Anyone pick up NCAA 07 for PSP? WTF EA??

I picked this up last night along with my 360 pre-order. Impulse buy. I have been flip-flopping back and forth whether to crack the seal or not. Gameplay impressions have been really positive except for a potentially game breaking rushing bug where the ball gets spotted 3-4 yards less than you actually gained.

For whatever reason that did not dissuade from just now ripping the shrink rap off. (I blame the heat) Anywho, game loads up....quick loads....looking good.

Then....BAM!

First sign of trouble....Pitt is #23????? Huh? It's then that I notice that all of the teams are ranked what they were the year before last. WTF???? I groaned but then I realized that I will be playing in Dynasty and the pre-season rankings won't matter much.

BOOM!

I then notice that team ratings seem to be a bit off from the 360 version I played last night. WTF again? I hit quick play...select my teams...and away we go. Again...Not too bad loading.

Then WHAM!

Generic stadiums!!!?? (Actually I knew this going in but I wanted to add more shock value to this post. I realize actual stadiums for all 119 teams on the PSP version would be a tall order...but this is still...how you say....le shittay.)

Then POP! (editors note: that was the actual sound I heard in my head at this point.)

LAST YEAR'S ROSTERS? Holy mother of Trip Hawkins! What did I just purchase? A yearly update that is a year too late?? I honestly had thought I bought 06 by mistake until I realized there wasn't a 06 released for PSP last year!

I am furious. How hard would it have been for them to update the roster? All the other versions are correct. Now I have to try to explain to my daughters why Pat White is a back-up QB rated at 78 and Steve Slaton is not even on the roster. :(

I didn't even bother playing more than a couple of plays. I feel so owned right now. :(*

*-There are not enough frowning smilies in the world to convey my sadness right now.

Yeah I noticed the rankings and players but I never noticed the rushing bug, I actually really enjoyed playing it.

I'm always skeptical with sports sims on handhelds (except for golf). Pretty safe bet the game will be gimped compared to its console cousin and hard to control.

I'm avoiding all handheld football games this year...

Just this year?

I never really understood portable football anyway. It plays like ass compared to the big boys and it's not "pick up and play" enough to make for a quick portable experience. Do the people who do by these games play them out of the house or in? Do you have to put the system into sleep mode in the middle of a game? Or do you just play fast quarters?

I got the game because I graduated and got season tickets to my schools games, which is 5 hr away so I figured it would be fun to play on the way.

:lol :lol

It's an EA football game where you DON'T EVEN GET THE ROSTER UPDATE.

My god sir, what then DID you pay for?

The weird thing though is that for the most part the rosters are updated, there are just some players that are in the game that shouldn't be.

If the gameplay is all that, I probably wouldn't care about the rankings and rosters. I mean, if you are doing the dynasty thing, after the first season it won't matter too much anyway. Not trying to give it a pass, just stating what is important to me.

How is the gameplay?

Well I can't speak for every team but WVU's roster is identical to what it was in last year's version.

the OP metioned a bug where you don't always get all the yardage on runs, I just played another game to see if it happened to me, I haven't notice anything (doesn't mean it isn't there. The game loads pretty quick compared to some other PSP games, and once the actual gam starts there is never really anyloading unless you go to the depth chart and stuff. IMO the controls are pretty good, because there isn't a left stick you hold down the L button and one of the face buttons to do a move I think ( you tap L to do an auto juke), no framrate problems. Then there are new things for '07 like the different views for punts and kicks, and the new kick meter which works fine with the stick.

Tennessee's is this years I think except the DT's are from last year? There is no Reggie Bush, Vince Young, I know that.

I can confirm the rushing bug is there.

If you get hit and drag the tackler for a few yards...the ball will be spotted where the initial contact was made. Sometimes even worse. I just ran a play...got hit at the 15 yard line...dragged the tackler and fell with the nose of the ball past the 20...the ball was spotted at the 13. In the very next play...it happened again.

Once again...... :(

Alright I am going to try and see what happens

Yeah, this rushing bug is scaring me off a little, sounds like the loading times are much better than Madden PSP, but how that bug got through I have no idea.

Yup the bug is there, and happens if you get hit and fall forward you definately get spotted where the guy hits you. It wasn't game breaking to me but if I was in a big play and it kept me from getting a first down, there would be hell to pay.

Edit: The commentary is messed up too sometimes. I just returned a punt for a touchdown to take a 31-0 lead and they were talking about how it was "too little too late" WTF?

Yeeeesh. Gonna skip this one and wait for the hopefully much improved Madden 07 for PSP.

Ok I played one more game to try to figure it out, it seems to happen sometimes, it doesn't always happen. I don't consider it a big deal, since it has happened 1 time to me in 10 games and I didn't get like 2 yeards. IMO it doesn't distract from the game at all but I am pretty easy to please. This is best portable football game there is (not saying much I know). I also find lowering the quarters to 3 mins instead of 5 works better for a handheld experience. I am actually very pleased with this game.

hahahha, I knew better than to let EA dick me for the 2nd year in a row. I refuse to purchase another shittay EA game for the PSP EVAAAR!

Now I have to decide if Im getting Madden for the 360....

Because I am that damn good?

Seriously though...in my original post I meant that the rushing bug was being mentioned on other forums. I didn't actually see the bug until I played it again. I was too busy crying about the rosters during my first play.

How IGN wrote a review and not mention the roster and team ranking stuff is beyond me.

It's IGN... you should expect them to leave out important facts about a game.

Yeah! The first thing I did was scan their review for even the slightest mention of the rushing bug and there was nothing. Nothing about the rosters either! How can they even consider themselves to be credible?

I can see the roster thing being left out. But the rushing thing seems to be hard to miss.

So can they fix the rushing bug with a patch, or is the game forever broken?

Didn't they recall some copies of Madden PSP last year because it had some bug in it? I thought they rereleased it at some point with the bug fixed.

To be fair from what I have played it can be hard to notice if you are tackled a certain way, and even then sometimes it is fine. But the first thing people do is look and see team rankings and player stats and having Tennessee as #2, USC #1, and DeAngleo Williams still being in the game was easy to pick up

EA has issued a "response" on their support page now

Question

Why is my yardage incorrect when I run the ball?
Answer

During running plays the ball will be spotted at point of first contact where the tackle is initiated. The ball will not be spotted where the player is ultimately taken down.

In other words they aren't fixing it.

:lol

EA: If it's in the game....it's....errrr...we make up new rules.

The nice lady at EB let me return my copy as long as I spent the money in the store. Thank you nice EB lady. Thank goodness the 360 version is solid.

If its in the game...:lol

EA is a freaking joke. So now they're changing to rules of football around their lack of attention to detail.

How can something like that be overlooked?

Goodness, I love Madden and football just like any other gamer but how anyone in their right mind can defend the ineptitude (and my possible lack of spelling) of EA is beyond me. There isn't an EA fanboy on this site that can defend this. I loved NFL2K and I realize that it was inferior to EA's contributions in certain aspects but....at least when you got the game you could run the ball....:lol

Not only is EA taking out the content of current gen games but before you know it we'll have to wait 2 iterations before we can get yards after catch.

Q: When my WR catches the ball and runs into the endzone it isn't a TD?
EA: For Madden/NCAA 2008 the play is dead as soon as the WR catches the ball. Deal with it.

Holy shit, that's hilarious! :lol Video looks good though otherwise.. shame for portable football gamers.

Is it also definitely confirmed that it's 05 rosters on the PSP version like people are saying, because that strikes me as almost more lazy. Another year at USC for Reggie Bush I guess...

Yep.

I can confirm WVU's is the same. The rankings/ratings were all the same for most of the teams as 05 from what I could see. Maybe they took out some of the big name Seniors such as Bush, Young, etc. to fool some people though.

Wow, EA has to fix this? I can't believe their response. The game is broken as is. If I had NCAA 07 PSP, I would demand my money back from EA.

Does PSP allow for patches? Would be better then sending in for a new disc.

I don't know about ebay but I preordered the game at a Gamestop cause I got 20 dollars credit for world cup 06, so I went in there today and they told me they would give me my money back! So thats what I am doing.

IGN revised their review/score as this apparently wasnt in the review version :lol :lol :lol :lol

http://boards.ign.com/psp_general_board/b7159/122500120/p1/?8

[Editor's Note: The build that IGN initially received for the review of NCAA Football 07 for the PSP did not feature the "running game glitch" currently included in the retail disc. As an IGN policy, all games labeled "review" by the publisher are treated and understood to be the final build of the game. However, having played the retail version of NCAA Football 07 since our article was posted on July 17, we have discovered that the consumer UMD is different from the build we were given. As a result, we have re-evaluated the game and adjusted our text and review score to accurately reflect the quality of the final retail version.]

Yeah, the cynic in me would say that this conveniently didn't come out from IGN until it was all over the web and the early adopters had all picked it up yesterday and today, but that's a little too conspiracy theory-ish for me.
