Anyone else take annual leave to do absolutely nothing?

I get 22 days of annual leave a year, but because I'm trying to save money I haven't really been tempted to go abroad.

That basically means I've been using my holiday (vacation) time to just have random days off here and there with no plans in mind

This Thursday I've got a day off and I'm going to do absolutely fuck all. It's going to be fucking sweet.

Although I do have weekends it always seems like I've got a million things to do and people to see with the GF, so it's nice to chilled out and pretend to be unemployed again for a day.

Oh and I'm five months into my vacation year and I've only used 3/22 days. The second half of the year is gonna be gooooood.

What about you guys?

I have been contemplating the same with some additional Mon/Fri's off this year. I get 3 weeks a year (4 now as our bargaining unit just settled), yet I'm so busy that there usually isn't time. Took a 2 week road trip down to Vegas and Comic Con last year (I'm in Saskatchewan so it's a long haul) and spent a week in Phoenix with the parents in February, but have no real plans at all this year. Hate seeing my additional time paid out at the end of the year as it feels like a waste, so might as well take it easy.

Yeah I'm up to like 26 days a year. I didn't take much this year so now I'm taking every Friday off plus a week here and there before the end of our fiscal year.

Ill be taking a week off when the new systems launch.

Anyone buying extra systems to sell on ebay?

I have both reserved, and was honestly thinking of selling the PS4 online?

What do you think?

Hells yes i think its the best feeling in the world just to chill out, and do nothing whats so ever. I mean my legs are pretty much destroyed lol so its just a great relief to be lazy for a bit.

I work for myself, so I don't really take vacation unless my wife wants to. That said, I would rather sit at home doing absolutely nothing over going on a trip. I actually get bummed when I have to go on a leisure trip, even though I have fun once I get there.

I think it's about making a balance. I love doing stuff and seeing the country/friends or whatever, but I can't remember the last time I just didn't do anything.

It's so nice to lie in and have a coffee, maybe do a bit of cleaning, have a bath at 11am, maybe make a bagel or something.

Shit's relaxing.

I've booked 2 weeks off and I'm using 1 day to take my driving test. I'll probably just be sitting around watching sport & playing my PS3 for the other 13 days...

You know what's wrong with people these days, everyone hates being bored.

Being bored is fucking awesome when you have so much else going on in life. It lets you think about shit, catch up on stuff you've being putting off and just relax and reduce your stress levels.

I also realise this thread makes me sound super high. I'm not btw.

I tend not to take annual leave unless I have something planned. At my previous job this ended up with me having 40+ days under my belt when I left. Easily enough to pay for my wife's engagement ring.

My company won't let me sell out my annual leave. Probably a good thing, my job is super stressful.

I take a couple of weeks off a year for family vacations and a shitload of 3-4 day weekends to just chill at home or do an extended weekend trip with my beautiful wife.

Staycations are great because I have a lot to do at my place. It's the time to enjoy what you have.

I get 42 days of PTO every year and take staycations all the time. I tend to break my time up a lot and also bank "X" amount every year up to my cap (400hrs I think?). The real beauty is when I plan far enough in advance and work a Sunday so that I can take a Thurs-Sun off and only use 8hrs of PTO. I do this a lot actually. About once a month on average I'd guess. I pretty much bank time in the winter and spend PTO during the summer and around holidays.

I work 40 hours within three days so I get four days off every week. If I'm saving money I tend to not do much within those four days unless I'm working additional hours. I still do travel a lot though. If a good airline deal comes up I'll often just go somewhere for fun. I'll use my actual vacation days for longer trips or even just take a day off for a new game or movie because I have so much of it.

I'm taking a week and a half off next month but just plan on chilling at home. I thought about taking a trip to Seattle but I don't have the money saved up to do it :(

My two vacations a year are normally a week with family (summer or Christmas) and one week for pure unadulterated video gaming (normally for the release of some hotly anticipated title. Last year, I played PSO2 for 70~ hours that week).

I have about 16 paid vacation days left until the end of the year. Last year, I took off Christmas week, and did basically nothing all week. I also took off a bunch of Fridays leading up to Christmas, where I also did just about nothing. Was fantastic.

Yup. I'm saving all mine for a 3 week holiday at my parents' this year where i will do nothing but play PS4. Last year i watched all of Battlestar Galactica for the first time. On bluray as well :)

Doing absolutely nothing is really great. It let's you relax and take a good hard look at your life. I tend to do it mostly when on short vacations.

That would be lovely! Unfortunately all my holiday this year is spoken for (pesky wedding/honeymoon) but I usually take one day off in spring just for myself.

I get the train to Cornwall early in the morning (it takes three hours each way) and spend the day wandering around the Eden Project, just taking in the sights and photographing anything I really like. I have a big lunch and get a snack for on the train, get home late in the evening and just crash out afterwards.

There's definitely a plan involved, but it's a whole day doing exactly what I want, when I want. It's so relaxing, and I spend the time on the train just listening to music and being alone with my thoughts.

I have a pretty decent amount of vacation time at this point but I really don't even know what I should do with it. I could go someplace but.. That's a lot of money to just visit, when instead I could stick around home and just enjoy having no real plans.

I have to force myself to actually go on "vacation"

I'll still be paying off student loans for the next year and a half or so, so I haven't taken a real vacation yet since I started working. For the last two years I've taken the week of my birthday off, which leads into Labor Day weekend and holiday, making for a nice long vacation where I can chill and do nothing (plus treat it as a birthday present to myself without spending anything).

The rest of my pto I use to take fridays off for the remainder of the year. If I get sick I can just work from home, so I dont use much pto; I've used only 8 hours so far this year, and that was well worth it.

I used to take vacations at home but it got too boring. I'd rather just take the time off if I'm actually going somewhere.

Hmmm. not really annual leave, but perhaps sick leave. Sometimes you just need a 'mental health' day to yourself.

Normally annual leave is reserved if I actually have something to do.

Not a terrible plan given that the launch lineups are mostly skippable stuff, really. You could just cash in on the Christmas crowd on the PS4 and buy another one after Christmas, but keep $100 or more.

I only have 13 days or so of PTO per year (120 hours and I work 9/80)

Going to try and take off one of my 4 day weeks at some point. I was thinking of going to Montreal but I might just stay in Boston and explore around a bit since I don't know this city as well as I should. Or I could sit and play games/watch movies like I'm a teenager again...

I don't have enough money to do anything really interesting, or to travel, but I get 24 days off per year, plus all public holidays, and additional time for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I lose it if I don't use it, so yeah, I end up doing a lot of nothing and I'm not sure if I even enjoy it.

I like to try to take off the Monday after a big run-around weekend where I have a bunch of family or house stuff going on. It's nice to unwind that day when everyone else's fighting that Monday morning traffic. It also helps if you go away for the weekend - for some reason it makes the drive home Sunday less stressful.

I have taken a few Halo-cations the last few releases too :-)
