you can then consider selling off (no matter how small, like mine).

Yea I've thought about selling some of the ps2 games and ps3/360 games, but only those I don't like and might not revisit. Then I don't really have a huge collection so I thought I won't really get much from them, so I never did.

HELL no.

I'm foolishly holding out for a software update on PS3 that makes every PS3 PS2 backwards compat.

I kept my favorites but everything else went bye bye. HD remakes and new games are flooding my time can barely find time to play the "favorites"

No. You're trapped in 1999. You need to get a PS2. Now.

Uh...I own a DS, PSP, Xbox 360 and Wii...in the present, bub.

I've got more than enough games than I have time to play now. Fuck, as it is now I'm tempted to get rid of my 360 sometimes and just stick to my Wii, DS, and PSP.

Might as well wait for one that makes it forwards compatible.

For the majority of my collection, there will be no ports. Digital Devil Saga, SMT3, Valkyra Profile II, God Hand, etc. I have no intention to give these games up. In many cases, I'd rather replay them or play the ones undone instead of many of the modern titles.

For the ones there are, PCSX2 > HD Collection. My PC is always going to be BC, console on the other hand are up to the developers. If I invest in the new DMC collection and dump my copies of 1 and 3SE, and PS4 turns out to not be BC. Shits for me then. Or maybe, they manage to get PS2 BC in for the download store, but not PS3. Now my PS2 copies work, but shits again for the port ups.

And lets be honest here... Most of the titles aren't going to sell for that much anyways. For the single box I can fit all my games into, is much better than having to rebuy.

No. There are a bunch that I keep for posterity, while I've been weeding out titles here and there that I have no plans on keeping.

I've sold so many games from my collection over time that there are very few in it right now that I'd be willing to part with with exception to a few that I either got for free or are of such a circumstance that I don't know what to do with.

I trimmed down my PS2 collection a little bit over the years, though I probably still have 60 to 70 games. But no, I won't be completely selling off my game and systems. I'll keep my PS2 games just as I kept my PS1 games. Or my DC games. Or Xbox. Or Gamecube.

Hell, I'm not going to sell my original Ico or SOTC either, even though I have the HD update.

I'm a collector.

I'm keeping it for later and for my kids in the future.

As an anecdote - when I was a kid, my dad had a HUGE collection of LPs. I could never appreciate it, not because there was better technology (there wasn't) but I just couldn't understand what was so amazing about the music. Now, he's still got a stack of them sitting around, and I think that it's useless and takes up space. He's got his sentimental reasons for keeping them, but I can't understand it.

Meanwhile, I've got my huge collection of games sitting around taking up space. I love them. I doubt my kids would understand it.

If push comes to shove, yeah, I'll get rid of them. But I most certainly wouldn't be saving them for my kids.

Still keeping

FFXII
Gradius V
SMT Nocturne
Suikoden V
Valkyrie Profile 2
Okami
Chulip
Maximo

Only one or two (FFXII, Okami) seem like they would have any chance of any HD port. I guess Nocturne might get a Vita port. That would be great.

Maybe we need to have a massive prayer rally in addition to our nightly prayers.

Ahahahahha, I love this reasoning.

Sell it! You'd be surprised how much you would make. And how much space you save. And how much less plastic clutter and dust-magnets you have around. And how much freedom LESS stuff can give you.

Even if it is just mental freedom.

This. Didn't sell off my entire collection, but got rid of a pretty big percentage. Feels good man

I own like 10 PS2 games :/

I didn't have a job then. I own 50 360/PS3 games. I really need to stop buying new games and work on the old ones.

Fair enough I suppose. I'm pretty much in the same boat myself but fortunately non-Nintendo console gaming is less and less interesting each year and I haven't played many PS1 or 2 games yet.

You can literally get like twelve amazing PS2 games for the price of a single brand new HD console game.

It's funny, thats actually the only game I sold.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is much better, IMO.

crazy talk!

I replayed DA 1 with my gf recently and we had to force ourselves to get through to the end... the super monotonous environments were way WAY too long and huge with NO variety in enemies at ALL...

CoN actually had more variety and had AWESOME environments and they were actually original instead of ice cave 1, 2 and 3... or swamps etc!

in CoN you were on some other plane of existence, a vampire's castle, and inside a huge ant nest... a freaking ANT nest!!!

I'll keep all the games that aren't ported. (sold my God of War 1/2 and Sly games)

But I'm still keeping Ico/Sotc, and my MGS Essential Collection even though those games have been ported. Probably irrational of me to do that but how much money will I get for those games, anyway?

I'm still buying some PS2 games. There's so much to get for this console. And I'm pretty sure that games like Breath of Fire:Dragon Quarter and Wild Arms 3 won't get a HD rerelease.

God, so much good stuff, I'd happily buy HD versions of everything I already own (and some things I don't).

But since I'm sure they never will I guess I'll just have to keep them. I have been enjoying seeing my collection of PS2 games slim down as they release these collections though.

It was one of the first things I did when this gen started. I ended up with most of the 360's lineup which I still think is the best launch lineup I've played.

I forget the exact numbers but I traded in over 100 games as well as accessories and the few gamecube games and items I had and was able to get:

Condemned, PDZ, Kameo, PGR3, Quake 4, Call of Duty 2, and Gun. Doesn't sound like much in return but keep in mind these were all 50-60 dollars so I definitely got quite a bit of credit.

I guess I kind of expected Sony to resell most of the good games eventually as it just made business sense, but I won't lie it was mostly because I was ready to move to the next gen.
you poor bastard

Nay. The only games from my PS2 collection that I will sell are ones that won't work on my PS3 and I could get a HD re-release. Jak and Daxter for example if that SA site told the truth about a collection. Want to play that, can't on my PS3, I'll sell/give/trade/gift it.

Every other game that does work in my 30 some titles however, work just fine and are still quite enjoyable to play. Why would I sell titles I can and will enjoy again in the future? The graphics don't offend me or keep me from playing them like PS1 titles do, and they still hold experiences that other consoles don't have.

No, all my PS2 games run in my PS3. I would sell only some of them that would have a far better HD version and is not a game that I really love.

I'm certainly not going to assume that the newly ported HD remasters of PS2 games are going to be the easiest way to play PS2 games in the future. I'm not going to bet on Sony having PS1, 2 and 3 BC in PS4. I'm not even sure they'd have PS2 BC. So no thanks, I'll keep my PS2 and games until futher notice, and see the PS2 HD remasters as a luxury that might not be viable for me in the future.

In short, I believe the original PS2 games are more futureproof than the remasters.

I've recently been thinking about buying a new PS2 because my launch PS2 has been having trouble running games and I still play PS2 games a bunch.

This. You're honestly going to sell Persona 4 because it's getting a PSP2 port with a few enhancements (WHOO~ SHADOWS ON THE PLAYERS~), really? It isn't even an "HD" port, it just looks "HD" because they've 16:9'd the game then shrunk it. Shrinking games down always makes it look "HD."
It's not just the shrinking of the image that is improving the quality, though, the resolution is MUCH higher than PS2. Persona 4 is (if I recall) just 512x448 on PS2 while it's 960x540 on Vita. That's a significant improvement.
