My promotion with TWC is ending and I see that Earthlink is available in my area, which just users the TWC network. I use other services like this (Cricket which uses AT&T) and they've worked out fine. Anyone gone from TWC to Earthlink or have Earthlink? They said they can do the whole change over in ten minutes and even cancel TWC for me. Their promotion runs about $15 cheaper a month and $5 cheaper when it runs out. At which point I'll probably just switch back to TWC.

Update: Done, and it's a legit option. Billed and run through TWC. You can actually just activate it through TWC. Great option for cord cutters looking for a new promotional rate to bounce between every 6 months. Their plans do cap out at 20/2 though.

I honestly didn't know Earthlink still existed. I had experience with them about 15 years ago, probably.

Ya I was totally shocked, seems they are a bare bones mvno type service now. Apparently they even use TWC support center. Makes sense if your are a cord cutter and just want no frills internet deal. Wonder how reliable it is though?

Lol should update title to within the last year

Same. I used to love them, they were my first broadband connection(dsl).

Edit. If I remember correctly the guy or one of the guys that started it got busted for running some kind of Ponzi scheme. Way back.. Not completely sure.

Edit 2. Yep

I have experience.

A two hour experience trying to get it to work on my dad's PC back in 1996. I finally fucking gave up.

How's your current Time Warner service?

Maybe Earthlink would have different data caps and speed options, I don't know? TWC at least in my area doesn't have data caps at all.

But, if they are just re-selling Time Warner service, outages and performance should be the same I'd think.

Memories.

They had decent DSL before the cable companies ate their lunch.

Their customer service was alway top notch when I used to use them.

It's garbage, but can't get anything else in my apartment. Earthlink has service options up to 20/2 (TWC can go up to 50/5). I'm on 15/1 right now and the equivalent on Earthlink is $15 cheaper. I can't find anywhere on their website about caps though and/or if their bandwidth may be throttled in favor of TWC customers during peak hours, etc...Mostly what I'm concerned about.

I haven't used them as an ISP for 10 years or so but they're still my main e-mail account.

This is the same for me, along with the "I used earthlink for PSO" comments in here too. Earthlink DSL so I could play PSO on my Xbox, heh.

Switching now, if not back in 30 I'll send a letter asking for help. For science! My ultimate hope is I can just switch between the two every 6 months getting the best promotions.

So after some confusion totally not related to Earthlink, all set up. (My TWC account actually had the wrong zipcode and the Earthlink rep couldn't find my location because of it)! After that it was a five minute process and I'm back down to $30/month for Internet.

Turns out it's actually a bit faster than TWC. I'm getting around 17 down and 1.25 up where before I'd actually cap out at 15 down and 1 up.

Weird thing is it's totally run by TWC still, billed through them, run trough them, support through them. Still confused how it all works but it's cheaper and better.

I think I may be the only person in the world that has Cricket and Earthlink as their communcation platforms :P

I have been using Earthlink Cable for must be nearly 10 years now. They use TWC network like you said. Can't really complain, since they are cheaper than the alternative, and no data cap.

Not anything special, but it works as intended.
