Anyone ever have success on Craigslist for anything?

I've sold/given away quite a few things on craigslist, and it all worked wonderfully. I've also bought a thing or two from there which also worked well.

I have a friend for whom missed connections has worked very well.

I _love_ reading missed connections because there's so much hilarious stuff on there. There's a few different groups that post:

those that don't know how it works.
Hey, you were wearing a red shirt on <busiest street in town> and you were hot. Tell me what my mother's maiden name was so I know that you saw me!!

those that post crazy, but believable shit.
i was with my mom at burger king and you and i hooked up in the bathroom. we swapped fluids, but not numbers. tell me what size fries i ordered so I know its you.

just funny/trolling
you had a camera and looked kinda cool the other night outside of club x. I saw you turn the corner into the alley, and I followed and was going to say something, but then noticed you were taking a picture. As I moved closer, I realized you were shooting a f'n monster.

WTF was that? I have to know.

Meet me at the corner of 4th and Maple. I'll recognize you. You have to tell me.

Sold/Bought many items. There are great deals to be had.

Record player - $125 (goes for $250+ on ebay)
Sold my Lego Mindstorm for 80% of new value.
PSPGo - $50.
Sigur Ros Takk - $20 (goes for $60+ on eBay)

I always take two precautions. Meet in a public place with a lot of foot traffic during daylight hours. If it is a somewhat expensive item (Seller or buyer), I just google for the email provided. There is usually some record online somewhere. If there isn't, I avoid the transaction.

Bought furniture (futon) from craigslist, found an apartment on craigslist, and found a great job on craigslist.

It can be really tough to filter all the crap on there these days though. Some cities have it much worse. And a lot of companies are moving their job listings to their own sites now. Still, there's plenty of use for the site.

Friend just sold all his old furniture for about 5,000 cash via craigs. It's legit. Just do the swap in public and don't bring people to your home or go to theirs. And if someone wants to meet in an abandoned parking lot...don't.

Hate selling stuff on craigslist, so many assholes trying to talk down the price.

I learned to just artificially inflate the price above what I actually want to sell it for.

I've sold a bunch of things on Craigslist. Last item being an iPad I sold in March.

Biggest item I purchased was a 56" DLP my roommate and I bought back in college. That thing was a bitch to transport, lol.

I've bought and sold a bunch of stuff on craigslist. The past three places I've lived at have been through craigslist as well. I've even gotten two legit jobs on craigslist.

Sold my car on Craigslist. As he was test driving the car he tells me he's an iron horseman. My heart started beating a bit faster at that point.

I sold a number of games to college students from BU, Harvard, BC on craigs list, they all bought my copies of mario kart 64, wonder if i should have told them that other students bought it too :P

also sold my PS3 slim to some college guy, cool guy.

some advice that i'm sure was already said but again:

never ever have them come to your home/ go to their home

always do the transaction in a public place where lots of people are

always do it during the day and not at night

When I moved across the country I sold all of my furniture and a lot of junk on Craigslist and then when I got here I bought all my "new" furniture and appliances on Craigslist. I have now sold and bought two cars on Craigslist, found my current house and roommate situation on there, and have found my last 3 jobs in their job section. I've gotten a few things for free, as well as gotten rid of junker stuff that I knew I couldn't sell (saved me a trip to the dump), through the free section. I also used the barter section once to trade a service I needed for a service I could offer. I have not once had a negative experience, no one was a creep, and I have saved a lot of time and money. You could say I'm a big CL advocate. I haven't utilized the personals or discussion sections though.

Let me add though that I have had to weed through a lot of spam and scammers to have these successes. A lot. But you start to get an eye for the non-legit stuff and just get able to avoid it without much thought.

Met my current girlfriend on there. Said "fuck it" and decided to post my picture and a normal description and it worked in like 2 days.

I've had nothing but good experiences with the actual transactions. I've gotten a lot of scam e-mails in response to my ads, though.
I never have people come to my home, just because my place is like a paradise for thieves, but I've gone to houses in some really bad areas late at night to buy.

Yeah, I've sold some stuff on there. As long as you're smart about things, know which emails pass the smell test and hold firm to what you want, I've unloaded some stuff just fine.

Sold and bought tons of stuff from Craigslist with never any scams or such.

Sold a bunch of sneakers, Ps2, Ps2 games, PSP, old TV, all through Craigslist with no problems.

Bought my current motorcycle from Craigslist, Ipod, and outdoor furniture.

You just have to be smart when going through emails and the transaction process.

Bought a couple of couches through craigslist.

Sold a few pairs of sunglasses which funded new pairs of glasses.

Cleaned out a bunch of furniture from my college house using craigslist.

It works.

- I've sold many things, and bought many things. Meet in public!!! Only dummies meet at X person's house - this is last resort and always bring someone if this happens.

- I've got my current job thanks to CL, it is a legitimate source of jobs.

Bought my PS3, a few paintings, and a lamp...oh, and my car (used G35).

I went to the houses of the people with the paintings, lamp, and car since they lived in nice neighborhoods. The guy I bought the PS3 from I met in a crowded parking lot where cops typically hang out, because he sounded a little rough over the phone (turned out to be a nice guy, easy to deal with).

Bought furniture off of CL for college. There's a lot of obvious scam posts but there are also plenty of good deals, it just takes some patience and digging. Same could be said about ads for housing, but I've found some good places.

There is a loooooot of crap to wade through, though. Tons.

I did get two interviews out of it, though. But ultimately, my university job posting site got me an interview and eventually the job.

Things I've successfully done on Craiglist.

- Met my girlfriend of 3 years (we'll probably get engaged soon)
- Hooked up with 20+ women (all before the girlfriend mentioned above :P)
- Bought my dog (best dog ever)
- Found my current job (graphic designer/web developer for awesome salary and benefits)
- Met many of my best friends through failed dates/hookups or just interesting posts.
- Sold thousands and thousands of dollars worth of stuff (headphones, computers, furniture, musical instruments, etc)
- Bought thousands and thousands of dollars worth of stuff (video games, vinyl records, my ps3, my cell phone, speakers, furniture, etc)
- Found 4 awesome apartments I've moved to
- Sublet an apartment
- Found hundreds of artists to work with for my (now defunct) art gallery

So yeah, CL is awesome and pretty much everything in my life has been affected by it in some way. I've never had a single negative experience on it at all.

I live in a massive city with a huge craigslist community so that helps.

I messed up then because I did both. Bought a Marcy Gym set on there and I don't have a truck to transport so I had to trust the guy. I did the best I could.. Took a friend with me, told family members his address and when I was going..etc..

I can you tell you this though. That was probably the most nervous I have ever fucking been in a while. Especially because he wanted half the money up front. Which I didnt see the purpose but I agreed. He and his friend followed me to my house and unloaded the equipment. He threw in some extra gear and weights too. Cool guy and the set is great.

I also sold UFC undisputed on there after the online code was used for 45.

I don't try to screw people or talk people down unless the price is too much. So far so good but I don't know if I want to do a big money purchase again. That shit is nerveracking.

good skills.

i hooked up with a few semi-celebs on CL back in DC. a crazy roll of the dice but turned into some great times and made some new friends.

Lets see.

- Met some great friends there.
- Hooked up with 5 women from there.
- Sold many things and made good money from there.

yup. I got GTA 4 off craigslist for 30 bucks slightly used 2 weeks after the game came out.

it was pretty funny because no doubt we didn't trust each other. I stayed in my car, he had his kid with him and then made his kid walk up to me to hand me the game lol

everything else seems ok, i got a few jobs from craigslist and focus groups for video games off it.

Was completely against using it but found my car on there. Great car, low mileage, extremely cheap. Plus the girl selling it was smoking hot.

Only had one bad incident where the guy paid me with a fake $20 bill. Wasn't worth the effort to report him to the police because he was the fool since he took the shitty Army of Two (PS3) off my hands.

I actually laughed at this for a good minute.

He doesn't trust you but sends his kid? lol "Here son, I'd rather something happen to you instead of me"

I bought Magic Knight Rayearth , Shining the Holy Arc and Galactic Attack for Saturn from a guy 2 years ago all bundled together for $60. Now I check Craiglist everyday in hoped of getting an awesome deal like that again.

No way you met over 20 even moderately attractive ladies off Craigslist. I refuse to believe that unless they were hookers.

As for me sold my 360 and a few other electronic devices--the trick is to meet during the day in a somewhat crowded place like the parking lot of a mall.

He doesn't trust you but sends his kid? lol "Here son, I'd rather something happen to you instead of me"

that was the best part for me lol I sat in my car, only with the window down and he was,"give the game to the nice man"....in my head i was,"im not a killer, i just want the game cheap"

I'm slightly envious of you guys finding so many bargains. Some people price their items, even when they are boxed new, at a similar price to what an online retailer offers which I find pretty odd

I've done countless trades and deals.

We usually meet up at a local Mcdonalds or gas station. On the rare occasion, the buyer will come by my house to buy said game.

Last CL deal I did was sell my PS3 around Christmas to an old man looking for a gift for his grandson. I hooked him up with all sorts of games, controllers, books and stuff.

Also, prank calling on craigslist. Fun.

I sold my DS Lite on Craigslist and recently I got 13 free complete in box PC games that were surprisingly not shit. I also got a Game Boy Micro Famicom edition in great condition for 20 bucks a while ago with a few games. Buying and selling stuff on Craigslist isn't as weird as some people make it out to seem.

There's a CD-i with 18 complete games up on my city's Craigslist page right now that I'm trying to snatch up.

I bought a Mac Pro 2008 off there. The guy I bought it from was cool as hell. I want to work with him on some media stuff in the future, actually.

I've got and sold plenty of good stuff. The trick is just to meet at a public place with lots of witnesses.

The best thing I've got is the 4 Layton games for $20.

Sold my Nintendo Gamecube on there a few years back for about $150. We met at the local mall, she just a broke soccer mom trying to give her kids something nice for Xmas. Super glad it was nothing shady.

Is that how this porn is going to play out.

On a lighter note, my uncle always buys his electronics from Craigslist and they seem to work fine for the most part.

I bought my previous car and my current couch off CL. Also tickets to sporting events. The bed my ex and I had came from CL as well. And I met her through CL.

Oh, and I found a contracting gig through CL at one point! And possibly my first place out of college, I can't recall now.

In those cases, at least for me, I do that expecting people to talk the price down a little. I'll research the current prices of the item then set my price a bit lower so I don't feel like I'm ripping myself off too much while attracting people to click the ad.

Sold quite a few things on Craigslist.

PC monitor, old fat PS3, 2 cars, bought some games, and a few other things. Just be smart about it.
