Apparently kids in 1995 predicted the internet

Started laughing uncontrollably at this bit

Great gif potential for Sunhi.

How is this "predicting" the Internet? By 1995 the Internet being a big deal was common sense.

It'd be like talking about what smartphones can do in 2009 or something.

Psssh... I was on the Internet before there were pictures, before there was even the "www". We were gopher'n all up in that shit.

Ah yes, the internet circa 1995, the days when AOL ruled, dial tones filled our ears, and we payed for internet use by the hour.

Never come back, you piece of shit era. Never come back.

In 1995 we were streaming Internet porn and downloading music from IRC. Granted it was new but maybe in Montana it was some crazy shit.

Neat video, but pretty much. In 1995, Windows 95 and AOL were insanely popular. Everyone knew about it, the few kids who had it at home were envied, and everyone would run to the local (or school) library to book appointments for online computer time. The topic of every classroom needing at least one Internet-connected computer also frequently came up.

Everything they said in the video was already being predicted in the 1980s.

I got internet in 96. dialup but unlimited, local provider. i for one think the internet was better in those days (1996-2000 or so) before every slack jawed yokel got on it

Apparently OP is young as we had the internet in 95. Sure it wasn't like it is now but it was still the internet.

What? Where did you live? Some sort of nerd utopia? I was never envied.

I seriously doubt they had streaming porn back in 1995. Maybe download. I wonder how many days it took to download a 10 MB clip?

naw, I'm not that young. Of course we had the internet in 1995. But like you say, it wasn't like it is now, not even CLOSE. 1995 was when it really started I would say to take off a bit more. A pivotal moment in the Internet's history if you will. But yes, I remember the internet before that.

But yes, the thread title was not meant to imply the EXISTENCE of the internet was in doubt, merely the shape of it's potential was outlined.

I'm the same age as those kids. In 1995 I saved up all my money for a 2x SCSI tray loaded CD burner ($300 ish) to burn all the music I was downloading from hotwire at a blazing 14.4kbps.

I'm having an existential crisis now, thanks.

Man 90's PSAs were incredible. The music really makes it you know.

Where are they now? Man, what a question.

That girl who says she found a catfood cupcake recipe creeped me out. I'm pretty sure she's killed someone by now.

Telling you not to text at the movies .

Most of those predictions were just saying that the internet would replace already invented concepts like telephones, television, or cookbooks. These weren't unique predictions at the time. The entire video was scripted too.

Um...how are they prophetic when they internet was around like 10-15 years before that? I got on Seflin's Freenet back in 1994, and the very fact that it was a free network offered by the county should tell you I was already late to the party. Dick Tracy was far more prophetic as I think we already have clumsy watch videophones. Those kids are just speaking the obvious. PEACE.

What was porn like back in 1995?

Newsgroups. On my 2400 baud modem it took like 15-20 minutes for a single Playboy scan to come down, and you basically had to hope you caught the right numbers in the series of pics so that you actually got nudity. You know how the first few pics are with them clothed and all. Yes...masturbation had a waiting period. PEACE.

I suppose. It still gave me nostalgia though.
