Im thinking of moving to a smaller and cheaper place and wanted to hear others who have lived in one or are living in one at the moment.

only in college, and there was usually a community kitchen or bathroom or something - actually, the studio i had sr year likely wasnt much bigger, and i made it work.

its nice to not have to live that way anymore, but if i had to? it might actually be easier now - with most of my books and games going digital, i can likely shed a lotta stuff and make space. i had a few footlockers & stackable storage bins like that, if that helps.

My apartment is under 450 square feet (approx. 40 m²). It's a nice studio, I have a separate bathroom (with plenty of space, it has a bathtub), a separate kitchen, a balcony, a big closet, it's in downtown Paris. Of course it always depends on the location and what you'll find around, but I'm not missing anything I can think of. I think I'm set for the rest of my single life.

Plenty of my friends live in apts that are around 200 sq ft. I've done it for like a year. It was fine too, you can squeeze in almost everything too. But it doesn't compare, of course.

It depends a lot on what kind of area you live in. Cheaper is nice, but a studio like that still costs over $9000 a month in Manhatten.

I live on basically half that, including bathroom and kitchen. No real problems with it, but then, I don't have that much stuff. Previously lived on 170, but that really was too small, couldn't even fit a proper table to eat at and what not.

All three apartments I've lived in (college) have been 400 sq. ft. or less. I think it's plenty of space. Apartment Therapy has an annual contest called "Small Cool" that showcases small, stylish places. I use the photos for inspiration all the time. In terms of price the places im looking at are 400-500 dollar range, I dont have many possessions and am wanting to not tie myself to a huge place. Also that youtube vid was crazy, I would need an apt with atleast a stove lol

I live a in 430-ish sq ft place and it's completely fine for me. Actually, the majority of single-room apartments are even smaller around here. Also, I'm living directly in the center of a (small-ish) city; second storey/third floor.

I have a ca. 170 sq ft bed/livingroom, a corridor with a battery of integrated closets, a bathroom with a bathtub and a kitchen that can fit a table in. (well also a tiny 17 sq ft "balcony" where I hang my clothes to dry).

Though I don't have THAT much things to store, the main offenders are basically clothes and gaming&tech related stuff.

That comment would be more appropriate for a 200 sq ft apt.

If you want to fit a big sofa with a chaise then it might possibly be an issue depending on the living room's design.

My studio is little over 400 square feet and it's roomy enough for now (student, finishing this year). It's basically L-shaped, have my 2-person bed in the upper part of the room, living room in the opposite side and kitchen in the 'short' part of the L. Have a balcony, windows and sun on all side, my own bathroom, hall and storage room. For €280 it's a steal - long live non-profit home corporations . The only thing I am missing is a seperate bedroom. Other then that I'd really wouldn't mind living here for a longer time.

500sq is pretty big for a studio apartment. I live in 350sq apartment and there's plenty of room left.

Edit: I have a big sofa, bed, shelf, kitchen table + "living room" table, all the kitchen stuff, big balcony, sauna etc.

Having your kitchen and bedroom in separate rooms (as it is in that link) does not make a studio apartment by my definition of the word.

*edit* On a more constructive note: I live in a 350 square foot apartment in Amsterdam. It's large enough for me by myself for sure. I've got a small kitchen/ dining area, a bathroom and a sleeping/ living room area. I never really feel cramped in, you just have to be creative with the way you're going to furnish it.

Kinda sucks.

If I had 250 I'd think I'd just run around my room all day. 500 should be a cakewalk.

Tips: You probably only need 20% of what you have now.
You can find a lot of multi use furniture/shelves/drawers.
Organize WHEN you move. Otherwise it will never get done and you will never use your space right.

When my sister was in school she had a 2br/1bath 400 sq ft apartment. It was....cozy. I think there was about 2 square feet of walkable area in the kitchen

Hah, it was me both times. I just really love some of the spaces and have been thinking a lot about how I want to set up the apartment I'm moving into next month.
