Aonuma speaks on Zelda Wii U and next 3DS Zelda

I'd love for Nintendo to come up with different art styles for both systems, playing of the graphical strengths of both. There needs to be a next water color effect like in Valkyria Chronicles or toon shading like Wind Waker. Wouldn't it be cool if the next console Zelda used pointilism or broader brush strokes to make it look like a painting come to life?

I will not list wars you. But SMW is the best platformer ever. Just know that you're wrong.

In what parallel universe is SMW a better platformer?

2D Zelda will never be as good as ALttP or LA ever again, so I don't think there's much of a point.

3d Zelda will never be as good as OoT/MM/WW/TP ever again, so I don't think there's much of a point. See what I just did?

Let Capcom do a Zelda game like Resident Evil. A survival fantasy adventure where you have to find herbs out in the forest and fairy fountains and you have limited rupees, arrows and deku nuts the entire game.

Forget Resi, let Capcom do another Oracle game.

He gave me one highly suggestive hint, leading me to believe that the team is further along than just thinking about the new title: "It will be a game in which having 3D will mean something."

Miyamoto did say he would like to remake LttP with 3D effects for different layers, so there could be a top-down game that incorporates 3D effects in that way.

spirit tracks was terrible. The rest were good. LA is god tier.

no, it wasn't

I don't expect a Zelda 3DS until 2013, not expecting realistic style because of the screen and OOT 3D. Probably a mix between WW and ALTTP, which will be goooooooood

They should just licence out Zelda to some dev who could fart out awesome 2D Zeldas like Flagship could. I'd say Wayforward, but I'm honestly not sure if they'd live up to expectations.

Spirit Tracks is an awesome game full of pure Zelda goodness, wrapped around a shitty train-driving game.

I stopped playing when they pulled out the "pitch black dungeon where you can fall into holes" card. No thanks.

I don't even remember that one. I'm guessing you had to sketch a route on the map to traverse it?

And the train stuff was cool at the end, agreed. That first train segment of the end-game, that was hard... for me at least, lol.

right at the end.
That was such a dick move.
Alternatively, they could have implemented a sensible warp system like in any other Zelda game.

But you beat Zelda 2, where you do just that at the beginning?

I'm pretty sure the boomerang will make it into the 3DS version, but WILL THERE BE BOOMERANG IN THE WII-U VERSION?!!!! WILL THERE?!?!?!?!
There better be. The boomerang is what makes a Zelda game Zelda.

They need to buff it though. The next boomerang should be as deadly as the one in Link's Awakening.

I wish Aonuma's team would just focus on a new IP for 3DS, instead of churning out yet another Zelda. The poor guys really need a break from the series. A remake of Majora's Mask should be good enough to satisfy any cravings for a handheld Zelda anyway.

And please, no Wind Waker-style graphics for Wii U. A graphical style akin to Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword would be better served by the move to "current gen" graphics anyway.

You know...they could stick to Wind Waker graphics for handhelds, since now with the 3DS, they should be able to accurately mimic Gamecube level shading/animations right? Maybe even surpass it...(wishful thinking here).

Oh snap. I'd play that, remake complainers can go sit an a corner.

3DS is supposed to have much better shaders than the Wii. I'm assuming we could get an awesome Wind Waker true sequel.

you're braver than me, I stopped playing immediately when I found out the only way to control the game was with the stylus.

I want to see Nintendo continue the product line they started with Wind Waker which went on to spawn Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks on DS. This series is great, in my opinion, and I'd love to see another entry on 3DS.

In the mean time, I too want to see a more realistic graphic style in the next console Zelda. The look of the E3 demo is fine (loved the superb lighting!). I just want a world and characters that are supremely detailed, in terms of polygon counts, textures and visible armour, items and weapons. Proportions don't have to be realistic, but the sheen that covers the world needs to be. Like someone else has said, Twilight Princess in HD is a good starting point, but ramp up the detail times a thousand and blow us out of the water with its graphical fidelity. That would definitely make me happy.

Your avatar is awesome. Yeah, Capcom doing another Zelda using WW artstyle.
Isn't the team who made the Oracles etc at Nintendo abyway? Iirc it was the same team pretty much who made the DS Zeldas

Hope the next 3ds zelda is... well portable. OoT is a good game, but man that game is a horrible portable game. Odd that they didn't bother adding the option to 'quicksave' on the spot or add some kind of autosave function. I've lost probably 1-2 hours of dungeoning because 3ds died. doesn't help that the battery indicator is pretty low. Kinda hard to see if your focusing on the top screen.

It's getting real gimmicky now. Don't know if I can put up with obligatory 3D in my Zelda-games.

I doubt it will be gimmicky. Think about how they are showing Mario 3D land. They said that the 3D actually matters there, and it does, but not as a gimmick. The 3D simply helps the platforming aspect due to better judgment of depth.

MINISH CAP is the best 2D Zelda game since LA. and for all the homages to LTTP, Minish Cap comes closest. I want Capcom to do something like that, if they can't do something unique.

I believe Flagship developed the Oracle games.

Wasn't everyone complaining that the 3D in the 3DS is useless because no game actually uses it to its advantage?

And now that Nintendo is interested in making a Zelda game that actually requires the function and would put it to great use, everyone is pissed?

I'm so confused.

the Oracle games destroy Minish Cap, which is still a good game but highly overrated, my opinion mang
