Anyone tempted about picking a NX up throwing everything else away?

You're crazy, OP.

And so am I.

Last gen I had an X360, a Wii U and a 3DS. I eventually sold both the X360 and the 3DS because I just didn't have enough time to play so many games. I kept the Wii U because I could get my gaming fix in quick sessions with games such as Super Smash Bros and Super Mario Kart. I have no regrets, I had a great time with my Wii U.

As soon as Nintendo formally announces the NX and we know what it's all about, I'll probably do the same. In fact, a friend of mine is already in line to buy my Wii U.

What I mean is: if you don't have lots of free time, focusing on a single console is probably a good idea. However, you should probably wait until the NX is unveiled, just in case.

In a word, no.

I don't think putting all of your eggs in one basket is wise, let alone what kind of basket you're even putting your eggs into. We know almost nothing about it, how can you be so sure you'll like it?

Similar cring-iments. No, never. Ever.

If anything, I'll sell off the NX if it proves to be an unworthy investment.

What's the last time going exclusively Nintendo wasn't a terrible idea? SNES?

Up until the last two years of Wii, I think a case could be made for going exclusively with Nintendo hardware. I mean, assuming you're a big Nintendo fan, of course .

I could never do it though. There's too much other great content on other devices. If I had been an adult during the 16-bit era, for example, there's no way I could only own a SNES.

Bit early for that and most commenters are just gonna laugh at you and think you're crazy

Time will tell, and by throw away I would sell on ebay XD

I mean that sounds like a good idea if you only care about playing 3-4 games a year.

Nintendo consoles are great supplementary systems, but there's no fuckin way I'd use them as my main gaming device.

Hell no, the concept of a single piece of hardware getting all of Nintendo's 1st party is enough to sell me one on launch day but I like western 3rd parties too much.

Sure mate. Watch me throw my PC out of the window. Lol

If anything, the form factor of the NX is making me want a PS4 Neo a bit more.

Bruh.

Wait until Nintendo actually reveals the damn thing before thinking of limiting yourself. Plus, we don't even know the launch titles besides a few obvious picks.

Even if the NX turns out to be the greatest thing ever, I wouldn't "throw everything else away."

edit: in fact, I wouldn't throw anything away.

Sure I love gambling on an unknown quantity. It makes me feel alive. Hell if anyone wants to trade me a box with something unknown in it I'll give you my Mum.

I..don't see why you would do that, even if you do spend most of your (future) time playing the NX. It's a general rule of thumb for me to never sell consoles, you'll never know what might end up being exclusive to a platform but in your case, you might be alright selling your Xbone considering Microsoft is bringing most of their exclusives to PC.

When I get an NX I will cut all ties with my friends, family, everyone and everything. It will be NX and me until the end of time.

Yes OP please sell all your stuff in anticipation of a system that is a follow up to terrible system. Please Please Please do that. The follow up thread should be hilarious.

Throwing away all my consoles, selling my house, burning my clothes, crushing my car. Now to live a nomadic life in the wilds with nothing but my NX. Hope it runs off solar power.

When we actually know anything about the nx, I may think about picking one up to compliment my pc, however thinking about getting rid of any other hardware seems odd to say the least.

I do agree with the sentiment of your OP of wanting to have a more flexible gaming ecosystem for each of my consoles. For example, a better PS4 portable experience on the Vita and an equivalent easy to pick up expereince for the XB1/PC (despite the market unlikelihood of this happening). But I disagree with the rest. You don't even know (for sure) what the NX is!

oh yeah i am definitely going to throw away my hundreds of games and trash the different platforms i use any given week.

I'd never ever do this. I'd miss out on so many (potentially) awesome games NX won't have the slightest chance of getting.

While I'm intrigued by the idea of a hybrid portable/console system from Nintendo, there's no way I'm going NX only in the future. There are simply too many upcoming PS4 exclusives that I can't ignore(or to be specific, The Last Guardian is finally coming out soon) so I might as well get a PS4K/Neo this year. No reason you can't enjoy both.

I'd give up the chance to play plenty of great games for what, the opportunity to only play the umpteenth Mario and more mediocre Fire Emblems?

Nah, I'm okay.

I too, want to toss away the majority of my video game software and hardware to buy a machine I know nothing about

Lol.
I know what you mean OP. The days of marathon gaming are over for me. I play in small burst, 20 minutes here and there, maybe a hour before bed. I'm keeping all my consoles though.

Witcher avatar poster looks forward to never having to play another Witcher game.
