Cumberbatch looks good at certain angles and with certain hair styles.
I knew when I saw that pic you would reply.I knew before clicking that people would be hating on my boy in here >.<
This kills my suspension of disbelief in movies and TV all the time. Everyone on TV looks like a model. I mean, I get it, but it's dumb.

What does it say about American media that they need British or Australian actors to play 'average' Americans?
I lol'd*reinstalls xcom*
Everyone in the shield was butt ugly apart from the Hispanic girl they brought in. Which they probably did because they realised they were working with some jobbers.
This forehead. You could park two cars on it and still have some room left
Whenever I see this picture (specifically, not Cumberbatch in general), this starts playing in my head.
This is almost certainly the answer.I think it's mainly because of population. American casting directors can be significantly more picky, since they have a larger talent pool to choose from.
American actors just look more manly - like the guy from The Wire:

While British actors...they look weaker, more feminine, like Depp:
Probably, but there's also the fact that UK and US populations actually have a very distinct "look" to them. I can tell whether someone's British or American based purely on looks. It's right more often than not, dunno why.

all attractive British males are actors, a bit like all slim Americans
Stephen Amell - Canadian
Paul Blackthorne - British
Emily Bett Rickards - Canadian
Manu Bennet - New Zealander
John Barrowman - Scottish
From the CW show Arrow, the rest of the main cast do indeed seem to be American, so make of that what you will. (P.S i am behind on Arrow, no spoilers please)
This isn't shopped at all?

This is perfectly highlighted by British soap operas compared to American ones.
American's tend to over value superficial physical beauty compared to Brits, certainly true in media anyway.
But that voice of his brings more girls to the yard than my raggedy ass ever will
I don't know if professional is the right word to use.I'd always felt euro casting relies more on charisma whereas US casting has the means to go for perfection in every facette of a person.
And then even if an US actor is more averagely looking they will press every inch of beauty out of them with perfect hair, make up and dressing for filming and pr. Everything is just so much more professional.
