Anyone got tips/tricks for Gamefly?

With the flood of games coming out this year, I figured I will get gamefly for the games I am less interested in, but still want to play. First games on this list are dying light and the order. Does anyone have any sure fire ways to make it so I get these in the first shipment.

From what I understand they obviously do not have enough copies for everyone, so they just randomly pick people? A few years ago i read that if you put the game as the only thing in your list then they send it you? Does this still work? or are there other similar tricks?

One last question, are there any good deals on gamefly anywhere? Anyway to get discounts, coupons, etc? I know about the first month being free, but after that is there any way to save on it?

I would just use redbox, but they seem to not want to expand current gen games out of a few select locations.

Order a 3 month gift card from their website and send it to yourself. Last I checked it still worked and it comes to something like $28 for 3 months

Plan ahead. Place the games you want in your Q, well before they release. Keep your Q small. I usually have three games in my Q and usually I get the games I want, new release or otherwise.

I get the 3 month gift certs. Only keep games you really want in your Q. When a release is coming, make sure you only have that release in your Q.

ooh, thats pretty good. Are you able to put your subscription on hold between dead months so you dont waste subscription time?

Edit: seems like they raised it to 36.50 for a 3 month gift card

Edit 2: nvm. 36.50 is for 2 games out at once. You are correct lol

Take The Order out. Only leave one game in your queue at a time. I've noticed when I have multiple games in queue, it takes way longer for them to ship one.

Then, when Dying Light ships, put The Order back in. Repeat process for the year.

Switch to one game at a time for the lower price and I'm not sure about holds, I don't think so though.

1. Don't return games on fri, sat, or sun
2. Don't return games on or the day before a federal Holiday
3. Try returning games on Mon or Tues, you'll hopefully get one in time for the weekend

Honestly Gamefly needs a "I don't care which game on my queue you send me just give me the fastest turn around time possible"

Say I got a 2 game at a time subscription. Can you get two of the same game at once, so i can share with a friend

Well I don't think you can add the same game to a Q twice. So you would have to add the game again, after the first game already shipped. Honestly I think it would be more practical just to play different games and then switch when you are bored/done but I guess it could work never had a reason to get the same game twice.

I miss the Austin, TX distribution center. I guess they closed it, now all my games come from Missouri. I swear sometimes the games seemed like they got here the next day.

I used to try and cheat the system by putting a game in my mailbox, then reporting a shipping issue on the website. They'd immediately mark the game as returned, and ship me something else (if available). I guess they caught on to that though, because the last time I did it, two days later I got an email saying they weren't confident in their ability to provide me good service based on all of my shipping issues and were canceling my account. So don't do that. I guess they need new money though, a few months ago I started getting $1 special offers in my email and they allowed me to restart.

If you want new releases, make sure you return the game you have out in time for it to be checked in the Monday before the game comes out. Because that's when they ship them out. You send something back and it's not there until Tuesday, you're SOL.

I have tried this before and they say it is not allowed. Maybe it's different now. I really think it's as simple as their inventory system just can't process someone having the exact same game out twice at the same time.

Like other people said, the single most important thing is to always have an empty spot in your games out alongside a queue with only the game you want on release available. That way you get priority and they have no choice but to send that game. This works 100% of the time if you do it right, which isn't too hard really.

I've gotten games on release day doing this so it's a fantastic way to playing all the new stuff you're not willing to drop 60 bucks on. Unfortunately, if you miss that opening chance, you're pretty much fucked sometimes. Games will go from pre-release to low availability on launch day and then sit that way for months.

I have the 2 game plan and like it. With a little planning, I am generally playing one new game I have wanted to play and have a game a bit deeper into my "wishlist".

Honestly speaking, if you really want a game, keep a spot open for it several days before release and have that game and only that game in your que. If you don't get it within 2 days, you are not going to get it for the next 2 months unless you are willing to keep a spot open for it for weeks. That said, I have generally been happy with Gamefly.

It is in Kansas City. Minutes from me :P

I've been a member for like 9 years now, never missed a new release I wanted. All the tricks posted so far are valid. Here's my take:

- Number of games in your queue doesn't matter, as long as stuff isn't released you're ok. I basically have my Q in order of future release dates. Right now it extends out to like June 2015 (I think Batman is the last game in my queue, and Dying Light is the next one queued up).

- Send game back on Wednesday (or Thursday at the absolute latest) if you want that next Tuesday's new release to ship. They often ship new releases on Monday even so you'll have your game a day or two after it comes out, tops. I have Dying Light as my next game on the 27th, so I'll ship back one of my games on the 21st (Wed) and I'll have it the next week.

-Use the gift card trick, I basically set up a Google Calender alert on my smartphone for every 89 days. Sends me a notification and I go and buy another 3 months before my current gift card plan is expire. Been doing this for about a year. Comes out to roughly 12 bucks a month for 2 games out.

-Take advantage of sales, or even the "Keep It" if it's a game you want to buy anyways. Have them ship it to you the week it releases and you'll pay 44.99 as the "used" price. But you're the only one who ever had the game. As you're a member longer you get 10% discounts and 5 dollar coupons ever 3 months.

-The 5 dollar coupons can stack, but ONLY on the day you get a new one. So it's 10 dollars off something every 6 months. If you don't utilize this you'll lose the old 5 dollar coupon when you get a new one, so pay attention!

Basically GameFly is great for playing every new release if you manage it and are organized. I see a lot of complaints about shipping and "I DIDNT GET MY GAME" when someone has 100 games in their queue, but that's not how it has to be. Decide how you want to use the system and then plan accordingly.

I looked at this but they say they're not for existing customers? Is there any risk of them not working? or can you pretty much use these for a cheaper subscription?

It has always said that, literally for years and it has always worked for me. Buy it, send it to your email. Use it when your subscription is expired to renew. I use them after my subscription has expired so I've never tested if they can be added to on a current subscription.

So I've been a Gamefly member for a long time but I recently ubsubbed for a few months then re-upped, but now I'm curious...

Is the Gamefly 3-month certificates loophole still working for existing members? I know this gets asked every so often but had to check in to verify

Thanks guys!

Yup, just checked. They have Two Months for $20 (two out at a time), which if you buy two comes out to 4 months for the same price as 3-months directly from GameFly.

Awesome, but still curious if the certificates are still valid for existing users despite the language used "for new customers only" being written explicitly?

And is that groupon deal only for the "two games out" sub? I'm at work and can't visit GameFly. Stupid firewall.

Yes, Groupon has 1-out and 2-out (1-out is $10 for two months and 2-out is $20 for two months). I don't know if the Gift Certificates still work as I haven't had GameFly for months now (used to do the 3-month certificates with two out at a time).

I still do the gift certificate thing, yes. My current one is up in three weeks, so I'll need to do another soon.

Last questions:

And for Groupon, does it work for existing members or only new? And is it a limited time thing or can the deal be used multiples times?

Sorry for all the questions, just sucks not being able to look it up here at work.

Thanks again!

Only having the newly realeasing game in queue has worked for me 10/10 times and counting.

I get the games 5 days late, but I saved so much money.

Gift certificates still work.

The tips shared already are good. If you want a new release game, you will need a open queue spot several days before release or you risk not getting that game for a very long time.

And BOOM! Perfect. Trying to find ways to save money monthly and I remember using the certificate trick a year ago but wasn't sure about it now.

And same goes for me. I live a state away from their LA shipping center so I get new games 2 days from when they release. Just got Phantom Pain this morning!

I assume Groupon just gives you a Gift Certificate code (the same as you would get from buying a Certificate through GameFly). But I cannot answer that with any certainty as I have not bought a GameFly subscription through Groupon. But as another person has confirmed, the actual Gift Certificates do still work for existing members. Groupon does have an Ask a Question option on the page, probably better to find out exactly how the subscription is distributed.

Heh, must be nice. I live a state away from a Shipping Center and sometimes it would take over a week to receive a game (and over a week to ship it back). When that started happening consistently is when I dropped my subscription. It used to be very good, I would receive a game a day after release. I cannot say how it is now as I have not had a subscription in about a year.

And just to close the loop on all this, I went ahead and did the 3 month certificate thing and it worked. Whew!
