Apocalypse arrives. Vault or Wasteland?

With my wife and daughters? Vault.
No amount of 'freedom' would be worth a group of desperate bandits doing whatever they want with them if we are caught out away from a defended settlement. In the Vault there's still a chance that life could move on, further reproduction could happen, and the Vault settlement could eventually leave and survive as a unit on the outside. Small chance, but it's there.
On my own? Wasteland.
Could move around and adapt quicker. If I'm killed at least I don't have to deal with the horror of bad things happening to my family.

Opposite for me.
After reading WOOL, I never want to be trapped inside a vault or any other facility, never to know the outside world for possibly hundreds of years.
Wasteland all day.
Current rough tally indicates that there are 28 gaffers for the wasteland and 21 for the vault.
I say us wasteland gaffers band together and form out little band of marauders. I've heard of this vault out there that's filled with good stuff. We'll go there, kill them all and crack open their heads and feast on their gooey brains. I've heard human brains was heavenly with a nice red wine reduction.

Have you guys ever seen Hiroshima after the bomb? Now imagine the whole world like that and it's simply uninhabitable.
The worse part probably isn't all the destroyed buildings but seeing dead bodies littered everywhere. No thanks, I wouldn't want my mind exposed to that.

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to start in the Vault, and then for some reason you have to leave the Vault to explore the Wasteland in order to fix something broken in the Vault or someshit. And then you get caught up in some quest which ends up with you saving the world, because who the fuck else is going to save it?

Fuck the Vault. I'd rather face the unknown out in the wastes than spend the rest of my life cramped in close-quarters with people I probably hate.

I'd like to think I'm an outdoorsman in some fashion so I know I could make due and survive in the wasteland. I mean, I camp and shit a lot and I own a ton of camping outdoors gear. I carry a day pack often, which has survival gear (gps, walkie talkies, knives, water, matches, first aid kit etc..)in it, practical urban gear as well but it doubles as a diaper bag at times as well lol... But, I enjoy the outdoors and feel like if I had to I could survive well, depending the surroundings and who I"m with. If I was with a few buddies of mine, and our wives/kids we could thrive. We have been camping together, the guys for nearly 10 years now, about 10 times a year. The past several years with our families, and we most often do not camp at state parks. We go to more remote places, wilderness. Power in numbers and we work well together, our experience would work to our advantage. That and the guns. If I'm Alone with my family? Survive is about it I suppose.
However, I would probably choose the Vault if given the chance. Its not about being a tough guy, being "free" or any of that. It would be arguably a safer and better life for my wife and 2 kids in the vault scenario. For that alone, they win.

I think it's a production render from Fallout 1 or 2, you shoul try Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas!
