It will be interesting to see how the supply improves over Q1.
I wonder how well the Ps3 is going to do in America. Seems that USA loves Sony.
I didn't say it was catching fast...sonycowboy said:So, it's only ~700k behind the original Xbox now?![]()
Why do you say that? For how much you participate in the numbers game on GAF, I think you're quite cynical (especially when the news is good for Sony).sonycowboy said:Overall, the numbers are horrible IMO. Every single one of them.

Nintendo sold more handhelds than Sony, so they're winning.
sonycowboy said:January is traditionally a VERY strong month for Video games, but it doesn't appear so this year. I wonder if that will also be reflected in software sales which could be ugly.
year-over-year
PS2 sales are down by 44%
Xbox sales are down by 63%
GCN sales are down by 41%
GBA sales are down by 41%
DS sales are down by 4%
True, there are two new platforms but even with that the sales are down 8% vs last year.
Horrible, IMO.

NOA is entirely to blame IMO, some really stupid decisions.
Stopping the Nintendogs bundle was just insane ( although I'm surprised it sold as well as it did in the US considering those awful US ads) and only having silver, red and electric blue DS's when most of the female gamers won't touch a DS unless it's pink.
They really should just admit they were stupid and flood the market with Nintendogs bundles again.

Yeah, the original xbox had a pretty bad 2002 until the price drop. But it had already sold some 1.8M in 2001.GhaleonEB said:Fun fact: In the first January for the XBox, it sold 128k. So the 360 is catching up. (139k in February)

I do not see Sony dropping the price as long as the PSP sells that goodPSP looks primed to have a sales explosion in the USA soon with a 50 dollar price drop.

MS gave up on Xbox
Nintendo gave up on Gamecube
PS2 is *still* $150 a year later
360 still having shortage problems
Whenever MS (or Sony or Nintendo) say sold, they mean sold to retailers, only if they say it is sold to customers there is a chance it actually is sold through.sonycowboy said:3) Microsoft claimed 900k sold through December and the thought was ~shipments hit late and didn't get a chance to be counted in Decembers sales. Given that there were multiple shipments in January (my local EB had 3 - one quite large), I'd say their claim of "sold" was BS. It was shipments, just like Sony

The Take Out Bandit said:You know, maybe I'm giving it too much credit - but is it possible that finally having demo kiosks at retail is giving consumers the chance to see gaming on the go outside of the handheld ghetto?
Hell - I'm a complete Sony mark, and I didn't see a PSP in action in person until about November / December at Best Buy, and even then it was crappy stuff like Hot Shots Golf and The Con. But still, for Joe Average consumer, that may be enough to push them over the edge.

I'm with Sonycowboy on this one. Pretty disappointing numbers all around. The only exception for me would be the PS2. 272,000 is still a pretty decent number for the month, and it had an unfair comparison with last January because of the built-up shortages during the holiday season. But everything else is just - meh.sonycowboy said:Horrible, IMO.
Aren't UMD movie sales a little less than half of all UMD sales?SolidSnakex said:No because we also know UMD's are selling well. I'm not saying the people who buy it don't care about games at all since you can look at the sales for the games in the US and tell they're selling well. But there are other reasons for its success too.
QFT. Seriously, what the fuck Nintendo? You might as well discontinue the DS.
I mean, I think the majority of gamers see it as something more than *just* a media device. I think they associate it with gaming first and foremost
