I've been getting annoying redirect ads while surfing NeoGAF (and seemingly only NeoGAF of the websites I usually visit) that redirect to cellphone-tips.com and vibrate my (Android) phone.

Just curious if anyone else is seeing these?

I might suspect it to be some sort of malware... but my phone is just a few weeks old, I don't have a ton of apps installed -- and I trust them all (only a few of have any sort of ad support -- I think just Speedtest, Podcast Addict and Pac-Man 256).

I cleared my Chrome cookies/history/etc. and on first return to the site, had the ad happen again.

Can't rule out malware, but right now it seems more likely to me that this is some ad that's being served up here... right now I'm planning to heavily surf the rest of the web to see if I can replicate the issue elsewhere. But for now, hoping to see whether anyone else is experiencing the problem or has any insight into it...

Well, that's a much more reassuring response than I expected... (I mean, it's annoying and bad, but nice to know I'm not alone).

Yup me too multiple times a day for the last couple of days.

I mean, having terrible redirect ads on mobile gaf is nothing new, always been scummy ad policies on the site but this is the worst by far.

Edit: lmao... I got it while posting this reply...

I've got an original iPad from 2010 and I know it's past its prime, but it shouldn't be completely useless for simple web browsing.

Pop-ups and pop-unders and flash banner ads and all this crap has gotten so bloated and intrusive that 80% of the pages I try to bring up on the device unceremoniously crash the browser to the "desktop" after a minute or two of viewing the page.

I can't even browse 95% text websites like TVTropes without the thing being ground to a halt by the banner ads that try to follow you around the page, and play animations/video/sound.

I've got a whole list of companies I'll never purchase good or services from because they've decided that their flashy ads are more important than me being able to find and read the information I'm actually looking for.

Thank god for my windows phone. No pop UPS or redirects

Actually I'm going redirects on my Lumia 920 and popups saying that my version of Android is outdated (lol).

I've already made a note of it on staff forums, go harass stump about it or something. I'm pretty sure he's Canadian so I'm sure it's all his fault.

Used to get it for quite a while(though not always, seemed to happen randomly), but thank goodness the latest iOS version allows content blockers. Was happening on many other sites too.

I had a similar issue in the past and it turned out the dns on my router had been hijacked. It only happened on gaf, but that was just a coincidence. I fixed the dns, changed the password on my router and no more problems.

Just got a pop up for some security app, it redirected me to the Geogle play store.

Same, having this problem for like 4 weeks now here (HTC One M8, latest android). Thought i had malware on the phone and installed a couple of scanners but got 0 detections so far.
Happens only on GAF. Phone vibrates and i get to the gstore to some malware scanner.

I've also been having this problem recently, but the last day or two it's seriously gotten way worse. It used to be like 1/50 pages I'd get it, but now it's like 1/10 pages. Makes browsing NeoGAF a pain in the ass. :(

Had not had this problem on iPad via Safari. However today while procrastinating during a meeting, I had several redirects on my 'droid phone to some phone site that informed me my version of Android was out of date.

Rather annoying.

Yep its always chrome. Pop ups pointing to shitty fake anti malware sites and the phone vibrating like crazy.

At least you got to the real store I literally was redirected away from gaf to a fake store called play.geogle.com

I can confirm, got the same shit. Once it redirected me to a Korean play.store.

Guess I won't be browsing GAF on my phone for a while.

This has been happening to me for a week or so? I'm on an Android system as well. It's not very frequent (maybe once a day and I browse GAF a lot on my phone) so it's probably a specific ad banner that triggers it.

It's not strictly GAF though, this kind of hidden scripts in ad banners that open popups on phones has been a trend for a while now, especially on Android systems. It's extremely annoying but harmless so don't freak out when it happens.
