Anyone one else taking a break from Bloodborne to play Dark Souls 2?

I'd like you to elaborate a little. Not because I disagree with you since I've never played any of the other souls games but I have also been going for the platinum and I noticed that either I got REALLY good at this game or NG+ is pretty easy. Obviously I know all the enemies by now and know how to not get hit by them but it's weird when I am reminded how hard the game is in the forums when I barley die anymore.

Sure, in terms of gameplay, the lack of Stamina load management and having no primary ranged weapons, like magic or a bow, boils the game down to just a few playstyles. The lack of meaningful stat variances for clothing lets you look however you want, but takes away some depth. Applying elemental damage to your weapons doesn't seem to make as big a difference as with previous Souls games(Still not sure on this, but its how I've felt so far). Its a great game to go through; the atmosphere is great, the dashing components feel amazing, and the visceral attacks are great fun, but the replayability is stronger in past games.

These were all things that made running NG+ or a new character in a completely different way so appealing.

Basically got BB:CE day one but the tech/loading issues bummed me out. They quickly announced a patch to hopefully mitigate it somewhat so it just sits there unplayed.... and now Dark2 is coming out which I abruptly quit 50+ hours in because the PS4/XB1 edition was announced.
I'm thinking I'd just put BB away till Halloween or something (feel like it would be a GREAT game to play around that time) and instead just finish Dark2

Anyone else in a similar situation?

While the co-op and pvp portions have been flaky the load times have been a non issue for me. Sticking with BB, no rush on DaS2... didn't touch it on PS3 after playing the shit out of DeS and DaS1.

I Hopefully should be done with my NG+ playthrough and maybe get the plat in BB before DS2 comes out. Will definitely be making an attempt at DS2 though.

I already picked up my PS4 copy of DkS2 (which I've never played - I have played DeS and DkS1), but I do plan on finishing (well, going through once) BB before jumping into it. I will admit that I'm kind of itching to get to it right now though. Because even though I'm loving BB (and the consensus seems to be that it's a significantly better game), I do sometimes miss the brighter-but-still-pretty-dark fantasy aesthetic of Souls. BB is just so unrelentingly dark, grim and gothic, all the time. Don't get me wrong, I love how it looks and feels, but it has felt pretty samey so far (I'm not super far into it yet though, so maybe that changes later on). We'll see how I feel after another 10 hours of BB.

Already played DS2 on PC and am really into BB now, so no I wont be taking a break from BB.
I will probably get DS2 when it's cheap or on sale. But my next game on PS4 will be Toukiden Kiwami and after that MGSV TPP.

At the moment I'm too consumed by the world of Bloodborne. I've GOT to get every little nook and cranny I sensed I didn't get on my second playthrough.
Never in my life did I feel like going for a second playthrough, right after the ending credits stopped....

Spoiler??? Doubt it but I'll play it safe.
Apparently there are three alternate endings :()

I can't stop playing Bloodborne now. I'm in NG+ and while my Chikage +10 and Blades of Mercy +9 and Saw Cleaver +8 are serving me well, I still have to get my new scythe to respectable levels and get my Arcane to 40 so I can use all the arcane items. And then comes NG+2 and beyond which might end up being a whole different ballpark and I'll switch to a more pokey weapon. After that, though, maybe.

I bought SOTFS but upon playing the first hour I just wanted to go back to BB. I think I'll play another type of game for a while.

Nah, I'm only one trophy away from the BB Platinum atm. All I need to do is clear two more Chalice dungeons and I'm good to go.

If anything, I'm probably going to pass on DS2 until it's about $20. I'm burnt out on remasters of recent games, I'd rather wait for the Witcher or pick up Mordor and Inquisition.

Nope. Going to polish off the last bit of tedious chalice dungeon diving for the plat this weekend, in time for Dark 2's re-release on Tuesday.

Remasters drop in price so fast. I don't know why people would buy day 1, especially if you played it before. Play BB dude, loading not that bad. Just pop out your phone for a 30-40 seconds :) .

i disagree with meaningful stat variances. Try going after a fire spewing enemy with 270 defense compared to 175 defense in that regard, or lower. Difference is atleast an additional strike, maybe even 2. Can save you some vials depending on the attack.

there is armor for various resistances. This isn't steel plate or chainmail, it is leather and cloth and built around resistances.

Oh man, the two last bosses in the Defiled Chalice Dungeon were by far the toughest fights in the game for me. Not sure if it's because I played on NG+ or not, but having only 50% of your health really forces you to learn the boss's patterns and not make any mistakes. Bloodborne might be easier than the Souls games, but the Chalice dungeons really challenge you.

Nah, I'm too into Bloodborne--and still early as I'm just in the Woods--to even think about picking up DS2.

I'll probably give it a shot down the road. I have a bunch of other agmes to get through before I buy anymore. So I'll probably grab DS2 later on when its cheaper and I'm ready for another long, hard game.

I'm thinking of taking a break to play something like Axiom Verge. I like Bloodborne, but it will be much more enjoyable to me with better load times and an improved online experience. I also irrationally hope that they make blood vials work like estus flasks, because having to grind for them isn't fun :(

In a sense. I'm on the last 2 trophies (one actually) for Bloodborne so it's a bit of a grind, and just nabbed Dark Souls 2 to go through that when I don't feel like BB.

So not really a break, but I'm probably only putting an hour into BB at day at this point.

Played Dark Souls 2 a while back, so nope. If the PC version was cheaper for those who already own the DX9 version, I might have dipped in but the release date is far too close to BB for me to care at it's current price point.

It's similar to DeS with the vials, I doubt they'll change it. Are you using your storage box effectively? It took me very long to figure out that I could store 99 vials in there and have them restore the ones I had used up after I died without going to the box. What I did is try a boss 10-15 times until running out, do one level of a Chalice Dungeon to get 50000 souls or so, spend them all on vials and give the boss fight another shot with 50+ news vials. That's actually pretty close to infinite estus flasks and grinding takes like 5 minutes.

Not even close To being done with BB and probably wont be for a long time. The combat is so addicting and world so incredible that id have a very hard time going back to DaS2 regardless of its much better matchmaking.

I'm stockpiling vials every chance I get, and I still have to grind them out every so often. I'm definitely not at a spot in the game where I can do a quick run to get 50000 blood echoes to buy vials, I'm still farming them from Central Yarnham (I'm relatively early in - just killed the 2nd boss of the first chalice dungeon). Estus Flasks were a much more elegant system IMO, it really helped the pacing of those games.

Is bloodborne more linear than DS2?

I thought I had more options to explore in DS2 - so if I got frustrated at a boss I could explore a different area and level up (ie not just grind in that latest area to pass the boss to proceed to the next area)

I loved bloodborne for the first 20 hours or so but then found the game quite repetitive, probably because its limited to just weapons (whereas in DS games I typically get a combination of melee combat weapons, spells and miracles) and also because it feels linear, though that could just be that I havent been unlocking new areas correctly.

I see, early on I didn't like it either. But the prices of vials never go over 900 echos and once you're further into the game, vials become almost a non issue and very similar to estus flasks.

I'm pretty much done with BB. The game is great but I just can't find a reason to play through it more than once.

Yesterday I bought SotfS and will probably dive in it when I'm done with Pillars.
All the hate for dksII but even after 7 playthroughs I still have things I want to try.

I took a break from Bloodborne to play Mario 64. I don't see how substituting one game for another that's 90% similar is taking a break, but to each his own.

I thought Dark Souls 2 was considered to be vastly inferior to the other games according to another thread where everyone put Dark Souls 2 dead last in their list.

Yeah, for PvP.

I main Bone Claw + Caestus / Magic stuff. No lock rolling, shite stats,no fist weapons, and no magic this time around means BB doesn't scratch that itch.

Plus, Its too hard to fist someone to death when they're too busy back tracking & shooting you. :^).

Even if is the weakest souls game (debatable), that still means it's a pretty good game. If you like this kind of game, you will like Dark Souls 2.

Personally I prefer 2 to 1. I can't quite put my finger on why, I guess the environments. DS1 starting area to sens fortress is superb, I can't think of many other games that are so enjoyable in the front half. But most everything Anor Londo on just feels like such a chore to slog through, I couldn't bring myself to do it any more after a few times. I didn't have that problem with DS2, sure maybe it never *quite* hit the highs of the front half of DS1, but it far and away surpassed the lows. For me, it made it more enjoyable to keep replaying.

They are all good games, play them all, enjoy them all. I really like that they are all a bit different in mechanics departments, I don't need my sequels to just be a straight repeat. I like more that they try some things new.

Also, "DS2 is trash" is pure hyperbole. Take with a large helping of salt, and don't forget your're on GAF: 10 is perfect, 9.0 is good, 8.9 and under is unplayable garbage ;)

I might play it sometime in the future. I just don't see enough changed from vanilla DS2 that I want to go back quite yet. I find the Souls games fun but I'm not in love with them to where I replay them often.

It doesn't matter if there are a thousand of them. Why would I want to play an inferior game?

Because "inferior" is subjective. If you write off a game without playing it because you think it's inferior to another then you're going to have a laughably small amount of games to play. I suppose the Action RPG genre is dead to you now that you've seemingly played it's magnum opus. What a shame.

I'm currently about halfway through my BB NG+ playthrough and got Scholar of the First Sin the other day and put some time into that to get past Pursuer. And now sitting in front of the two games, I find myself wanting to play Dark Souls 2 a lot more. I'm trying a brand new build I've never done before and had never done the DLC before so I'm actually really excited to get back into it. And I've really liked the changes that SotFS has brought to it. Meanwhile while I felt Bloodborne was a lot of fun the first time though, this second playthrough is kinda dragging. I dunno, I'll probably play them both somewhat simultaneously but for the time being I see myself erring on the side of Dark Souls 2.

I think I'll probably be done with my first playthrough of Bloodborne when Ds2 comes out so I'll just play that instead of immediately going to NG+

Don't think many hate it. It's just the language that muddies it up. Some say "worst Souls game" which is just another way of saying "least favorite Souls game."

I think carrying the name Dark Souls 2 also hurt it a bit, it's hard to follow up on a game that some people see as a masterpiece. It may have been received better if it was a differently named Souls game so it wouldn't carry lofty expectations.

Even though I love Bloodborne, I still don't want to play any other Souls games.

I understand they are great games, but the reason I love Bloodborne is the fast paced combat and the amazing Victorian design. But hey, I could get persuaded...

Since I played the game on PS3 I will wait for remasters drop price so will keep with BB for next months until and wait for DLC, this year FROM's games will consume most of my playing time.
